Strange decision. Lee was taken down but it was a back and forth as far as who ended on top. Nicolini didn't really have much control. Angela was throwing more strikes on the feet and on the ground. I was surprised it wasn't a split decision for Lee. Really good fight for both fighters.

I thought Lee won. She did more damage. Nicolini was more dominant in grappling, but she didn't actually do any damage nor did she even get close on any subs. I know the One doesn't use the 10-9 system, so I am not sure how they do the scoring.

@@mrkeggjr I think you have the fighters confused. Nocolini got the take down, maybe passed Lee's guard half the time, then didn't do anything but lay on Lee and make a few half assed sub attempts. Lee was constantly reversing her, then actually did something from the guard and mount, punched, elbows, reversed, pounded the BJJ woman, got to her feet. Then the whole scenario repeated itself through the entire fight. The only fighter that did anything when in a position of advantage was Lee. Horrible decision, poor judging.

Totally agree. I watched the whole fight and ALMOST didn't bother to watch the final decision because I thought it was fairly obvious Lee won. Imagine my surprise. I absolutely hate when lay and pray fighters "win" a bout. She did no damage to Lee. There really weren't any close submissions....some attempts to get position to submit, but never actually even getting position. This wasn't a grappling, or jui jitsu match, this was a fight and should have been scored as a fight. While I can absolutely appreciate, understand, and love the amazing grappling, scrambles, and reversals that did happen throughout the fight, the key word is fight. Laying on someone isn't fighting. Now, if Lee hadn't reversed so many times, then I would give the win to Micolinni for maintaining dominant position, even without doing damage, but due to the multiple reversals, escapes back to feet, and damage from Lee, as well as her positioning on top with damage, she should have won this.
I also thought Lee won. I'm not sure how the scores added up.
Two amazing fighters in the glory of the highest levels of competition. They both delivered in this fight and lived up to all expectations. I've watched this fight 10 times and still have Lee ahead on my scorecard. Fortunately we can watch the fight several times here but the judges only get to see it once before they give their decision.
Once was enough for them to see beyond the bias that considers Lee has a right to be given a win. They saw, they were there, none of Lee's blind idolisers were and saw only what they thought they should see.
Result is not fair. How judges can ignore the whole world? It is a good example of partiality.

They're both so talented and top fighters but Nicolini has superior jujitsu skill. However, Lee did more damage and her jujitsu skill is as almost that good. I have high respect for both of them but, like most of people here, I think Lee should have won and what makes it worse is unanimous decision for Nicolini is ridiculous!!
😬 I watched this fight 3 times. I think both fighters worked hard, had good moves, but no question this was a Lee win. Not sure what the judges would have seen to decide unanimous for Nicolini !???

Not really. Most of the shooting was coming from Nicolini. Even though Angela ended on top of Nicolini (most of the time) but there was no prominent 'attack' but instead Angela was defending on the ground from the BJJ world champ, Nicolini . The fight was mostly on the ground and Nicolini is dominant on ground fight. If Angela dominates the ground fight, she could have won that match. If Nicolini opted to stand-up fight with Angela, she could have lost that fight.
I think the judges are ok aid off! I've seen other fights where the person who got beat was celebrating before judges decision which did go in her favor??? So yeah this is rigged just like all professional sports!!!

both did really good but yeah I feel lee won this one, she was able to regain control numerous times while being full mounted and she almost broke guard numerous times while applying damage. the other lost control. plus lee did more damage overall. feel the judge judged only by takedowns. takedowns do nothing but take down unless you can keep control at least. hopefully get the tap for the win, but not keeping control should be a neg. but what was judged was judged i guess

Angela lost because she usually knocks out her opponents or at least does a better job a dominating. Neither were seen here because Michelle's ground defense and offense was simply amazing. She must have trained hard for this fight to go up against a champion. I respect the decision.

@@mensrea1251 no you take control of the fight. More than 80% of the fight went to the game plan of Michelle and not Angela. If it were the other way, 80% standing because Angela wanted it to be there and as to plan, then it would have been unanimous in the other direction. Michelle literally controlled the fight. Of course she won.
@@ickerish By your logic Andrade vs. Shevchenko should have been won by Andrade. 80% on the ground - just like Jessica, the wrestler/grappler, planned it. Planning isn’t execution. Don’t think Michelle planned to be reversed so often nor eat so many hammer fists. There’s a precedent for this kind of result in mma going all the way back to Couture vs. Smith. The split decision there at least signalled the obvious conflict among the judges on whether it was worthwhile rewarding Couture for the clearly cynical ploy he deployed against the kick-boxer Smith of just literally sitting on him the entire fight. I get why the judges may have awarded the win to Michelle, but the result doesn’t sit right in my view. Angela did more with her time on the ground than Michelle did. I don’t think there’s anything “of course” about it.

But Nicolini was able to better control and take more dominant positions. She also had multiple submission attempts. I agree that Lee threw more strikes, the question becomes how much damage were those strikes doing? I think this is where judging in MMA is so much more complicated than either straight striking or grappling. You have to take both into account. Situations like this one, where one fighter is throwing more strikes but the other is maintaining more control, only demonstrate how much more judging in MMA has to evolve.

