In this video I make a cone hardy tool for the anvil. It can be used in many projects where you bend or tweak a round shape. The anvil horn is hardly ever completely round so this is a good complement. It also makes it easy to see what you are doing since it is upright, perpendicular to the anvil face.

Wonderful to see your son learning the art of blacksmithing. Now you have a pair of left-handed and right-handed hooks!!
Thanks!
Yeah great work by Torbsön, that's a piece I'd be proud of at any age!
@@pjamestx It reminds me of fixing our car with my dad when i was his age :) Now i'm fixing WAAAY bigger machines than a car. It's really wonderful to learn things with dad :)
But he will need his own sets of tongs I guess.
Very seldom do i repost on a video but i was really touched by seeing you teach your son to blacksmith. I am beginning to teach my granddaughter she is 7 and she truly loves to use the tools and its so rewarding to see her so happy just doing what pap does. Thanks for passing your love onto your son it really is a great thing. Takecare and keep you all safe.
Nice and very good
I have spent 35 years as a mechanical fitter which has been a satisfying career, however I have always wished that I had become a blacksmith. Too late for me now but I can still take pleasure and admire the excellent work you and others do. Function and form beautiful combined.
It's never too late :)
Get a small propane furnace, two-three hammers, a handful of files and use a piece of train rail as your first anvil. With that alone you can craft all sorts of useful and/or beautiful little knickknacks. My buddy made himself a Thor's Hammer neckless with nothing but a small blowtorch, an ordinary hammer and a Dremmel tool. The "bar stock" was a random 4" nail and the anvil was a granite cobblestone.
I love your channel and it was so nice to see your son learning from dad. I owned a construction business and a always tried to have my sons work with me as often as possible. Passing down skills and knowledge to your children is part of a fathers job. Thanks!
Hubby had his smithy shop 50 yrs ago,,,,,really got close to tears during this video,,,thanks!!!!!!!!
Sweet, thank you!
You are from USA

Thank you very much for the mention. The video was outstanding as always
Thanks John! My pleasure
I subbed!
you two should collab
@@Fairstarter How they can collab? Thruh the ocean?
How cool is that John! What a great shoutout! You deserve it!
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22: 6). It's cool to see dad and son working together.
Aka brainwashing
✝️
Exactly 👍❤️
Love your channel. There is nothing better than seeing a father instruct a son. It is a very deep feeling that everyone identifies with. Please keep it up!
ı agree. this comment is my thoughts.
What a Fantastic Dad
In a perfect world that would be true... His son is quite lucky to have such a good father.
Indeed. :-)
Nice sar
Everytime i see a video like this one, where you get your kids involved in helping you out. It warms my heart. I missed out on alot of this kinda thing growing up...I would have loved to have my Dad do these things with me. Teaching me and giving me experiance and support. You are a great man.
I have grown to appreciate your craftsmanship and was pleased watching John Switzer demonstrating his craft. I have a love for lathes - maybe I should have become a blacksmith 30 years ago instead being 'ship's doctor'; since retired. ...Torbjörn, I love your videos so much and now I am encouraging my apprentice daughter and BFF friend to learn their craft in blacksmithing. I am appreciative of your teaching your son. ..Thank you, for all of this. Many blessings to you ~Wendi
Thanks!
I look forward to the debut of your apprentice's KZhead channel. Nice work by you both.
Nice sar
What a great video no stupid music you have a great talent & so nice to see father & son working together just wished more fathers would have time & play with their children respect to you sir Regards Steve Crazy UK London
From the tool making to the promo for John at Black Bear to making hooks with your son, this is now my favorite video from you. amazing, thanks for sharing.
Good luck
With all the insanity out there with the virus, hate and violence. It's so nice to just sit and see something beautifully made.
Like memories! ♥️
Not seen this often.. a kitchen oven that goes to 300 °C. Very nice video and forged products!
