  • They missed a massive opportunity there. Instead of Seven saying "Will you help us?" She should have said " Will you COMPLY?"

    • @@PassportToPimlico Doctor Who's production budget especially pre-Whittaker era was a great deal smaller than what the current Paramount conglomerate can accomplish. But if they wanted to save some money for some reason I would rather see a old Star Trek staple of a "ship in a bottle" episode. But that is for a series that's low on funds but rich in ideas like TNG's "Drumhead", unfortunately STD/STP is coming from a low in ideas rich in funds type model.

  • Not a shock, she would have all picards knowledge from when he was assimilated. He knew of Q well before his assimilation so there is no reason she wouldn’t know of Q. We also knew the Borg would know of Q ever since Q flung the Enterprise-D to that cube. Guinan's people knew of Q and we also at that point found out her people were assimilated by the Borg.

In her last appearance on the Rookie she looked worryingly unwell, and Nathan Fillion had several sadly somber micro-expressions that didn’t completely fit the scene. To me it’s kinda a mistake basing the whole series around a single character and it’s actor especially when they’re in their 80’s. It’s ironic since “Captain Picard” is my favourite character besides Worf from TNG but it’s quite clear that Patrick Stewart just doesn’t have the vigour needed at least for the main character role that he is playing. My guess is the Queen was so upset by having her memories stolen she intended to lure her in to her network because she sees her as a threat but Jurati is forced to assimilate the queen and remain in this timeline to ensure the loop occurs by connecting universes. Plus showrunners mentioned in S3 of Picard there's going to be more DS9 stuff. Guinan being in the alt timeline makes sense since it's only a few hundred years since we saw her there with Mark Twain. How they'll explain the aging might be tricky, or at least, they'll have to explain why she took the decision to appear more aged (she says in the first episode El-Aurians can choose) before the TNG events rather than later. I like the Jurati theory though, it makes total sense given they hide the identity of the BQ and she literally counters everything they do minus the self destruct.

"that's the politics of your generation" Is it really? And what generation is that? I cannot imagine Q would be to pleased knowing Guinan is still around and in contact with Picard. Then again Q was not able to detect Guinan until she chose to reveal herself in Q Who. Guinan can also detect alterations to the timeline and alternating paths in individuals the same as the queen. This is probably something the Borg gained by the assimilation of the El'Aurian's. I wonder if we will be getting the Guinan vs Q fight that we never got in Q Who?

    @TwinFlyDSW@TwinFlyDSW2 жыл бұрын
    • I'm thinking the Watcher is Guinan as well, because I don't think they'd bring her back just for one brief chat with Picard. She has her own history to carry with the Borg, too, to say nothing of Q (I can't imagine them NOT crossing paths being in the cards). That said, the Borg just seem to be really good with time travel, but they've probably assimilated many races interested in it. Guinan's senses were not universal to her species (if the El-Aurian on DS9 is any indication), seemingly just those who were caught in the Nexus ribbon and beamed back. When Guinan sensed things, she knew they weren't right, such as knowing something's wrong when the Enterprise-C changes the timeline in TNG but she can't say what's wrong. She knows Tasha should be dead, can't say how it happened, only that it was meaningless. The Queen pinpoints the reason for the time change down to the date, year, and location in a second! I think this actress is great for the role. It's hard to upstage Alice Krige in the part, but I'm impressed at how she captures the eerie quality.

    @deepblueskyK@deepblueskyK2 жыл бұрын

    • It's not canon, but the reason Q introduced the borg to humanity was likely not to test humanity but to deter the borg from being a threat to the Q. Distract them, since the Q clearly fear the borg. Though the borg also were set upon gianan's people, and she and the Q are enemies, so the borg likely are aware of the Q in some form and often sent to eliminate the continiums enemies... Though should lazy writing prevail, the borg were the first species the Q revealed themselves to, and the borg seeks to master the universe like them and the borg's scattered memories of it's inception is due to the Q trying to destroy the borg time and time again... that or something even dumber, there is no writing talent at CBS anymore.

      @coldfusionwaffles@coldfusionwaffles2 жыл бұрын
    • @@EMHMarkIX This doesn't necessarily mean that the Borg could pose any threat to the Continuum whatsoever. I highly doubt that. Please take a closer look at the 'extended' Kardashev scale (Wikipedia, etc.) that theoretically classifies the stage of development of indivudual civilizations: The Borg appear to be a type II+ civilization whereas the Q Continuum appears to greatly exceed type IV - arguably the Q are a type V civilization. They are simply off limits for the Borg. Q's moralizing lecture could mean something else. Maybe even the Continuum has some kind of 'prime directive / moral code of conduct' and doesn't want to provoke the Borg, because doing so could cause the Collective to seriously harm lesser races by accident. In a figural sense, it's like sticking a stick into a bee hive - with unforeseeable consequences for the 'local environment'. Q can't play havoc with the universe / torment lesser beings as they please. Individual Q were severely punished for such misbehavior by the Continuum, e.g. Q himself in STTNG: 'Déjà Q' and his son in STVOY: 'Q2'.

It's pretty clear that the Borg Queen (Stargazer) could have taken everybody on that bridge out prior to the self destruct order. Instead of being open to the possibilities and potential peace, Starfleet/Humans engaged in an act of aggression. At the very last moment, when it was clear Picard wasn't going to change his mind, Q pulled him out and challenged him on facing his fear (that fear being what lead him to the act of aggression). Interestingly, Q refers to them being in the mirror universe as "penance". That being any act or a set of actions done out of repentance for sins committed. In other words, he's taken them from a situation where they were given the opportunity to trust the Borg and head towards peace (which they failed to do and deviated from the principles of Starfleet) and forced them into a situation where they have to work together with the Borg to achieve their goals (Borg Queen gets her collective again/Starfleet comes back into existence).

    • Very Interesting, good analysis of what's going on. A small point of contention, and a technicality: It's been made pretty clear that this reality is the prime universe, changed along the timeline. There is a very specific Mirror Universe, and other Universes in Star Trek, but it's pretty clear so far that this is decidedly not the Mirror universe, the mirror universe would have it's own Picard (barring a transport accident that could swap the two Picards, but still...) If they were in the mirror universe there would be a Terran Empire, not a perverted Star Fleet. Getting back to the Prime Timeline would be a different procedure than time travel, and if they changed the Mirror universes timeline it would have a paradoxical effect on previous mirror universe episodes
