It's finally that time of the year where the baby tortoises are hatching out of the ground! Here in Arizona it's one of the only places where people have success by letting Sulcata Tortoises hatch out naturally.
The other day I got some UNBELIEVABLE footage of my tortoise laying eggs. We also went around and fed ALL the tortoises and put the GoPro on Ike for the day! Full Video - kzhead.info/sun/mreJmZSuZIOtnJs/bejne.html

He leaves then in wild or may be some pets but not in that area, this is only place for them to hetch with high success rate

I'm from AZ too and my neighbor found a baby sulcata tortoise walking in her yard. We were very confused about where it came from. No one near us has reptiles but some friends and I. So seeing this baby we decided to walk around looking for more as well to see if there was someone with tortoises that was near. We didn't find anything, no babies, and not anyone who owed tortoises too. There was talk last year about someone's pet getting out but I had no idea if that was near me or not or if there are just wild tortoises living near my area that someone released. The baby still has a yolk sack on it when we found it. I decided to keep it as I have the space for it when it is bigger and experience with reptiles already. We are just confused about where they could have come from. It's been about a week now and still no sign of others. But the one I have is doing well.

Are there any predators where you live that have the capacity to entirely consume them? Because that would be my only guess as to what happened to the rest of its clutch.

Same thing happened to me last week. I also live in Arizona but the townhome community I live in is all grass. We have houses behind us but other than that it just appeared out of nowhere on the sidewalk the other day. I looked around and still look and haven’t found any others so I think someone’s pet just got out. I put out flyers and no one called so I gave it to my friend down in Tucson who has a big ranch with other Sulcata’s. It was too cute though. Sadly we only have a small balcony and that’s it, it deserves more. Zeus is now living his/her best life in southern AZ.
Imagine being born a baby tortoise: scared. alone. hungry. then, all of the sudden, a warm voice: “Hey buddy!” and whether you know it or not, you’re gonna live the rest of your life as best as any tortoise ever has ❤

Yeah, sometimes I can't even find my tort that is two times the size of his tort because they litterly look like the environment

This is the only kind of treasure hunt I want! Words can't describe the joy I feel each time you find a baby tortoise. Truthfully I'd watch hours of just this and lament on how short it was.
The only way you could get it back is by buying a used car and selling the car for free to the general population and not the people who have it back
This is so precious, all these babies have no idea the childhood they're about to have. I would absolutely carry a baby tortoise in my pocket except that's probably not healthy for them and they'd pee in my hoodie. But just imagine having a buddy at the ready, that would be incredible. The only way you can do this without a permit or permit would have to come with a warrant or a warrant for a warrant to arrest you if you’re not allowed to drive
Did not know that little bit about the markings on the shells sometimes not being symmetrical. That was interesting to learn! It’s amazing how many babies are all over your yard!

For such tiny creatures, they sure do go quite the distance.

Just conjecture, but the hatching area has plenty of vegetation, so they wouldn't starve. There's shade, and there's water for the bigger tortoises, no predators. He probably sells them, so picking them up is like picking $500 from the ground. If any deaths, if at all, it'll be absolutely minimal.
@@Kburn1985 I think that he stated somewhere that he doesn't intend to sell them, he just wants to raise them himself.
@@-crimean_khagan-110 At some point he should sell them too. Either way, people wouldn't eat these tortoises. They will also be kept as pets. Too many tortoises will make things cramped.
I believe he just rehomes some, I don’t think he turns a major profit

My Sulcata is now 100 lbs San Diego weather, lots of grass and an automatic water bowl and good fencing and he is 20 years here.

Ike is living his best life! You could be a flipping spotter! Those babies blend so well but you spot them easily and i would feel so bad for accidentally stepping on one I'm so glad they have you taking care of them!

Is this a re-upload video from last year because it seems familiar and if not, how will you deal with all the tortoises when they get bigger and you run out of space.
This was recorded a few days ago. Also all the tortoises that grow up here will stay here. I have the space to provide them with so I will be building more enclosures when that time comes.

Little turtles were playing hide and seek. Can they survive for a few days if you don't find them right away.
He said when they hatch, they have an egg sac under their shell to keep them sustained for about 2 weeks. Cool, huh? I was so happy to hear that so it gives him time to catch them all!😁👍
40 years old and I never knew I wanted a baby tortoise as a pet until I started seeing your Shorts on my feed. Amazing how well you raise and take care of them!

What do you do with all these babies?
I try to keep as many babies as I can but unfortunately I'm not able to keep every single one with the amount that they do have, so after I make sure they're 100% healthy and ready, I do let some go to new and good homes. I ALWAYS be sure they go to a good home and that the person is 100% educated and knows what they are getting themselves into.

Awesome , sulcatas sure do have big clutches , I have 2 male desert tortoise given up o me 20 years ago as hatchlings & 1 female desert tortoise that I found in my track homes in the road 5 years ago she laid 10 eggs this year , can’t wait for them to hatch , she laid 6 eggs last year but only 3 emerged from the ground on their own the other eggs were rotten .I also Have a 2 year old sulcata that was given to me as a hatchling , I plan to get it a few more friends and hope to breed some in the future . All my tortoises live outside and love the freedom , they get all the water and snacks they need , plus the plants & grasses that grow in the enclosure are very lush so they eat whenever they want , my sulcata is growing rapidly due to the natural environment and climate conditions. I love these things they are very relaxing to watch & it feels good helping the desert tortoise species improve in numbers even if it’s in captivity. I wish to own thousands of acreage one day in the desert to spend the rest of my life increasing the population numbers of the desert tortoise specifically but also other species alike , i have t had the chance to own other desert species yet but I can’t wait to !