Just like a chip off the old block, the young man did a fine job 👍. Keep up the good work and God bless 🙏
Fantastic video. You are doing great teaching your son the the joy of blacksmithing.
I just love the videos you put out on a regular basis, but today's was special. Teaching your son the artform with your skill made my day. In today's crazy world you sir show hope for the next generation. Excellent work by your son too!
Very kind, thank you!
Father son working together is awesome !!! Best part of the video.
A very good job on that cone. The Father and Son shop time at the end was great !
It was really good to see you assisting your son learning a tradecraft, I hope you both have many more years together playing with metal and flame.
I think the scene you stamped with your son is very special. You can feel the love between a father and his son while watching :)
Very beautiful cone and hooks. And its very nice that your son is smithing with you. Have a nice day and stay in home&stay safe
Thank you many, many times for teaching your son a dying art. Too many do not take an interest in their children's future. I applaud your efforts, your patience, and your obvious love. You are a great parent.
The sound that the power hammer makes is music to my ears!
The best forging channel ever on youtube.. with classic background feel like old times👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks!
Again a very simple but artistic hook for a beginner, thanks very much for the video..you are a very humble and modest human .
Love the fact you are teaching your son this vanishing skill. Young people are our future and we need more of them that can work with there HANDS and not just there thumbs.
excellent! What a wonderful thing to watch a man teach his son a craft to pass down...now will he follow in dads footsteps? Only time will tell. We allow them to be children first yet prepare them fo this big-ole-mean-world. Bless u all. Stay well.
Thank you, yes we will see...
The amount of care and attention to detail that you put into making even relatively simple tools is just inspiring. And I loved watching your son have a go at making one of those hooks also!
Thank you very much!
Nice video. The best example you can give to your son is to learn and to work. Regards from Argentina
Another awesome video it was great to see you teaching your son, he is learning from a fine man and craftsman, he too will have the same skills as you do someday, also noticed that he is left handed like me, I had a math teacher tell me one day that many great men were left handed.
What a heartwarming video in multiple ways: shout-out to collegue John Switzer and seeing father and son working together has made me smile a couple of times; not only the tool is graceful as ever, so are you Thorbjörn☺️
What a wonderful surprise seeing how your son is so hands on now. He's got the making of becoming a great blacksmith. Keep up the good work, young man.
Its good that you are patient with your son . he is young and so many younglings want nothing more than to play computer games . Smithing is a time honored tradition and will never die.
Looking at that cone hardy I think I would introduce a "No sitting on the anvil!"-rule in my workshop.... Great video and art as always - thank you for sharing!
Ha ha... thanks!
It’s great to see you teaching your son, especially in a kind and encouraging manner.
It is allways a treat seeing you work, and making tools to make new things is sooo satisfyeing! Good to see the young one working and helping out, det ska böjjas i tid det som krokigt ska bli!
He he, japp och tack!
Like father like son. Awesome dude!! Good for you and your legacy.
Ah dude. So much to love in one video. First of all it's always wonderful for me to watch a blacksmith make blacksmith tools, so very satisfying. Then, what an awesome shoutout to Jon Switzer and Black Bear Forge, that makes me so happy, he's just marvellous. Then to see your young chap doing such a good job too is profoundly pleasing. When I woke up this morning, I had to face a whole bunch of work I wasn't very happy about doing, but I checked in on KZhead, and saw, "Aha! A new Torbjörn video. Something to look forward to when I'm done." What a reward. Tack så mycket.
Great, thank you so much Ross!
Great job, congratulations. I remember when I was passing the forge as a child when I was going to school. A beautiful brick building from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with a roof for horses waiting to be shoed. . It is true that back then (in the 1980s) the forge was hardly working anymore, but sometimes the door was open and seeing the interior and equipment it excited my imagination. When watching your films, I sometimes come back to those memories. Best regards from Poland.
Thanks, sounds nice!
