  • In Norway, we pile adults and kids into a truck with sleds, then get driven to the top of a huge hill, the driver drives back down and makes sure no cars head up and we sled down, it takes about 5-8 minutes. Then up again and for as long as we are not too wet or cold, we keep going on slide mattresses and sleds. The most fun ever! Thank you to our driver! ❤

    • So true. My mother took my sister and me (from the UK) on a skiing holiday in Austria, actually very close to where Philipe and Anna were, on the border of Austria and Italy, when I was seven years old in 1966. I’ve never forgotten it and it started a love of travel which eventually directed me into a career that took me around the world. I now live in south eastern France where I can see the Alpes from my kitchen window and I still often think about that first holiday up there in the snow.

    • Same here. My parents would go home once per year and sometimes two traveling from Indonesia, through Europe, and back to the mid-west USA. It was easier to go across the Pacific, but less eventful (stopping in Japan one time & Hawaii) ... but going through Europe even at 12 and 13 & 14 I realized I was so lucky. Got bored in Greece once and stayed in the hotel to babysit my younger brother ... but more often than not tagged along for all the sightseeing. @@paulakershaw5452

  • As half French and half German myself, I just understand the phrase "we can Eislaufen" too well :D My siblings and I only speak a mix of both languages, sometimes throwing some English in there because it just helps putting our point across! Teaching your daughters three languages is the best thing you can do! It has helped me so much in my life and makes learning new languages easier as our brains are just wired differently ;) I now live in Munich and the bavarian/austrian/south tirol cuisine is just one of the best after a good hike!!! • Memories like this stick with you all your life! 62 years ago my dad made me a sledge, necessary because we had one of the worst winters of the 20th century, the winter of 62/63. Our house was snowed up and the drifts were level with my bedroom window. So dad spent all day on my sledge, he finished and said " come on" . He jumped over the wall into the field, and I followed him, but, because my legs were smaller I didn't jump as far and landed in the centre of a roll of barbed wire. I was covered in cuts, needless to say I didn't go sledging that night.😂

It's an old abandoned mining claim and the cabin has long ago fallen to pieces ...but the memories of Platoro Reservoir and Lily Pond are still with me. We could only go in the summer, since the state doesn't plow up that far off the beaten track. But we went skiing at other places near Colorado Springs where my dad was born. His high school had skiing as a winter sport!

My dad spoke Spanish to me when I was a child even though it was a second language for him. We have a German/Dutch last name ... no one can decide. Our known ancestors came from Rotterdam from one branch of the family and from Ireland and France from other branches.... so I feel like I have a connection to all these places in Europe.

  • Twice in the 1970's I was able to go w/ my Ambassador Fellowship singles group of 4th Presbyterian Chruch in Bethesda, MD on a ski trip to Austria. We went to Mittersill and stayed at Schloss Mittersill where we skied Pass Thurn (really good) and Kitzbuhel (where the people went to be seen). We even rented the Schloss van to travel to ski Kaprun glacier. What fun. Then we would go to St. Anton in the Arlbergs. Those were trips of a lifetime, although Colorado (where a brother lived) had sometimes better snow as it was colder.

  • I cannot thank you enough for your videos! They bring me so much pleasure! And you went back to the same place of my favorite video of all time for me when you went hiking in the Alps. I’ll remind you. I said it was the best video I’ve seen on you tube. Anna had to climb straight up the ladder on the hike. Anyway, thank you again- I enjoyed it so much!❤ I enjoy your family so much. Thanks from a single, no children ER nurse in WV / USA

  • I grew up in snow country like this in the north highlands of Scotland, it was amazing. All my winter memories were in the dark given the few hours of daylight we had each winter. In the summer we had almost no dark nights either. We used to dig trenches from one house to the other and mum would climb out of the window to shovel snow from the door ! We had no central heating, not much insulation, simple army blankets with a hot water bootle and one small fire where mum warmed up our clothes before we went off to school, after a big plate of porridge of course ! We sledded gloveless well into the night, it was a great childhood, I pity young kids today. Wonderful memories you are making ! xoxoxo
