⚓️See It To Believe It: Duluth Ship Unloads Gigantic Wind Blades!
Boat Friends,
Welcome aboard! Join me on an extraordinary journey as we witness the awe-inspiring arrival of the Stellar Maestro, an ocean-going leviathan, at Duluth’s Port Terminal on May 9, 2024. This isn’t just any ship; the Stellar Maestro brings with it a cargo that redefines monumental - wind turbine blades that can stretch up to 350 feet in length!
From the shores of Duluth, Minnesota, to the waves beside us, experience every moment of this spectacle. We start our adventure on land, capturing the initial moments as the ship approaches the harbor. But for the up-close action, we board the Boat Friends boat, getting right alongside the Stellar Maestro as it navigates through the waters. You’ll feel as if you’re right there in the boat, feeling the spray of the lake and the thrill of the proximity.
These wind blades aren’t just large; they symbolize a giant leap toward sustainable energy. Each blade is an engineering marvel, designed to harness the wind’s power across the vast plains of America. Seeing them up close is understanding the scale of renewable energy technology.
The Duluth Maritime area is not just a backdrop for this event; it’s a hub of industry and innovation. Known for handling some of the most significant and diverse cargoes, Duluth’s Port Terminal is a fitting stage for the grandeur of the Stellar Maestro’s delivery.
This video documents the entire process, from the ship’s approach to the meticulous docking maneuvers. If you’re fascinated by maritime prowess or renewable energy, this is a video you cannot miss. Witness the seamless orchestration of maritime skill and technological marvel-all in one frame.

Mike, what an extremely well produced video! And the video/audio quality was great. Really liked how you mixed the shore portion with the on the water action. And you brought us plenty of bonus activity. The tug Candace Elise and the American Integrity were fun. We were treated with an awesome clear blue sky weather. And boy did I enjoy the video a Boat Friend sent you. No question that family is having a wonderful time in Australia! The Stellar Maestro traveled over 100,000 miles last year. And visited 34 ports. Folks, that's over 4x around the world. This totally amazes me. Thanks for bringing this video to us Mike. It really did feel like I was there in Duluth. I just can't wait until we get our first live from your boat.
Excellent information as always, Chuck. We’re trying to determine where this ship brought the cargo from. I did see information saying that these blades are from Mexico, did the ship come from Mexico?
The ship sailed from Cape Town, South Africa and picked up the blades at the Port of Altamira, Mexico. From there she sailed to Montreal, Canada, and then to Duluth. About a week ago the salty Ronnie also dropped off blades in Duluth from Mexico. @@vibewithmike
Wow ChuchG that is one well-traveled ship. That crew has to be really dedicated. Time off must be fewer and farther in between for that crew. But they must see a big part of the world unless they are contracted to just bring those wind turbine blades to the US. It is a gorgeous ship.
@chuckg6039 thanks for the information now we know the voyage
Ken, take a look at this big truck hauling one of these blades kzhead.info/sun/oqdtgdd7oX2LfKM/bejne.htmlsi=2j9rx_kiucaeK3R5
Hey Mike, we’re on the edge of our seats for this one! You’re too good 🤗
The wind blades are amazing on the ship
What a exciting place to be. Thanks for the show Mike from New York
Hey, you live in an exciting place too. Anywhere in New York is a fun place. I definitely have to get the buffalo at some point to try the original buffalo wings.
You’re onto something here, my friend. These productions from the water are amazing. Love it.
I’ve never seen it before in Duluth and it’s unbelievable to actually watches on video myself. I’m having a great time recording the ships for everybody. We’re going to keep things going like this and have a lot of fun doing it every time a ship comes in and we haven’t even got to the loading or unloading shots.
Your narrative is top notch
Thank you for saying that! Again, I’m just a regular guy that hits record on the camera and the excitement comes out as I watch these ships. I even forget to relay the decibel level when I hear the horn because I’m so focused on what’s going on and excited.
Let’s go, boat friends. ❤❤❤
Couldn't have said it any better. Hope you are having a good day today.
This is such an impressive ship, and those wind turbine blades are unbelievable!
The crow 🐦⬛ gave a captain’s salute! Great footage. So much to see. That’s a real interesting looking salty. Creative colors. Nice Sydney submission too. Another terrific video Mike 🚢👏
It was so fun to be able to record that crow! I recorded it because I actually asked myself. I wonder what it’s crawling about, and I just said it.
Yay! We’re going out in the boat!!
I see you sitting there in the back of the boat there, grab this fishing pole, maybe we’ll catch something. I’ll have the net ready.🐟🐟🐟🎣🎣🎣🎣
LOL Mike, I saw you out there filming!!!! Cool beans!!!
