About Subnautica:
Subnautica is an open world survival game in development by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
Subnautica allows the player to explore an aquatic alien planet by scuba diving and traveling it, while collecting resources and food to survive. It was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014.
The Xbox release was in August 2016.
The player controls in first-person view the lone survivor of a crashed ship on an aquatic planet.
The main objective of the player is to explore the open world environment and survive the dangers of the planet, while also continuing the story.
Subnautica allows the player to collect resources, construct tools, bases, and submersibles, and interact with the planet's wildlife.
Players must keep themselves adequately hydrated and fed, and must also maintain their oxygen supply while traversing underwater.
They discover remnants of the Precursors, an ancient alien species, that used to live on the planet, massive structures and receive mysterious signals by a strange entity. The development team opted to use the Unity engine rather than Spark, the engine used for the company's previous game, Natural Selection 2.
Subnautica producer Hugh Jeremy justified this decision because of the different demands that the game places on the engine, and "because [the team] does not include people working on Spark, it's not appropriate for Subnautica to use Spark.
By using Unity for Subnautica, Spark can continue to develop in certain directions, while Subnautica develops in others.
To use Spark for Subnautica would be to try and square peg a round hole."
Subnautica was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014.
Subnautica was originally planned to be released on Xbox One on April 1, 2016, but was ultimately delayed by another month.
The next game in the Subnautica universe was announced in early 2022, expected to launch in early access about a year later.
Anyone else remember when there was a massive pit nicknamed "The Hellhole" leading directly to the lava zone underneath the aurora wreck? good times.
literally a *hell hole*
I didn't play it at that time but I wish they kept it cause it would be cool to see sea dragons by the aurora after you get the cure
i kinda miss it, i made a base there then got lost
It makes sense lorewise though, since it says sea dragons come up to the surface and chase Reapers down to the lava zone where they get cooked and eaten. Having direct access from the crash zone would make a lot of sense
I hoped it would have been in this version but nope...
i remember hearing about subnautica and trying to remember what the game was and it’s absolutely crazy how the evolution of the game happened on so many levels… and how we’re still playing and talking about it
Have you seen "The Return of the ancients" Mod?, if not it would definitely be worth checking out
@@bober-mz2ys i have but isn’t it not out. cause my general take on it is i love the idea and the mod devs are insane for doing it but my only gripe is leaving it only to youtubers. i respect their decision but my fear is if this mod just randomly doesn’t get finished wel never get to play it. other than that yeah it’s a pretty insane mod, mad respect
It's a gem, just needs tripple A service, subnautica in 5 years is going to be something else.
@@Aci_yt Man you sure are a gigachad
god i remembered when i played it 2 days after it came out. the "hellhole" underneath the Aurora was just pure terror, as it was a connection point between the Reapers that spawned at the back and front, and then to the lava zone.
there's actually about 11 reaper leviathans around the aurora zone
The first actual version of the lava zone was called *inactive lavart zone* and it was just a bunch of lava and rock pillars and a bunch of large circles on the ceiling
You had my curiousity, but now you have my attenton (ps: normal map in below zero would be amazing!)
I remember seeing in one of the old old trailers for Subnautica, maybe when the Aurora explorable wreckage was added, an entrance at the back of the Aurora at one of the Engines (Bottom one on the left side maybe?) where you could go through a tunnel and that was how you got into the engine room.
Yea that was in the game before the interior was expanded Before, it was just hallways and the engines or something
I’m pretty sure it was the left part of the ship’s hull. You can still see it from the inside of the engine room at the bottom but it’s covered by debris and rock.
@@Emars118 yea
I got a massive “wave” of nostalgia watching this
I remember playing the very earliy versions of Subnautica, so this is quite nostalgic to see
This was so cool, I've never looked at the alpha map :D
Aci: "HM YES This smells of _unfinished area_ ."
2:17 Not gonna lie, i had this part of the map in my nightmare and there was ghost leviathan waiting.
I remember a few years back when my brother way playing and his prawn suit fell into that spire nest thing with the weirdly formed spike terrain. He couldn't get out and a ghost leviathan was vibing nearby. Funny times.
You mean the farlands lookin spikes? Pretty sure they weren’t in the game when ghost leviathans were added since that was pretty late in development
Aci, the ruins in the beginning might have had those textures as a placeholder
FINNALY SOMEONE REMEMBERED MY BOI THE JUMPING LEVIATHAN
Your intro scared the hell out of me. That crescendo man! XD
At 10:15 that mushroom tree STILL doesn't have a wreck on it. I usually build my base on that mushroom. The wreck is a little more to the west.
The ‘mini safe shallows’ you found by the Aurora is actually in the complete game now. It’s a sub-biome of the Crash Zone called Crash Zone Mesas. There’s six mesas in total, and a Reaper is often patrolling a sizable chunk between two of them, so I never visit unless I get turned around.
Renamed to crag feild
This reminds me of playing the early open beta builds. I’d always get lost in some barren expanse because there’s no map, and I had to find the Giant Oblivion Spikes(tm) to know I had to go the opposite direction to get home.
