4:47 "Thrill?! J*ck off more!!!"🤣🤣🤣 One of my favorite quotes by Larry
And it's one of the first things I have to take issue with. Uncle Larry has obviously never had "f*** you money". At some point, you can have so much money that it ceases to have value. It's like water, or carpet... it's just one more thing you have, use, and never think about. Crown was robbing the place because he wanted a challenge. (watch the whole movie. there's a lot going on.)
Gosh i finally found what i was looking for.
@@jfbeam Nah, I understand Larry's reason. For him, as someone who so poor he had to rob. He would never understand a rich man doing it for fun only. As he said, doing crime is dangerous, most of the time you end up in jail, so he never comprehend why people risk their lives for fun. Which is totally reasonable.
Perfect response, didn’t miss a beat😂

Where'd you get this???" and he goes "Ah I know a couple guys- I'm KIDDING Angela, Amazon delivery's run by the devil himself, jeez..." as your mom glares at him :) seems like a fun dude to tell you stories you don't care are real or fake, they're fun and make you laugh
Lol
It fell off a truck.
That was so specific haha
Yeah real fun until his world crashes in on you and either someone he robbed or owes money to comes to your family with a vengeance. Or the feds catch on and suck you into it, staking out your place, interrogating you and making you feel like you’re guilty of something just because your family member is who they are, then they try to use you against them and that’s a whole other kind of guilt. Not to mention the embarrassment when it goes around town your family has a criminal in it. Everyone starts looking at you differently. Friends, gf, neighbors, people you see on a daily basis. Had an uncle like that. He was really cool and trust me was the favorite uncle, until he wasn’t. Then it was just a nightmare for us, even long after he went to jail.

It could also be a fear that a judge could watch this and say "Hmmm, have you really learned your lesson? You're talking about it in a way that makes me think you haven't.. 2 more years for you." Cause let's be real, that's entirely likely.
"But I don't do that anymore" lol I'm sure he's probably genuine but it sounds funny every time he points out that he doesn't rob anymore.

Methinks thou doth protest too much.
"... But it's WRONG"
16:58 One touch I liked in the movie is that the brothers rob local branches, so the feds initially can't get involved when it's not a national branch. And they initially take nothing higher than $20s to avoid countermeasures like dye packs. It's only when they get greedy later that it all falls apart
The thing about robberies too, is that you don't wanna get involved with anyone who's the "loose cannon" type. Yes, you need fear and intimidation which normally keeps people in line, but in a lot of robberies when they walk in and start throwing people around, you can almost bet they'd be willing to screw over their whole crew or resort to violence regardless of the outcome. There's been a lot of cases where bank robbers have harmed people even after they got what they came for. At that point, you have more charges and it's honestly a liability. Most successful unsolved robberies were ones where not a single shot was fired or a single person harmed.

It's like giving a key to a combination safe you own. The actual use of these techniques will get you got, not the other way round.
@Ricardo Santos The crime you are describing is a matter of personal morality. A crime is a crime regardless of whether it hurts someone or not. Doesn't mean the law is always right, or that crimes are always bad.
I think in The Thomas Crown Affair he did it because it was satisfying to see if he could do it, and how well he could plan it, and carry it out. Testing your skills is great motivation. Feeling like you are smarter than everyone else, then wanting to prove it, seems like a possible reason.
What Lawton pointed out about "Ocean's 11" was the big problem I had with the movie: There was WAY too many people involved. If you paid attention, most of the 11 came across as arrogant asshats who, if they didn't blab before the heist would afterwards eventually brag to everyone they knew about how cool it was and how cool they were. Additionally, there was a hundred things that could have gone wrong, any one of which would have blown up the whole thing.
Narrator: "Former Jewel thief" Mr. Lawton: "Robber, not a thief" Video title: "Former Jewel Thief"
SEO I guess. No one is going to be searching for 'jewel robber'.
It's actually dishonest
Aight I think we know who Mr. Lawtons about to rob
His channel banner: Jewel Thief
Random Internet Weirdo thief is a generic term and applies to all takings. Robber implies a thief who steals using violence or threats of violence to commit the theft. It isn’t wrong to call him a thief it just isn’t precise.
"I'm not a jewel thief. I'm a robber." Vanity Fair: puts jewel thief in title
I don't think you can be " a jewel robber " you can be " a jewellery store robber " but that would look weird on the title.
Jewel thief sounds more dramatic
Ex thief
Theft is the removal of property without the owner's permission with the intention if keeping/selling it, but it's theft because there is no use of force and/or intimidation on the victim directly. Robbery is the act of using force and/or intimidation directly on the victim to take that person's property. No force or intimidation means not a robbery.
well to be fair, "jewel thief" is a much more recognizable phrase than "jewel robber"
When I started working in law enforcement we had numerous house burglaries in a short time span. Appeared to be same people doing them. After about 3-4 we realized there was always something major happening minutes before the burglaries. Misdirection is very effective. Unfortunately. Finally, we actually were able to catch the people causing the misdirection, and they in turn ended up telling us who was committing the burglaries.
His distinction between Robbery and Theft is correct. That applies here in Canada too: theft is just stealing something, robbery involves violence or a threat of violence in addition to that.