I’m so glad that you were able to watch the video premier live, it’s so great hearing from you on a Friday Lauren
What a lovely day you had on the water! This ship is a beauty and i’m still amazed about how easy it looks when the captain ”drives” her! Thank’s for this one Mike 😃👍
This was such a wonderful ship

Excellent video, Mike! Love seeing the other boat friends' pictures and love being able to listen to the radio chatter. Looks like you got to enjoy another beautiful day in Duluth!
Yeah, I was interesting hearing the Captain and the lift bridge operator talking on the radio. Check this out. kzhead.info/sun/nLipipmOa3qofmw/bejne.htmlsi=HEvIwfce70iEE-5y
@@vibewithmike That was amazing! I would never want to be that truck driver!
@KellyfromTC I mentioned this before, but there should be a competition semi drivers versus captains!
I love it when the ship and bridge are "talking" via horns. It reminds me of Close Encounters when they were talking to the mother ship!
I enjoy that too, did you see this video from today the live stream on the boat? kzhead.infophgAnWEyfZ0?si=aDAXFss0QJdLrFqi
Beautiful day, too.
The one thing in the video that I really didn’t talk much about is how beautiful that sky looked as well with that ship
I’m seeing this on Friday night May 10, 2024. My friend was saying today, “It feels like October not May!” The Temperature was 56F. I’ll tell her it was 41 F with wind chill yesterday in Duluth. Again, when the Integrity sounded her horn, it shocked me. What a great day you had.
Thank you so much! It should be much better and Duluth tomorrow in the mid 60s and possibly mid 70s on Sunday. But then I see the extended forecast shows temperatures in the 50s again. Let’s get a constant warm-up, I want to get out on the boat and show you the ships in nice weather
Viewing the Stellar Maestro sail into port from a water level view adds a whole new dimension to the Boat Friends channel. Thank you Mike I would like to purchase a Boat Friends flag if and when they become available. I’d like to fly it from my boat
I will be going live in about one hour. I hope you can join.
Thanks Mike...love the "play by play commentary"....from another boat friend!
I’m glad that you enjoyed this one! It was the first one where I try to format where I started out on land and then went out onto water. I think I might keep that moving forward when we see the ships.
Boat Friends, here’s some additional information to help you learn more about these huge wind turbine blades and what they do. www.iberdrola.com/sustainability/wind-turbines-blades
Great to see you on the water! I hope to see more maritime activity from the Duluth area.
Can you imagine all the fun that we are going to have on the water this year? We will be everywhere with the ships.
So great to be right there for the pivot!
We got so many more places to go to exploring this harbor on the boat
Hey Mike! The water views are killin’ it. Well done boat friend.
I’m going to do a few videos of the ships loading and unloading as well
Hi Mike and boat friends ! NOCKED IT OUT OF THR PARK WITH THIS ONE ! Two ships under the bridge ! Featured boat friend from Portugal vacationing in Australia Detailed inner tour of the Duluth harbour ! Live stream ! Excellent ! Excellent ! Mike everybody Have a great day !
Our boat friend in Australia is having fun for sure. I would love to visit Australia someday. That Sydney harbor especially. Thanks for carving out some time to watch pal.
Thats what i call boat watching, so impressive with the heavy load, simply great
Can you imagine those big blades moving all around while they’re going through ocean swells?
Keep em commin! The combination of the beautiful area and your knowable presentation is fantastic!
Your comment puts a smile on my face. I really appreciate you saying this. I really had fun recording this cool ship with that awesome cargo.
Thanks Mike😊
B&W!!!!!! Happy Friday, my friend. It’s always great hearing from you. You’ve been part of this channel for a long time. And I really appreciate it. Thank you.
Awesome Mike!!! The Green Gates are Now Open!😀
I saw that, I’m happy
One of the largest Wind Turbine Farms is on the South Dakota/North Dakota border near Ellendale, ND. Absolutely surrealistic! Entire hillsides covered with these HUGE Wind Turbines. And now we know that many of them are built in Duluth with imported blades. Thanks Mike!