It's really comforting to watch parents showing their children how to do things so they can learn hiw to do things in a safe way
It is very good that you spend time with your son and to also teach him. Good job
*It is good to see that your son naturally grips the hammer without his forefinger going forward on the shank, and with his thumb wrapped around and under the shank handle. He will always have far better control that way and more strength in his hammer blows using the tools that way, as you know, Torbjörn. Good for him. He is doing really well even though the diameter is presently a bit big for him, until he developed more arm strength which he will grow into soon. Your sense of timing for him is very wise. By matching his hand size and grip/arm strength to this tutorial experimentation would/could have been troublesome and discouraging a month ago, or whenever it was last that I saw his hand use. You are a good teacher, as I have always said.*
Thanks!
Great to see passing along the trades to the younger generation. This fills my heart with hope for the future! The hook was the first thing I learned to forge too and was the first thing I taught my two sons to forge.
Great, thank you!
I have to proud of your son! He is very skillful in fogging! Thank you for the video. It is so cute 🤩!
Thank you!
Good luck
Hello another great video what a pleasure to see your son learn blacksmithing well done and see you soon
good to see the son is starting to work metal as well.. Cheers Torbjörn
My spirit has been lifted by this wholesome video. A ray of optimism in a stressful time. Thank you sincerely
HA: There's the new little giant! It was a great fun for me to see you working with your son - thank you very much for this very nice vid! :-) (and a little bit of breathing-sound of your power hammer...)
There's nothing better than to have fun with your son doing the loved work
Awesome to see Your Son taking such an interest. I'm hoping to see the same of my son when He is old enough to start. He should be born around my birthday. 😁
Wonderful to see you pass this on to your son. Love to see you give a nod to John at Blackbear forge he is awesome!
I am very happy because a young blacksmith was added to the Swedish blacksmiths Your clips and works are very beautiful Good luck
I really respect getting your son involved in a skill that you can bond over and a money making skill at that.
Bravo to you both blacksmiths ! There are few things more rewarding for any father, than watching another man working side by side with his son(s) : it gladdens the cockles of anyone's heart. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Very nice to see the craft being passed down to your son!
Surely one of the best channels on KZhead. Thanks again.
You make forging Lok so easy 💪 Follower from algeria 🇩🇿
Another professional piece of art my friend, and even more awesome to watch is your son working his magic with his father. You have well behaved children from what ive seen. A true family man.
Good luck
THE BOY IS GOOD, GIVE HIM ALL THE TIME HE WANTS. BEST WISHES, RICHARD.
Wow you have no idea how much better the day gets when I come home from the office (I am an electrical engineer and busy has been slow lately thanks to the epidemic) and this hero has a new piece of content that is fantastic as usual. Thank you for making a sour day good again! I wish good health and all the best to you and your family!
Thank you!!

Thank you very much for your work, my father is a blacksmith and I am an Audiovisual Communicator, now that I live in another city, watching your videos will help me remember how I supported him as a child.
Not only beautiful work, but the best part is watching your son learn a wonderful skill and trade. Also your patience with him. Oh how we need more of this!!!!
Even in the "demo" hook piece, you went for beauty, symmetry, perfection. Just so wonderful, Torbjorn! Also lovely to see the kid learning from you. Half expected you also to whip out a set of new blades you forged on your own for the grass cutter.
Great craftmanship on display, even by your son. Thank you for the video, always a pleasure to watch 👍
Makes me smile seeing your son make things around the shop, glad the art is getting passed on, and by a great teacher none the less!
Terrific video, I'm surprised that you haven't made a swage to make the cone. My father started me in woodworking by having me sit on the boards he was hand sawing. Nothing better than helping your parents as a small child.
I was contemplating making a taper die for the hammer, but decided to skip that for this one.