He was implying that he had these people at gunpoint. That's robbing
Stealing and robbing are 2 different things.
the voice is pre recorded idiot
If you've never seen Larry's series before or read his book highly recommend it
When Heat came out on DVD, one of my favorite memories is playing the shootout scene at a few different Best Buys and Circuit Cities with the speakers cranked up.
That's so funny that his robberies actually helped businesses since they could just get their insurance to cover the loss of every single item.... helped them so much so that most of the business owners didn't even testify against him. That's rich.
That's rich🤭
That is wealthy
There's a reason insurance will often think you did the robbery yourself for the payout. It is so much more efficient for selling your inventory.
About a decade ago the biggest (at the time) jewel theft went down in Israel, which involved robbing a safe deposit vault where a lot of stores kept precious stones. After the thieves were caught it was discovered only about half the jewels that they expected to be there actually were. A large number of clients either had advance notice and were committing insurance fraud -- or they were borrowing money on collateral that didn't exist. Either way, criminals on both sides.
Insurance companies are criminals through and through, so really they're just getting theirs.
Larry: “I’m not encouraging anyone to commit crime” Also Larry: *tells us best way to commit crimes*
But he really didn't. There is nothing he said that would really be helpful unless someone is just new and daft to this world.
He also says you will get caught
@@frequencydecline5250 Each piece of advice is helpful even if that's obvious for some.
He also tells the owners what to do.
I don't condone you to commit these crimes, but if you do, here's how you should do it.
Please come back and do a part 2!!!!!
My parents jewelry store was robbed. Nearly scared my for life cause I felt like things I new were safe just weren’t anymore. One of the safest places in my city was cracked open by a mallet. All by a guy in bowling shoes 😒
Next on vanity fair: “serial killer breaks down famous murder scenes in movies”
Please?
Though that is difficult . They could get someone like Dexter . A weird forensic expert
i would really like to see that
Cannibal describes cooking recipes used in movies.
Psycho Maniac breaks down famous psychotic rampages
"Money will get somebody motivated only so much, but blackmail will keep them quiet forever." Jesus Christ that's kinda dark
Well, we are talking about crime here.
Hey man when you become a criminal, dark is just a normal option.
Just make sure what you got is damaging enough
Carrer politicians know this all too well.
I like how in the last ocean’s, thirteen not eight, they black mail people just like this guy said
What he just said- about taking the apple watches over the fine art- makes absolute perfect sense. It's something they teach you in economics- the teacher will often ask what something is worth, the students usually look at the intrinsic value of the thing in question- the labor involved in making it, etc.- but then the teacher reminds them that if they don't have a market for it, it's worth nothing. It's just an exercise to stress the importance of markets to students but- lines up perfectly with the thieves' mentality as well. What's it worth? Whatever the market will bear- and not one penny more.
“rob what you know” how can I rob existential dread?
"If I robbed a truckload of Apple watches...." see's apple watch on his wrist Me: hmmmm
a truck load of apple watches
Lifts coffee cup: says Kobayashi underneath.
He's following the very same rules he set. > Always know what you're robbing. > Rob only stuff you can sell.
@@austinhuber3131 The greatest trick Larry ever pulled, was convincing the world that Apple Watch truck didn't exist... And like that... It's gone!
Sees*
Forget these movies. Somebody needs to make a movie about this guy's life and let him consult the director.
feel like that’ll send more people to jail lol
I agree, this guy has a lot of good advice that would be golden for movies. A lot of movies really need to consult people like him, because a little realism goes a long way in movies.
starring the rock?
Lord Motorsports lol I dont think we want realistic heist, it will just give future criminals just an idea on the how to be a successful robber.
Only reasonable Comment.
I love how he made the disclaimer about being wrong and that he did encourage theft several times during filming... Very cute.
S/B DIDN'T condone theft...
Explaining a crime is not the same thing as encouraging people to do it.
Everytime I come by this video I always watch this guy really turned his life around and not just regularly *but indeed very successfully*