Hey Mike, and ALL THE GLOBAL BOAT FRIEND NATION, fianally from a warm Bismarck. Wow, what a two fur, a Kfooter under the bridge,an awesome tug, and a neat little sailboat all in one with a large footer leaving from the Superior side with a forest fire going on in the background. Man this video has everything, and you were busier than a 3 legged cat in a litter box getting all that action. Props on that as you did one heck of a job. Blue was out there waving the flag, and getting you some terrific shots as well! That boat is really working out well getting shots nobody else is getting. The salty is riding high no doubt as her holds probably do not have much cargo with those blades on top. We see a lot of those blades out here with all the wind farms, and I can attest they are huge. They come in convoys but they are much longer than a normal Semi trailer so they have to rig axles to them somehow, and they take up a lot of space on the road. Great video Mike, and Go Blue!!! Never seen a Kfooter back in in to the ore dock, makes sense but that is a new one for me as well!
Chucke, what are the things you want to see in Duluth superior? Loading, ships docked, more docks, fishing, etc. what would be cool to add new things into the mix now that we have a boat? We can do anything now man. What are you thinking?
Mike, this new on the water view has captured your fans I have to say. They are really starting to see just how large these vessels are, and finally get to see how tight a fit they have to deal with in the Harbor itself. I think a plan would be to take Blue and tour the Harbor just to show the folks a real time view of all the important places these big ships actually load such as the coal dock, ore docks, the various elevators, bulk loading facilities etc. The shot showing where this vessel docked to unload the blades was interesting, and would love to see those cranes on deck unloading those monsters would have been awesome. Back in the day when I worked there, the fishing in the Bay was awesome, but you could not eat the fish. The water was so polluted from I believe it was the potlach paper company that the fish were inedible. They were trying to get this cleaned up, but I left before seeing this come to fruition. There was a big issue in my time there with taconite loading in Two Harbors about this causing health issues and there were law suits trying to stop this from taking place. Obviously, this was settled but was quite a deal at the time. Sport fishing is huge there so maybe charter a boat and take the Nation on a fishing trip on the big lake. Some ideas for you….
A two for one!😊 I'd love to be hanging out with you on the Boat Friends boat. This will do for now though. Maybe someday I'll make it to Duluth. Take care Mike,be safe and God Bless you my friend!!!❤😊
Two for one plus a tug and sail boat! Have a great weekend pal
The Stellar Maestro looked much more used than I would have thought given it was built in 2012. It seemed to have a lot of weathering on the hull and cranes. Really neat to see those wind turbine blades as deck cargo. It would be neat to see them unload them. Thanks for the great views, Mike.
I actually thought the same thing Robert. That's what salt corrosion does I guess.
I definitely would’ve recorded them unloading, but they were just getting sent at the dock and they were not in any rush unload. It would’ve been very dark definitely nighttime.
Take a look at this video of a semi caring, one of these blades on the highway kzhead.info/sun/oqdtgdd7oX2LfKM/bejne.htmlsi=2j9rx_kiucaeK3R5
@@chuckg6039 I kept modest sized cruising sailboats on Chesapeake Bay for 35+ years. And even though it was only partly salty water (brackish) dealing with rust and corrosion was a constant battle. So, yeah, that ship has been dealing with salt water issues from the beginning. Sam, Towson, md
@samuelcollins1331 ⛴️👍
Another great perspective of the Duluth channel and lift bridge. Ships and water is many times the best way to transport some cargo.
This was a really fun video to get out on the water to show you the big beast of a ship
Can't wait to see this beauty
The load of these wind turbine blades on the ship is so cool
Thank you, Mike ! Another amazing ship.
The ship was so cool, but I think the cargo is the real deal, that’s what really took the show on the water today
I don’t know what’s more impressive, the size of the ship or the size of the wind turbine blades.
It has to be those blades, we don’t see that too much. It’s such an unusual cargo and think they were going through the ocean with that huge cargo like that.
New subscriber and former Michigander here, with a never-ending love for the Great Lakes! Thx for these cool vids!
Well, thank you so much for subscribing! The one thing I really appreciate is obviously you watching the ship video but taking time to actually write a comment. That is so cool Have a wonderful Friday night, my friend.
Great to have you onboard as a subscriber. Welcome!
6:36 great view of the boat
The boat was carrying some of the coolest blades and they’re huge too
I can’t wait for this video!!
It’s one of the most amazing cargo loads I’ve ever seen on a ship arrive in Duluth
Hey Mike, I really like the videos from an on water viewpoint ! , keep them coming. many many thanks, ftom me across the pond in the UK.
My friend from the UK, thank you so much for taking time out of your evening to watch this ship video here in the United States. It’s a true pleasure to record the ships in different situations. I wish you a fantastic close to your Friday night and an awesome week ahead.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️
I''ve seen similar ships, with turbine blades, in the Welland Canal - always impressive! What will be more impressive is transportation of those blades from dockside Duluth to wherever the wind farm is located. The video from Sydney - the best harbour in the world - must have been taken a few days ago. The weather there these last 2-3 days has been atrocious - low cloud and heavy storms.