I would love to see a map with the hell hole, I never got to use that entrance to the lava zone since I started playing way after they removed it
Unfortunately those builds which have the hell hole are inaccessible, along side most of the builds.
@@foxxyfoxagirl1854 dam it
@@foxxyfoxagirl1854 pirating?
@@orpheus294 1. Wont work 2. Dont pirate.
@@foxxyfoxagirl1854 1.it does 2.pirating in my country isn't exactly illegal, just the police doesn't even care lol
Yo this is sick
But in Subnautica the void looks the same. It just ends at about 2500m and then you can go under the map. Only in Below Zero the Void has an actual ground at 2400m.
Is that so? I remember IGP building on the floor in Subnautica.
@@LordiAwa In creative there is just nothing. Idk about survival though. Maybe hat a mod?
The void had a bottom only for a few versions during early access.
@@Aci_yt ah thanks
@@Aci_yt Incorrect, the void terrain at the bottom was there until the big little update (which was after the game's release)
Good god this brings back memories. Old Subnautica was built differently… literally
Who remembers the giant cavern beneath the front of the aurora? I wish Aci would cover multiple versions including that one in particular!!
Unfortunately those builds are inaccessible at this current time.
Me too !!!
This video is so cool, I instantly clicked on it! Yeah I wish those ruins were still in the game in some way. It would be both very cursed, very fun and cool to see the base game map in bz. I am just starting to think of how weird the starting part would be where robin crashes? Like where should she crash her ship? I need to see this!
Ruins?
10:35 I'm pretty sure that there is a very similar area in the current game. I don't think that it goes that close to the Aurora, but it has some coral material on the walls and brain corals and that. It might be between the kelp forest and the crash zone.
I think in this version there is a huge hole leading to the future lava zone where sea dragons were supposed to catch and drag reapers into the lava zone
Honestly they should have kept that in. It makes so much more sense with the reaper skeletons in the lava zonem
@@Cornchips-om5rf the aurora probably landed on top of the hole
Sadly not, I checked and that part of the map doesn't even exist yet. Only void there
@@marinarasauce6609 yea thats said in the lore im pretty sure, or atleast referenced
@@duck_time i don’t believe it is but it’s a good theory
I've accidentally come across that unfinished Aurora section in the current version. I don't know why, but no amount of reloading or troubleshooting would fix it. The whole Aurora was unexplorable and I couldn't finish that save because no escape rocket.
Honestly, this just reminds me of my first time playing below zero and the whole times i was like "omg LOOK!!! Its *insert cut content here* FULLY REALIZED" Especially with rock punchers.
I am hella excited for the subnautica map in below zero
i first learnt subnautica a bit before the terrain tool was added, back when subnautica didnt have an ending, and the islands where the rescue ship crashes were just a fully rock texture mountain oh yeah i remember the small islands near the Aurora, they had a lot of chest's near or on them i didnt have the game yet so only videos the floating island wasnt known much about so i think i watched when it was beta
never relized that there was a legit way of getting into the jelly caves, I have always used that small offshoot tunnel
5:20 i was somehow able to predict aci saying that it was like the farlands before he even said it, and this is the first time watching the video
I like how the thumbnail has a sandworm on it but aci doesn’t talk about that or the entity gallery
I wanted to find something that makes people think of the alpha for the thumbnail, i think the sand worm does that The entity gallery doesn't work with this, sadly.
There is ruins in the Grand Reef aswell but less difined. It's more like a foundation than buildings
If she could get it so we can dig into the sand and build/form our own tunnels and islands, that would be awesome! I do miss the tunnel at the end of the Aurora, down passed the reaper which leads to the lost river
Damn really cool to see the old alpha map nice video
I’ve been watching you for quite a while by now hope you keep making subnautica vids!
Love your Content Aci really enjoy all of ur vids
Aci NEVER gets old!
It would be fun to see you playing the sub 1 map in bz.
Nice vids keep it up I’ve been watching for 3 years
Below Zero early access also had stuff that was cut like the methane caves, I never saw it because I kept away until it released to avoid spoilers. Would be cool to see that stuff too.
I would love to see this but from like the early episodes of the Markiplier series. Remember that iconic clip of him first coming across the garg? He pulls into the lost river and the giant skull renders in and Mark is like "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD! LOOK AT THIS THING! I'm gonna go in it's mouth."
I am actually binge watching his subnautica series now and saw this like two days ago
@@AIMalek I just finished binging his subnautica, the forest, and fnaf series and all of them are so entertaining.
With the walls the far lands was straight away what I thought
Even having some fun in below zero cause my save file corrupted and restored a beta testers version from 2015 and I get to see all the stuff they took out during beta
I miss the giant black spikes that covered the ground around the early grand reef.
is better for the twisty bridges to be a safe starting biome, good choice for the devs
Damn some of this stuff brings back memories, while I've never played the game myself, I have followed it's development back in the day ever since NS2HD released the first gameplay teaser on his channel back in October 2014.
You should've tried going to the lava zone from the back of the Aurora because as far as i can remember there used to be a big drop from the Aurora to the lava zone but it might've been not in this Alpha version of the map idk.
You mean the “hell hole?” From what I remember it was located near the front.
