If you put too much baby oil, mineral oil, or oil based moisturizer on your polymer clay you can simply roll it over some cardboard to remove the excess.
thanks for the tip :)
April 14, 2020---Tried the baby oil routine and NOT having much luck with it. While it is softening, I still have hard, little clumps like a pea and it's a pita in trying to break them apart. HAD planned on using the clay upon buying it, but things happened and couldn't get back into modeling for several years, so that's how old mine is.
@@oldbaldfatman2766 Wow! That's too old :D Mine are 6 months old maybe.
What...nothing done.
Thanks a lot for allowing me to save my old clay!! I used olive oil and it turned out great! ❤
My pleasure :) Olive oil is a nice idea too.
My favorite way to break it all up like that is with a coffee bean grinder. :) Of course I don't use it for coffee beans anymore. I had long ago bought a new one and saved the old as a back up but then used it for old clay instead. :D - Heidi
This was one of the most annoying things with new clay I would buy. Yes, NEW! Thank you for this video because I had heard so many good things about the clay that I got and now I can give it a second chance
Happy to help! Sometimes even if the clay is new, it can be hard and crumbly because of the poor storing conditions. If you buy the clay from an art store yourself, you can squeeze the package and understand if it's soft or not. If the clay you have is translucent, the air bubbles can be seen so be careful about that. You can use a pasta machine if you have one, I didn't have it when I recorded this tutorial.
@@MahmurLemur thanks for the help! I found out what it was was reallyyyyy old clay that for some reason was still being sold.
Thank you so much, this hack really worked out so well when I tested it
You're welcome! I'm glad it worked!
Awesome! and a great way to use up some old moisturizers.
great😍 thank you
“Damn clay!” 😂❤
I should have used a cup!

thank you!
Do you have any secrets for reconstituting old already baked sculpey.
Fred Freddy, Frederick I don't think there is a way. Maybe you can carve it or use it as a base for another sculpture. You can add clay to it and give it a shape you want
Thank you Pinar! Now I have some kind of path from the polymer clay I inherited from my grandmother--oh, twenty years ago--to an incense stick holder for my sister.✨🎄🎁
Not at all! 20 years ago! I hope this works for you!
@@MahmurLemur IT WORKED! I wish comments allowed for pictures, but anyway I made a three-legged toad (fortune frog) in a kind-of dark celadon. Holes for three thicknesses of incense stick and a slot in the mouth for a coin.
@@aimeeglenister2893 Nice! I'm happy that it worked 😄
baby oil works best
I rolled out the dry clay with a rolling pin and broke it down completely. I then added oil and firmed it back with a little baby powder. Worked it :)
Yes it works! But my translucent clay had bubbles in it. I think it works better with colored clay.
@@MahmurLemur Maybe. I did it with coloured clay
i used olive oil to soften mine - is it now okay to bake it in the oven? dumb question I know but..
Yeap you can bake it :)
Did it work OK?
Can I use argan oil or olive oil?
I think that would work. Just try it with a little bit of clay :)
Thanks. I have, by mistake, bought many "old" clays and have an extremely hard time because of my hands. I'll try just about anything.....I guess if I overdo it, I can always put small amounts baking soda or powder to fix "sticky" clay!👍😊
I don't know about baking soda, maybe corn starch works better. Not sure :) You can also use an old blender if you have one.
@@MahmurLemur i really appreciate your answering my ?s! I will try cornstarch instead. I definately wouldnt cvp p]0 Z q
Ben supersculpy clay aldım ama aşırı sert geldi ve ne zaman dokunsam parçalanıyo nasıl yumuşatıcağımı bilmiyorum yada bozukmu lütfen cevap verin :((
Merhaba, eski bir kil muhtemelen aldığınız yere götürün bence.
tamamdır teşekkürler
I bought a bunch of polymer clay about 7 years ago and have to do this for every colour of the rainbow 🙃 im developing arthritis just thinking about it
:D You need to do a 30 minutes long yoga for hands :D
@@MahmurLemur i just did 25 blocks of different colored clay over the course of 7 hours and im certain I developed carpal tunnel 😅😭 but hey saving money lolllll
Omg that will be me if I let my clays sit for another year 😬 I started buying clay in 2016 lol and stopped using them a few years ago oh my. I'm fearing the idea of conditioning but I also just found a video where someone used a food processor. (Specially a glass one that you can use for nuts and ice).
to hard in my hands. can i use a small mixer?
I think that would work.
what ckay do you use ? thanks
+Weezie Pimenlu In this tutorial I used Fimo's transparent clay. But I usually use a mixture of Super Sculpey Beige and Firm for my sculptures.