Australia is one place that I really want to visit someday. All over the coastline including Sydney. I definitely want to get on the water and do one of those two bolts like they did. Thanks for watching my friend. Take a look at this. kzhead.info/sun/nLipipmOa3qofmw/bejne.htmlsi=HEvIwfce70iEE-5y
Just left Superior and straight to Point Moss, Mississippi. 89° here now with humidity feels like 94°. Really cool shrimp vessels in the nearby harbor. I miss Superior today. Great video Mike.

Magnificant color and clarity. Really sharp wave action on the lake and shore. Always love seeing the tugs, possibly my favorite boats, always being helpful, patient and respectful communication with the captains of the ships. Its beyond amazing that these immense wind blades are transported on a saltie or any ship for that matter. Such a unwieldy cargo coming from a great distance. Maritime shipping is so interesting. Your video equipment is of obvious quuality to provide such a crisp presentation.your progress is as much fun to observe as watching the ships. Wonderful, professional job as usual! Looks like a fun summer is in the wings with your endless creativity. Applause , Applause!!!
In observing your boat and handsome flag, maybe a flag for purchase by boat friends in you store would be a popular item.
You really made my day with this comment. That’s so nice of you! I’m really really appreciative of what you said. I really have a fun time out there and the thing that makes me the happiest has been able to press record and know that I’m going to be able to bring you the ships and Duluth right through my eyes. Ken, I did a little bit of research and it looks like these blades are from Mexico so I think the ship might have picked these up in Mexico and made it all the way to Duluth. However, I will confirm this for you. But those blades are unbelievable. Being right next to them it’s even hard to believe they can start spinning in the wind.

@@vibewithmike right. I guess it depends on the size of the enclosure 🤔

@@vibewithmike dang, that's nuts!
I still can’t believe people can drive trucks with those
Great video. I wonder if the ship thought that you might be a tug out there to help them in case they needed a little push? Thanks for the video. Great perspective from the water
I wonder if my boat could carry one of those turbine blades?😂😂😂😂😂
@@vibewithmike I'm sure it could handle 1 of the blades. You might be sitting low in the water though. LOL
Super cool Mike
good day
Hey friend, hope your Monday is going great. Thanks for watching the ship.
Great video Mike!!!
Bill, thanks for those photos yesterday man. That was really cool.
@@vibewithmike I'm glad to be able to make you smile like you make us smile. My family and I are in Duluth for the weekend
@billford1223 you’ll see me out on that boat lot tomorrow. Give wave if you’re down by the canal. We can chat.
@@vibewithmike sounds great!
@billford1223 did you see the weather tomorrow? You really picked a good weekend to come up, that’s going to be really nice tomorrow. It was also really interesting to see that unbelievable storm come through earlier
Getting out on the water is really nice on one of the great lakes. We have been out on Green Bay as a younger person living in Green Bay. We even walked out one very cold winter early in January on the ice out over 2 miles to the light house in the near middle of lower Green Bay. It had to have been well under 32 degrees and nearly 0. We now live in Ventura County of California and I take my sit on kayak out over 1 miles out of the Oxnard harbor into the Pacific ocean (the biggest ocean on the earth). There are huge swell even out 1 miles in the ocean. It is much rougher than the great lakes. The channel off Oxnard gets down over 1,000 feet only a few miles off shore. Submarines often run far under the surface through the very deep channel. We used to live in San Diego. Less than 1 mile off the Scripts Oceanographic institute shore there is a underwater canyon over 1,000 feet deep. That is deeper than all the great lakes. We have harbor seals, great white sharks, squid, tuna, whales, and many other ocean creatures in the Pacific ocean. It is very nice living near the ocean.
It must’ve been really cool singles military ships there in San Diego. I wonder how the Boat friends Boat would do there in San Diego?
@@vibewithmike I paddled my kayak in the ocean in San Diego even in December and January. Everyone understands the wonderful experience out on the ocean. Being on the water is nice where every you are. They do have Navy aircraft carriers on North Island in the San Diego harbor. They also have nuclear submarines, the stealth destroyers, and the Navy Seal school in the same San Diego bay. We go there about 8 times a year many times just sit on the edge of the bay to watch the ships and smaller boats. I do want some day to see Singapore and or Hong Kong harbors. The ship mixed with small boat traffic is amazing. Any ship and boat traffic is very nice to watch. The channel and lift bridge in Duluth is very nice to see from many perspectives.
