However despite all the growth in the professional scene, one thing has always stuck out to some viewers. And that is the lack of female representation. Though some orgs have attempted to step into the girl gamer world, none have actually got into official Riot Games tournaments. Until Vaevictis eSports. The first all female team to ever be represented in LoL esports and have a chance to qualify for the League of Legends world championship. But things didn't go so well.

You gotta remember the professional players have their entire lives revolving around this game, they put in as much time and effort as professional sports players. Part of the reason I never made it past Bronze II is I just won't put that much effort into the game, I have a life outside of it.

The thing is that league has mostly male players and only a very small amount of those become pro players. So the chance of having a female pro player is also much smaller. So if there are some really good female players out there, they won't be enough to make an all female team. The team at the end really showed a much more realistic approach, having one in the team instead of a whole team.
That's also the issue with hiring based on sex or race quotas where that sex/race make up a much smaller portion of applicants compared to their percentage of the population. Statistically you will have to lower standards in order to actually get enough people to fill the quotas, meanwhile you leave qualified individuals by the wayside.

@@agapon2023 Let me put it this way, if a job is male dominated and women make up say 4% of the applicants to that role. If the goal is to make a 50/50 male to female ratio you are forced to lower standards for the female applicants since the number of women applying to that position are far less. This is the issue with race/sex based hiring quotas, in most cases the percentage of applicants for a position do not line up with what percentage that race/sex makes up in the population. This in turn forces standards for certain groups to be lower and standards for others to be higher. If you want a real world example of this take a look at affirmative action, where the required SAT and ACT scores for Asians where a lot higher and some other races where accepted with far lower scores.

The problem with all girls teams is that they are generally selected due to being girls, while the other teams are selected due to being good. It is a plenty possible for girls to be just as good, but an all girls team is the wrong way to prove it, whereas one making it onto a team normally would actually prove it

An aspect of this story I think alot of people are overlooking here is that the Vae Victis organization was already trying to get out from the League, but were forced to play the season because nobody would buy the slot. I have no idea what these girls thought would happen going into this, or even why the fuck they were still cleared to compete after sacking their entire original team, but I bet the managers were laughing their asses off all the way out the door.

It’s a video game. The only people who won’t take you seriously are gamers, literally no one else cares. You think some high paying company is going to care a single bit if someone sucks at league?
At that time I was playing on a ru/cis server and often met them in the flex queue. They played at the level of upper platinum - medium diamond (of ru server, of course, which in itself is one of the weakest). Their lcl opponents were euw challengers with years of experience in the pro scene.

AND the organization had one female player who was a Diamond 1, but they kept her on the bench and never let her play because she didn't look good according to the managers of the organization. 1:11 I'd like to debate this. I don't think it's simply because of that. I myself personally am friends with an ex-Pro that left shortly after going pro in my country because of the insane misogyny she experienced while playing for her team. She decided she didn't want to continue in an environment like that so 1 year later she retired. She still gets offers but she's moving on to a different career choice. If I'm not mistaken there was another European player that left her team due to the same reason A lot of female players that have pro potential often don't go for it because of their personal experiences. Maybe one day as communities within the professional scene gets healthier, we'll get the opportunity to see a female Faker.

The issue with female teams/women playing professionally in esports is that they are separated early on in the semi-pro scene and never play against the guys who get all the funding, sponsors, training, etc. It's not that they don't have the ability, they just can't compete because they don't get the same training or experience. It's the same thing with IRL sports. It's really unfortunate.

It's quite funny how things change in such a short period of time. A recent "women's" League of Legends tournament had like one woman in it, the rest all being guys.
Its funny they got the world record for the fastest team to lose rather than the other team getting the record for the fastest to win in a professional game 😂
And this just shows why identity hiring is a terrible policy. Hire women who are capable of matching up to the competition. Don't just hire women.
The problem is their motivations. They didnt decide "lets hire women" and choose the best ones. They don't even care about hiring women, they cared about hiring marketable pretty faces.

If I'm remembering my figures since I last looked, about 1% of all players are top tier in LoL. How many of that 1% are women? How many of them are willing to give up their whole lives to become LCL players? What if there aren't even 5 women players at that same level who are willing to do that? Well since you decided to hire women, you have to accept less skilled women to fill the same role and voila, same outcome. Of course, they accepted less skilled and PRETTY women on purpose, but the same disaster would happen if you negate a large % of the pool of hires you are willing to hire "for identity."

@@2jzupra Half wrong. There are few to no female players of the skill level required. I know a few ladies who love LoL, and are pretty good, but even then they don't have the skill for this tier of play. Plus they don't care to have that level of skill, that level of passion lies in other things.
@@2jzupra Perhaps in physical sports sure because there are marked differences in biology that make men who train for it stronger than women who do, but this is eSports. There shouldn't be anything stopping a woman from being able to play at the same level as a man in the leagues as it's more about mental prowess, accuracy and reaction times.

@@riri0902 There could be a full female team theoretically, but you'd have to wait for at least one pro female player to pop up in each role, probably in different teams, and them buy all of their contracts and toss them in the same team. Otherwise it's just a marketing stunt.

@Willy Camoy If you force female teams into pro league, and they all get brutally trashed, you are not going to get many women to play. They are going to reason that they are way to hard for them and move onto other games. There are no women playing Paradox games for example.
You missed the point of the team. They tried to sell their players, they didn't manage. So as a last resort, they went full on advertisement mode. Found some girls who at least played the game, and then made revenue just by exposure. It was a success, went a lot better than the previous roster. The goal for a team is to make money.
I find this team inspiring. Normally when I see a League team I feel like there’s no way I could do that but when I see them I think “I could do that.”

And the skill level of women is simply not as high as men, which is why the get trounced in video games and chess.

As of 2022, there were over 2,000 male grandmasters in chess, but only 40 women. And even then, their grandmaster title comes from playing other women, because they don't play ranked games against men.