Trust me i already checked, unfortunately i was not able to find any trace of the lava zone. It was in a bit of a later version if i recall
@@JuniPinPan It was added in I think around March, when the aurora was first implemented. Around that time they started working on Lava Zone assets and they needed a testing ground, and they ended up also adding the hell hole.
1:15 Hey Aci! These were actually meant to be a jumping challenge that the devs later took out because it didn't really work out well.
What do you mean by a jumping challenge?
@@crimblr The player was assumedly meant to climb up that structure and platform across it.
The shallow near the aurora is the creepvine plants
I remember the spike biome behind the ship
Wow this is pretty awesome also i would love to see the original map in bz
I remember the parts of this map lmao, been playing subnautica since it was pre released in steam
Get this man to 200k subs
If I were to give a recommendation, I would suggest making a VOD channel for your Twitch streams as some people (particularly me) may not have time to tune in live on Twitch.
can you get some newer versions like the beta or 1 - 2 updates after the alpha?
Yes to the last bit
Aci! Please make the video on the Subnautica map in Below Zero, this video was really cool and I’d love to see the next one 💜
1:25 i remember that in this place you can make a really hard parkour and get the terraformator for free!
You likely are remembering wrong, as you would have died before reaching there due to radiation, which could not be fixed, and by the time you could repair radiation the island thing was removed.
At 9:35 i swear i saw the garg
the reapers old habitat looked like the safe shallows but deeper that was before the aurora crashed i think
Was the side entrance of the reactor room already on the aurora in the alpha map?
I feel sad bout that lonely plant in the twisty bridge area man, Lonely lil plant ;v;
bro the alpha map had the subnautica version of the farlands
I always wanted to see how the map changed from early versions but i could never do the steam trick to roll back the game to older versions.
I remember all of this
I've been thinking that those walls are like the farlands in Minecraft and then you said it lol
YES
What command did you us for the aurora please?
The ancient mod should create the old sea worm thingy that popped from the ground and make it a creature or make the ice worm swim
You said something about the old Reaper textures. Am I the only one who haven't seen them yet?
I have another idea for a artist draw subnautica creatures video. Maybe you could have them make concepts for creatures to live on the islands.
at one point I remember there being a hole under the aurora and I cant remember what was in it. you should see if that exists
This was added in the Crash site update for the game, around march 2015, so no, its not there.
wonder if that massive hole that used to be in the crash zone/dunes that led to the lava zone is there
Unfortunately not, that was added in the aurora interior update, which was in March of 2015.
Tell us how you/she did it please!!!
Awesome video, think you can do the same to Below zero?
Jumps into a lagoon into a ad
Also does anyone know what the sounds of the walls are? This is the first time I've ever heard of this.
Just a suggestion in case you still want to delve into old subnautica like this, why not try return to the cliffs biome?
I'd like blue cave crawlers it's my favorite color maybe they can make it so we can chose the color on them
Subnautica Acituanbus
back then you had to find the radiation suit ._.
Now I want to see subnautica below zero with the base subnautica map
Huh, I wonder if those ruins were a placeholder for something. Like a dev using the old terraforming tool to mark out a rough idea for a structure as a guide for making the detailed model later. Architect building that got buffeted by the Aurora's crash landing? A degasi base before it got moved to the island?
its a parkour challenge actually!
I always wondered that, because yah it could just be the devs messing around wit the terraforming, but at the same time it just looks too odd. I dunno.
@@foxxyfoxagirl1854 Like i said, its meant to be some sort of ruins challenge : ) Theres actually more buildings throughout the game! Such as in the grand reef, on the big overhang thing, theres 3 or 4 bulidings with different floors and windows. They were sorta meant to be like little "hotels"!! This was also said in one of the dev videos where they were making the game's terrain, incase u were wondering : )
@@JuniPinPan Can you provide a link to said videos? Especially the one with them saying the hotels line?
@@foxxyfoxagirl1854 Yes!! kzhead.info/sun/rcmods-Hlnp3rWg/bejne.html
Why did the alien ruins make me want to play stranded deep? 😭
i would love it if you put the subnautica map in bellow zero, and maybe if you could leave a tutorial because i've been wanting to do that for forever.
There was never a wreak on the main mushroom in Subnautica
for some reason, i always get scared whenever a terrain ''tile'' has not loaded in yet, and theres a big hole. i really dont like that.
I miss sandcastle Island
@10:50 it's in the regular game
was that hole leading to the lava zone at the front of the aroura there? :3
No sadly not, that was added in the Crash Site update of the game.
can you please make the video on the original subnautica map in below zero
huh? just read the description and it says "The next game in the Subnautica universe was announced in early 2022, expected to launch in early access about a year later". is this true??? have i missed out on some large subnautica news?? or is this referring to below zero (except for some reason the year is 2022 even though it was early 2019)?
I made a video on the SN 3 announcement :)
Who all remembers Aci's original name?
Didn't the island not make a noise or something
nice
Igp has a video on how to get your game to the original version make a video on it
He made a video on it in the past.
WHEN TF DID U GET TO 200k I stopped watching you for like 7 days and you’re at 200k already
Today actually :)
