VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Shannon and her pup Gracie have been living in a Ram Promaster 3500 extended for over six months. She's a design and build specialist for a van building company, and it shows in her detailed layout! Her colorful kitchen sports a convection stovetop, a 12-volt Isotherm fridge, and a Birchwood butcher block surrounding a farmhouse-style sink. When Shannon was composing her tiny home in a 3D program, she incorporated an elevator bed that can rise and fall and a specialty closet for her skis and sporting equipment.
There are 600 amp-hour lithium batteries and 620 watts of mounted solar. The back of the van has three perfectly placed doors that open to store various items, from the electrical and outdoor shower to spare water and laundry. There's a hidden table that can pull out where she spends many meals and evenings enjoying her new backyard of the moment.

    • What did the Eurolift bed lift cost and where did she get it? It is made by the same people that make the a Happijak but they told me that it is almost impossible to become an OEM with them because they have very high minimum orders commitment. That means they’re going to be so few vendors price will be astronomical. They even discouraged me from wanting one saying it’s only used in multi million dollar motor coaches in weird locations which is BS about the weird locations. Those double pane acrylic windows in the back also cost a pretty penny. She spent a fortune on this conversion but I guess that’s what interior designers do.

    • @@joshn2342323 Honestly, living in a van is about 100x more stressful. Seriously. The angst of figuring out where to sleep each night. the stress of breaking down and not only your vehicle but also your home towed for repairs that can take days/weeks. The stress of living in a depreciating asset that will be worth 1/2 of what you paid for it. The stress of not having a central place to call your own. Don't get me wrong, for a vacation they simply rock. but full time living in a van is actually pretty sucky. They all have zero insulation and you need to run a generator 24/7 to keep cool and the heater to keep warm. BTDT. Oh, and it is usually more expensive than living in a sticks and bricks home or apartment !

  • One of the best-designed vans I've seen. Exactly how I would have it, a roomy place to take a shower, and sitting area behind that. I think a lone female needs two things if she is going to do vanlife, a bathroom so she doesn't have to leave the van at night, and a way to get to the cab quickly without leaving the van, and being able to "relocate" or leave the area as quickly as possible. If I had a van to design into a living space, I'd definitely take it to you.

It checks the boxes where most van builds compromise on but I do not really want to: 1. shower + toilet 2. good size sleeping area 3. comfy living, dining, entertainment area 4. ventilation/airconditioning options 5. working kitchen Bonuses 1. outdoor table options 2. those windows are a good case for getting your build done by pros 3. rice cooker + steamer is awesome (and uncooked rice is easy to keep and won't spoil right for a while) - with the right recipes, you won't need a stove for many meals

Especially this one with 40 gallons of water and 600ah of batteries. That's a lot of weight right over or behind the rear axle transferring even more weight off of the front drive wheels where it's needed for traction.

    • There are numerous variants of positive locking latches. Amazon is an easy source, and In general, van builders looking for ideas could do worse than to look at the marine industry - the marine stuff all costs a fortune, but there are usually cheap knockoffs of passable quality to be had. Marine stuff is built to withstand bumping and rocking, so in that sense there's a lot of commonality with van builds.

  • Great video full of wonderful ideas. Been trying to embark on a nomadic lifestyle but I am still wedded to my shop and the tools I have collected over my lifetime since my first love is building things, but the wanderlust is getting stronger. It's one of those 'If not now, when? situations. Thanks for the video.
