"This report is from a witness. I was there at Salto Angel, and I can say nobody saw the entire jump. Considering the trauma Jean-Marc experienced (he died from wounds in his legs and the loss of a lot of blood) I can tell you he hit the wall, for sure. Jean-Marc is jumping a very small canopy, a skydiving reserve canopy with a attachment point, called the Vega 180. The canopy is packed in a deployment bag. Speculation is he had severe line twists after opening, hit the wall, and then experienced a hard out of control landing in the trees. Previous to Jean-Marc's leap another jumper, named Catherine, had jumped and also hit the wall. The helicopter (there to ferry jumpers up to the top) mistook Jean-Marc's waves for help as a sign he was all right and went off to rescue Catherine. When it returned Jean-Marc is dead. Jean-Marc was a modern day adventurer who excelled at many disciplines. In 1988, he is the first to Parapente (Paraglide) from the summit of Mt. Everest." (BLINC MAGAZINE)

On 16 February 1990, while being filmed by a TV crew for the French programme Ushuaïa, le magazine de l'extrême, Boivin made a c. 1,000 m (3,300 ft) BASE jump down Angel Falls in Venezuela, the highest waterfall in the world. This was the first jump from the highest point of the falls.[12] The following day he decided to repeat the jump. Just before he leapt off, a woman named "Catherine"[18] jumped and was injured at the foot of the falls. Boivin decided to make his jump immediately afterwards, carrying help for the injured woman. According to one account, on his descent he hit a tree and was seriously injured with multiple fractures.[3] He told the helicopter team that came to rescue him to attend to the injured woman first. Another account, by a witness, maintains that Boivin hit the cliff, landed in the tree-tops, and that the helicopter team thought that his waving was a sign that he was not injured, rather than an attempt to summon help.[18] Both accounts agree that when the team returned for him, he had died from internal injuries and blood loss.[3][19]

This document is a short version of jumps filmed in 16mm at 200 frames per seconds. This is the real length of what happenned. The jumper is a woman with a good skill in skydiving and BASE jump. When she opened her canopy she turned to look at the opening, therefore her parachute made a half turn during the opening and the canopy was facing the wall instead of the valley. So she hited badly the wall. On the first hit she broke her right feet, ankle and pelvis.

The vast majority of wingsuit fatalities are BASE jumps from cliffs, like this one- over 90%. Wingsuit flying is not inherently dangerous- like most extreme sports it’s the sudden unanticipated stops or interruptions that usually cause all of the painful problems… or exterminations. If you stick to blue sky, it’s really no more dangerous than standard parachuting.

How can this be called a accident? I mean you are jumping off a cliff and hoping everything works like it should. It's something I'll never understand, but I have respect for the courage and dedication these people have.
If you stick to blue sky, it’s really no more dangerous than standard parachuting.
lol @ someone jumping off a cliff and getting exactly what they deserve. "surprised pikachu face"
I do not have respect for people who treat the gift of life as something that can easily be replaced. Doing this for fun or an adrenaline rush is foolish.
ac·ci·dent /ˈaksədnt/ noun 1. an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.

So true. My son was a crazy egotistical rock climber. I was so afraid he was going to kill himself. Thankfully, he suffered a frightening fall that scared him into sensibility. My sons didn’t tell me about the fall, I had to stumble onto it on KZhead. That's one reason, the other being on an undesired heading while opening. The same reason why helicopters stay away from cliff walls is the turbulence created by the sheer rock face. (I'm a pilot).
