Silica gel is silicon dioxide. In the "gel" form its intended use is as a dessicant, that is it controls humidity by adsorbing moisture. Silicon and Oxygen bonds are very stable at physiologic temperatures, and so stable that human enzymes are unable to activate reactions. However, while it may be limited in chemical toxicity, physically it can cause problems.

I accidentally ate the silica. The lovely man at poison control immediately asked me, "Were you making a smoothie?" Yes, I was. I had emptied some frozen smoothie ingredients into the blender. I didn't realize that something frozen would have a gel desiccant in it. Since I blended it for my usual 4 minutes, it burst the package and the beads were evenly distributed throughout. I didn't "get it" until I found the packet. Then the man at Poison Control asked how many packets were there? Just 1. He said I'd be fine, just remember to check for packets in frozen food as well as freeze-dried items! Less learned...

@hayp682 I live in Brazil and have never seen silica gel come with food.
For those wondering "Why would they need silica gel packets for 3D printing?" - it's to control the moisture content of the plastic filament. The filament that's fed into the 3D printer needs to be kept dry, as when it absorbs moisture from humidity in the air, it can result in reduced print quality, with under-extrusion, stringing, bubbles, and oozing, thus leading to low-quality and fragile printed parts.

Not the same stuff as silica gel, but similar in function. Laughing out out out out out out loud
the visual of someone pouring a bowl of silica gel packets for breakfast like cereal is incredibly funny to me.
The question is: did he open the packets and pour the contents into the bowl; or did he also eat the paper/plastic packaging, as suggested by the accompanying footage?
"he could feel some beads squeeze in from under his eyes like they were pushing out of his skull" *joyful music playing in the background*
keep everyone happy
Hello there, Patchouli Knowledge from stage 4 of Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil.
Hello Patchy
Hi Patchy
So he's crying silica beads?
I saw the “do not eat” label when I was 6, and my parents told me why it said that. I was smart enough not to eat it.
Same
But if you were super pissed at them and then they told you not to eat it.. would you have???
@@fudgefudge8913, No, I was happy that they kept me from getting poisoned. I wasn’t that stupid, my dad was a smoker, and they told me what would happen if I started smoking. Even as a teenager, I never wanted to do that.
But not smart enough to understand depression.
I love how it's specifically for breakfast. Not as a snack or anything. For breakfast.
Man hearing silica gels crunches made me hungry now i need some silica gel cereals.
"How tough are you?" "How tough am I? I ate a bowl of silica gel packets for breakfast" "Yeah, so?" "With milk"
Welcome to the Salty Spittoon.

Lol, a Spongebob show quote 😹
Right this way sorry to keep you waiting!
I know its an old video, but your hair looks really good like that
This is crazy, literally crazy. This poor dude, he felt alone and unwanted, can’t obtain anything, felt like it was a simulation. Freaked out one day and wanted to come home to be with us and be like us. Very sad.
This is the problem with viewing certain types of success as a measuring stick for worth of a person or success as a whole. Comparing ourselves with others is fraught with issues either way because it can go away in an instant with a health crisis etc. High values, character and love are what make people successful- not what the corporate industry etc promotes necessarily. In fact corporate values and rewards narcissistic people who actually make their corporations workplace sick--they haven't realized this yet on a large enough scale to make any difference. These people eat nice guys like him for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Hopelessness and depression will push anyone to this kind of behavior so don't think u are above it...

I ate silica gel beads when I was 4. They were new in my country at the time and I thought it was sugar. My grandfather was babysitting me and he didn't know what it was so he was like "well if your mum let's you eat sugar packets..." . It tasted like nothing and I thought it was expired sugar lol. My mum almost had a heart attack when she asked where the little packets by the tv are and we told her I ate one. I think I maybe got a stomach ache but I can't remember lol
He was definitely not ok when he left, unless they treated the psychotic break this poor bastard had.😮