If it was a fight in UFC, Angela would've won. Great fight, very close, but Angela had it.
I had Angela winning 2 to 1 , she countered her ground game and did more damage with her strikes. She should've worked harder to keep it on the feet.
Just so you know, ONE doesn’t score round by round like the UFC does, instead the whole fight is considered in the final decision. I still thought Lee won though.

By her own standards Lee did nothing and prefers the floor where she often wins but even when on top she was bound up most of the time. Reversal of position was in both favour but over all Nicolini worked harder for the decision being more the agressor.
Very true, the BJJ fighter was strong on her take downs but then didn't do anything but lay on Angela! Terrible decision. One is starting to look like......the UFC!

I'm never in disappointment after watching an Angela Lee fight though I like Stamp but this was impressive considering Lee's history with Michelle and the adjustments Michelle made in the grappling Lee fought hard but I think the loss to her in the grappling tornament was more of a factor then what happened in the fight.

i can see how ppl think Lee won, both the crowd was yelling and the commentator was biased as well. Nicolini was in control of the fight 90% of the time. mount was dominant position, and when she got reversed into closed guard, closed guard is still technically considered a winning position for person on bottom (Nicolini was threatening both triangles and armbars, but Lee defended well). she had overhook or bicep control, no significant shots got through. neither really did enough damage to overtly win, but Nicolini won on control.
Asking the 3 of judges in the future you have judge fair for fight , if 3 of the judges asking 1 millions people who won the fight of course angle lee

Angela clearly won that. More strikes, and closer to a submission right at the end, and also the best position by either of them the whole fight, taking the back. Other than that, they stale-mated each other. Nicolini succeeded at exactly nothing, as did Angela most of the time. They each shared top control about half the time, but only Angela managed to work in any strikes when she had it. How do you declare someone a winner who landed no strikes nor any other kind of damage, and never came close to a submission, nor even attempted one? What are they counting? Every second they're both grappling as points for Nicolini, by assumption that Angela wants to strike? I can't figure it any other way.
You need to run that again and this time watch it, rather than assume Lee won it before it even started. In the 2nd round Nicolini landed several blows straight in the face of lee plus a couple of elbows. There were others but you deny any at all. Blow for blow Lee did no more and in both cases you cannot always see if blows landed especially when Lee was half standing, Nicolini on the floor being swung at. Did they land? Looked good but if they punched nothing but wind it's nothing. You got it right about stalemate and that neither succeeded that thoroughly but you cannot say Nicolini at nothing and Lee most of the time. Lee did not get more streikes and close to a submission is no submissin. Nicolini had Lee's head in a leg lock once which could have gone somewhere but it didn't. A clear winner was difficult but Nicolini was the aggressor and went for it, The attacker, Lee the defender mostly. The Judges reckon Nicolini edged it, so do I.

Nor the fight as a whole. I did _not_ see Nociloni as the attacker and Lee the defender most of the time. That, I think, is the error. I saw them _both_ attacking, though neither succeeding. Nicolini was taking it to the ground, and then Lee was reversing, bridging and taking top position from her. This happened many times. Taking top position, when you were on the bottom, is both defending and attacking. If that's just 'defending,' then, by logic, it was just 'defending' for Nicolini to have had top position. If it was 'attacking' for Nicolini to have been on top, then when Lee got on top, she was 'attacking.' Something can't be 'attacking' when one fighter does it, and 'defending' when the other fighter does it. I suspect that points were awarded to Nicolini for take-downs(taking it to the ground) but not to Lee the many times she gained top position when on the ground. IF that's how scoring is done, my God, that makes no sense. Then it's just a matter of trying to guess what each fighter wanted and if they got what they wanted - to assume their internal state of mind - instead of counting damage or control to their body, moral, or energy. Every other MMA fight I watch, I see one of the fighters give up, and ride out the time, on the defensive, no longer trying to win, but just to survive. I did not see anything like that from Lee for even a moment in this fight. In fact, I did see it from Nicolini in the last 30 seconds of the last round. Lying on the floor holding on to Lee's foot. That's not an attempt to win, but an attempt to ride out the clock, exhausted, after getting punched in the face, and feeling discouraged and demoralized for having failed to put together a submission for 3 rounds straight. That takes a LOT out of a person, and she looked worn out. And Lee did not. I think if people watch the fight muted, to avoid being influenced by the extremely one-sided commentators, their perspective will change. But, I guess this is the nature of trying to judge a fight. People see it very differently. I respect your perspective.

I didn't see the gal do anything with her ground game. She got reversed multiple times and Lee was the only one to really deliver any g&p. Lee didn't obliterate her, but she certainly did more in top positions. Funky call. Close fight but hardly a all three card win in my book.

That was a shame, Angela Lee should have won. Although Nicolini mounted Angela a few times, she didn't do anything with it. Nicolini only had Angela in danger of a submission once. How anyone could watch that and say Michelle Nicolini won needs to get there meds adjusted. That was a worst then the Tyrone Woodley fight with Jake Paul, but at least that was a slit decision

The repost was to promote Michelle for her title fight in Empower event. Not a very good promotion given how we all saw her losing in our eyes, but it made sense since she did get a decision over the great Angela Lee. Spoiler, she lost the title fight.