@wendyphillips5002 I would love to go watch the ships in that area. The navy seals go through their BUDS training to become seals right there. Don’t forget your beautiful weather as well.
@@vibewithmike I lived my first winter in San Bernardino in the Air Force. That is all it took was a winter without snow and cold below freezing. I traveled to San Diego and discovered San Diego State University with an engineering degree for under $100 a semester. 4 years with an engineering degree there were many defense jobs in San Diego with homes under $100,000. I found my home in San Diego. The weather is better the closer to the pacific ocean you are. Now, the homes under $1 million are 10 or more miles inland with temps well over 100 in the summer. The weather is too nice attracting way too much money pushing home prices higher and higher. Just having a picnick on the San Diego harbor and bay is spectacular watching the Navy seals, nuclear submarines, huge air craft carriers, stealth destroyers, many cargo ships, with kayaks, paddle boards, and pleasure craft is wonderful. I / we can spend hour watching the traffic in the harbor waters of San Diego.
@wendyphillips5002 $100 a semester! Unbelievable, I will say it again unbelievable! Take a look at how much that same degree is right now. It is through the roof. Nothing is cheap in San Diego.
Hey mike gtsy my friend
Bill, I hope you have a wonderful Friday all set to go. I’m so happy you’re able to watch the ship on a Friday. High five to you brother. 🙏
Components of wind turbines are commonplace on the great lakes
The Port of Monroe, Mi is often a staging area.
@chuckg6039 portofmonroe.com/
A lot of people wonder where they are going. Somewhere in the Midwest, right? Otherwise they would have been dropped on the west or east coast.
❤
Melissa, thanks for taking time out of your Friday to watch this ship video as always
I'm watching it over your doing the ship with the 2 big cranes. Is there another one you were saying that you got to go on the boat and look at the boat..is it after this one. Oh your pn a boat now
I’m on the boat halfway through the video
I do enjoy your videos. Being in a boat on the water gives even more views. I have one suggestion, please? Can you scan your camera a little slower. This fast scanning makes me motion sick on my couch. Thank you.
I’ll try my best, keep in mind. I’m just a regular guy with a camera. I think I’ve got a lot better overtime. But I’m no train professional by no means. Things happen to happen and kind of fast sometimes.👍
Have you teamed up with someone with a drone to do an over head perspective?
Not yet
STELLAR MAESTRO is certainly not a beast. Just a small heavy lift general cargo ship. The video is excellent though. From a "salty"
You’re right, it was all about the cargo in this video! Super cool blades
Them turbine blades are shipped to Dansville, NY.. I believe because there's a company that has been putting them up everywhere around my area and we don't get a kilowatt of the electricity. It all goes to NYC, because in NYC they banned natural gas and propane. All new houses being built have electricity heat, hot water, lights. It took the beautiful landscape from my area, the farmers can't resist the money and I'm having to watch theses farmers beautiful barns falling in or companies who come to Upstate NY and taking the barns down one piece at a time.. Hundred year old barns made with the pegs that are used when they were built. It's really sad for I'm on the highest point of my county and at night all you can see is the big red lights flashing. Were my house sits I can only see the blades and the big red 🚨 blinking. Some of the towns blocked them for China buy up a lot of the US land.
There’s a ton of ships in New York City, but there’s also a lot of vessel traffic along the New York coast. I saw some cool light houses on a KZhead video. One thing I was thinking about with these wind, turbine blades, how do they even get spinning there so huge?
@@vibewithmike It's a major job Mike.. A truck driver went the wrong way to the place were they drop off the parts.. He got off 1 exit before the plant and ended up trying to make a turn down main street in the little down called Dansville NY and the blades were to much for the turn and rolled the who load. Because they have a extra set of wheels in the far back just to make sure they don't bounce around and have support under them. I couldn't believe that he got to main Street. If he would have went maybe a mile to the truck stop and the place is right across the road plenty of room and just pulled up to the gate he would have been good. I don't understand why he wasn't stopped he was right by the police station on it's side. I had to drive down a few towns and see it. He should have shut down and call for the company to come back it back to the highway. It was the talk of many towns around here.. But when they put them up they pour a big cement pad and use cranes to lift the sections in place. I would like to say more but I have to go. But I'll let you know maybe I can find the video someone did probably the big news channels out of Rochester NY and Elmira and Buffalo NY.
@Freddie-pe9nz take a look at this video I found of one of these win turbine blades being transported on a big rig kzhead.info/sun/oqdtgdd7oX2LfKM/bejne.htmlsi=I_Hke_BTTiNvF5WT
