Leon wanted this bad. He was very focussed and sharp throughout the fight.
He low-key needed the win as well because had he lost especially a decisive one his head shot win would have been written off as a fluke. This win removes all doubt and vindicates the claim that Leon (as was all fighters at the event other than Usman) was compromised from the high-altitude in Utah.
I remember sitting in the hospital waiting room listening to the leon interview a few years back on areil helwani show. Feels good to see him at the top where he belongs.

What baffles me most that NOBODY SEEMS TO MENTION... is how can they spring a new opponent on you at the last second like that? You've had no time to prepare for that opponent! Colby had time to prepare as he knew he'd be facing one of them, whereas Leon or Kamaru didn't have time to prepare for Colby.

Nah, Leon has called out Colby for years and Covington put him aside. Now Colby is begging to fight him. Out of the top 5 of who deserves a title shot, Colby is at the bottom of the list. First being Belal, Khamzat, and Burns. Colby needs to fight someone else for a contender fight. Also, Leon beats Colby easily. People talk about his wrestling but he has a 43% takedown accuracy. And has only landed 48 out of 146 takedowns. There is no threat to Leon in the striking from Colby, as in power or anything. You gotta remember Leon went through 3 training camps for Chimaev's wrestling and went through 2 training camps for Usman's wrestling. Colby hasn't been active for a long time, he's getting older, and etc. Leon is young and hungry.

Completely different situation. Francis decided to not extend his contract with the UFC. Leon is talking about turning down a match offer. Fighters do it all the time. It's their right. The problem here is that Dana announced it before he tried to negotiate it. That's the only reason for us even knowing that Leon doesn't want it. Seems like Dana didn't learn from that Costa vs Rob situation (promoting it before closing it).

We all know Dana told Colby he’d get a title shot if he didn’t go as hard on Masvidal. Masvidal signed a 7 fight deal and has had only 1 of those fights. Colby could ruin him or worse put him in jail which Dana dosent want. So he’s like go easy on him and you can have the next title shot. Dana never makes fights at the post fight presser and he did for this 😂😂 crazy.

Who did Colby dodge? Dana and Colby have confirmed that Colby accepted 2 fights last year. I don't understand why people insist Colby "sat out" despite info provided by UFC. Khamzat must provide evidence texts/emails to prove his case. The alleging party must prove his case.

Colby said khamzat didn't want it, khamzat said Sean shelby called him 4 times about the fight and he said yes everytime. There's no proof for either side. My point is regardless of that colby is still 2-2 since 2019. In what world does that warrant a title shot? Is Khamzat the only guy in the division?
Such a sweet, honest humble dude. No tough guy fighter persona whatsoever. + he really put the work in, & stopped almost all of Usman's "wet blanket style." 🍻
On the flip side of their ending conversation. I have to completely disagree. How, If masvidal & Covington's both last fight, was fighting each other over a year ago in March 2022, is the rationale, Masvidal. Masvidal is ranked 11 with 3 losses in a row. Covington has sat at the top of # 1 for a looong time, clearing out all the welterweights. Let's not forget, Jones was gone for 3 YEARS, 3 times the amount Colby & Jorge have been gone & Jones went straight to a title shot. Periera fought 2 fights in the UFC & got a title shot. It's also a little funny to me that Khamzat never got mentioned. I love Edwards, but I don't think he wants it with Colby or Khamzat. However, to be fair, at the spectacular level Edwards has improved, which to me is un-freaking-real, I think he can definitely beat Covington. Since Edwards improved his takedown defense so well. The only reason for us knowing that Leon doesn't want it is because Dana announced it before he negotiated. Normally we wouldn't even hear about it. There's nothing that UFC can do about it If Leon decides to turn Colby down.