Very brave of you to finally reveal who does all the intricate and difficult work behind the scenes ;) ... pretty sure that if I were him, i would also ask you to do all the heavy work... Lovely tool, for some reason i find these even more interesting then making an item for end use... There is just something about making your own tools to make things, that really does it for me. Somewhat like pie I guess. So tnx for sharing ^^
you're a great father. he'll remember these moments and skills forever. your son may benefit from hand exercises, for better grip and form. although if he's always helping you he'll get there eventually!
Great to see a father with patience to teach his son. Well done!/
Kind Sir, You are an terrific smith and an excellent example of a father. You take your time to perfect your craft and you also take the time to perfect your children. You sir, are a class act in my book. This was a great video and I learned so much more than how to make a tool or some hooks. God Bless you, please keep doing what your are doing.
Thank you!
2 video in week it's amzing⚒🖤
Ok, the dad teaching his kid the ropes is cool. But the kids wanting to learn this trade is even better!! So wholesome!
This is so nice to see a young boy learning a trade, don't see it too much anymore these days
Watching your vids is only relaxing , no music , no banter , just calm sounds of the hammer , tools , machines and your great demeanor in how you put it together .
Nice to see the shout out to Black Bear Forge. His is a great channel as well.
Молодцы хорошая приспособа, я думаю сын тоже заинтересовался этим делом, а значит помощник растёт отцу серьёзный.
It's really cool to see your son learn your job :)
Great to see kids getting involved. Mine are starting to show interest in helping me in the shop. I’m amazed how small the robotic mowers blades are. I’ve never looked at one specifically. Great work as usual.
Bravo to your son carrying on in his father's talented footsteps!
A left-handed son with a lot of genius.
Trampo fino amigo
You should start a series called Master Class with Torbjorn Ahman. :) Your videos are always a pleasure to watch !
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and love that you are helping your son learn to do some blacksmithing as well.
18:38 He's a Lefty...artistic brain. He'll make a fine craftsman. I say that because I noticed an overwhelming amount of talented cabinet makers were left handed in my little world of Midwest USA. Anecdotal, but scientifically relevant.
Cool!
thats are my first thoughts too! im lefthanded too and this whole video reminds me so much of my own childhood with my dad! every thing starts right here :) and later on my training as a blacksmith. sorry for my bad englisch
Same here.
Can't really disagree with your comments but just one small point, something cannot be both anecdotal and scientific.
@@evanpenny348 it's just one man's story, but it seems to have merit, scientifically. -✌🏼
Deine Sohn ist "linksmann" ..Genius!!! . Gute Arbeit
What a great kid ! Well done for teaching the apprentice.
your son's work was very good, congratulations on passing on your teachings to him, great example, congratulations from Caetanópolis-mg, Brazil
Молодец, отличная работа. Радует, что появился помощник, очень правильный подход!
Like all your programs, this one was great.....Thank you very much
My two favorite blacksmiths in the same video... awesome!
Watching you teach your son is amazing. I always enjoy your videos, and I’ve never picked up a hammer. You’re truly a craftsman, and create wonderful videos. Thank you!
The hammering better music to my ears than any background track.
Oh wow! The shout out was amazing! I really like Black Bear Forge, it's really nice to see you mention him.
You know, you’re the cool dad. That is so commendable, our children need those skills.
That,s yuseful time for your son,for us all ,because so we have a good exemple for new generation in this job.All the best for your golden team!!
I just witness a great man and his son, passing a dying skill sadly for man used to be dependent on machines nowadays. Keep it up more powers to both of you.
Great to see father and son in the shop making things together. I'm sure that one day he'll carry on that mark you put on your work. Lessons from a Master Blacksmith, very lucky!! Thanks for the great variety of content! Your work is always a pleasure to watch!
Good luck sar
Nice to see you teach your son the blacksmithing skills. Don't let that knowledge and craft die. Keep teaching him all you know. Nicely done!
_I love that initial shot of the rusty piece of stock because I imagine the wonderful sculpture buried inside of it!_
