Is it possible to beat Borderlands 2 as with ONLY the Fastball? What if we tried it on OP10? What if there are not enough fastballs to get through the game? Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands the Pre-sequel, and Borderlands 3 all have guns (and Grenades!} that can get pretty wacky, but wacky doesn't always mean good. In this challenge run, we try to beat the game with a grenade mod that channels our inner Babe Ruth! Want to see me try this challenge with a different gun, grenade, or shield? When it comes to the borderland’s games, the first thing you might think about is all the wacky guns you can find but we can’t forget about those scary-looking rocks that go (Explosion noises) so to mix it up this time around, today’s question is: Can you beat Borderlands 2 with only the Fastball? Alright, before we hop in, I’m going to pitch the rules to you real quick. First off we- wait did I really put 2 baseball jokes in the intro, Nah bro we’re cutting that one out anyway, We’re playing on OP10 and we’ll be playing as Axton. The skills Nuke and Scorched Earth are both banned because they would probably carry us too much, but we will be using turrets for slag since gearbox decided a slag fastball was too fun to include in the game, No BAR allowed and we must have a fastball equipped at all times, meaning we are not allowed to use the stock grenade for boosted jumps in this run. With the rules out of the way, let's get to the build. Here’s a full view so the build critics can start their 4-page essay telling me I should have specd for more gun damage, but the skills I think are important are Do or Die because I need to be able to throw grenades while down and 11 in grenadier to make sure I have the balls to beat this challenge. As for turret upgrades I snagged the Shield, Mag-Lock, and extra turret skills for defensive help and Double Up for the aforementioned slagging. Gear consists of a basic shield because I wanted to do it without a big boom blaster to really flex on em, Vault Hunter Relic because it has no combat utility and getting cool drops is fun, an Expert Grenadier so we can carry more nades, and of course, Fastballs coming in Explosive, Fire, Shock, and Corrosive elements. Alright, let's hop into the run. Right off the bat, My subconscious masochism decided to start me off with a whopping zero grenades, I usually start myself with full ammo but no cash to keep it balanced but this time I had to search for everything. All the enemies in this beginning bit are fleshy so fire fastballs were the way to go. Dealing with the bullymongs was simple cus they’re huge targets, but I started having a little trouble when the bandits came into play. Simple math can figure out, barely any grenades and missing my shots, or throws I guess = a bad time. I had a few bandits left and opened every container available in liar’s burg to find more grenades with no luck. I would have bought more but the town didn’t have power and I was practically broke anyway. Additional things i could think about for this challenge was you could of used a stockpile relic for 26 nades. Or taken the easy way out and increased damage with a bone. Something id like to see you try is the op1-10 run that joltz did. He proved you could beat the runs with only grenades but you can always spice it up
I love how those 2 little wall turrets are a pain in so many challenges done by players. I saw them stop like 4 different challenges so far.

At first, I was expecting Krieg with the more grenade drops, bonus to explosive damage, overkill healing, etc. so you never run out. In fairness though, the slag and second winds are nice.

That ultimate constructor before the bunker is one of if not the most annoying enemy in this game so I thing everyone can give you a pass for it.

@@sarahh08it is a good class, ur just not using him right. Overall gaige Is the worst since you can only run 1 build on her. Granted that build is strong but it takes time and you will do no damage if you lose ur stacks.
I like to call this build the "yeetus deletus" and it's my fav way to play axton. Although I usually pair it with a jakobs AR for those pesky explosion resist enemies so i don't torture myself like you did

Not gonna lie, I would've probably ragequit on the baby turrets- by far the most annoying thing about Borderlands when doing item specific runs.
Joke Translation: "Axton becomes the world's deadliest baseball player."
Buggy turrets aside, challenge could be more feasible if you added a relic to boost nade damage and the spell grenades for the regen.
Yeah or even that big boom blaster thing I threw in the grinder, OR, as I recently learned, you could just sit behind the constructor for a LONG time and have it nuke it self do death because those deal self damage. 🙃

I've yet to watch but the 90% grenade damage resistance that the required SBA Constructor has, Handsome Jack has, and that Saturn has sounds super fun (Warden might have it too iirc). I've done Community Patch Gunless Axton before and those fights very easily can get on your nerves, it'll be interesting to see how you deal with the bloodshot stronghold given how that was my stopping point when I hit UVHM, too much required mobbing and not enough nades (even with Tiny Tina grenade ammo regen). Edits made during the vid: Also worth noting that the Vault Hunter relic only applies to blue gear and lower because of Gearbox quality spaghetti, iirc it's only real legitimate use is for a little bit of increase for the drop chances of the Cobra farm. Hell yeah portable Onslaught glitch Small QoL python mods would alleviate a lot of the picking up guns and having them go into your main hand and switching nades. I've found and used a mod that allows you to switch between favorited nades without opening inventory and a Allegiance/Restriction mod that allows you to disable weapons from entering your hands if they dont meet certain requirements. Allows you to filter based off of manufacturer, level, rarity, weapon type, etc. Pretty useful for a Tediore allegiance run I did on Axton. There's also a mod that allows you to purchase ammo from vendors without directly opening the vendor which is pretty nice, also a Python mod like the aforementioned two. Yeah UVHM DoTs are sad. Wilhelm has no nade damage resist so he gets murdered to death by nades and Tediore throws Yep, SBA V3.0 Constructor is CBT It's worth noting that the Kiss Of Death can crit, so I'm pretty sure it can be used for Face Mcshooty kill if it was just a general nade-only/gunless Axton run Yeah shock damage fastball was doing the most damage because Warrior takes reduced damage from fire and explosions. Overall really fun challenge run, cant wait to see what you put out next!!
Addendum: the Vault Hunter's relic actually just causes 5% of white gear to be rerolled into something that isn't white; the relative rarities of everything else stays the same. It's basically just a tiny step up from not having a relic at all. Edit: I misspoke. It actually reduces the chance of a piece of gear being white from 89.92% to 89.5% - so it reduces the chance of your gear being white by slightly over 0.4%, and most of those rerolls will be green items because the chance of green goes up from 8.99% to 9.4%.

A fun challenge could be to beat BL2 as a Wizard, and you can only use the spell grenades, like the Magic Missile (x2/x4), Fireball, Firestorm, Lightning, Chain Lightning.
Here’s a challenge idea; Can you beat Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel as Mad Moxxi? I have a hunch a Moxxi weapons-only run in TPS would be a lot more unique than in BL2 since TPS has the Slammer shield and the Vibra-Pulse Laser Gun, and interestingly enough, many of BL2’s base game Moxxi guns are in TPS but can only be obtained via Gibbed.

I’ve watched joltzdude enough to know that the fastball can hard-carry any run it’s used in (explains why it’s in almost all his runs), but it was interesting to see just how far the fastball can really go

Honestly, I think for future grenade only challenges you should allow the magic missile to regen grenades. Just for that though, loved this run!

I wonder if "Never allowed to reload" would be a fun challenge run? You have to keep picking up new weapons, because once you empty a gun's magazine, you have to toss it. Maybe grenades could be used 10x each? Since they are much less common than guns. It might not be possible if you go into boss fights without a full inventory of guns. Purchasing guns would be allowed, because it might be impossible if it wasn't.
Mitten squad did a challenge pretty similar to this! He had to use what ever gun drops and constantly keep switching if something new popped up.
This is one of my favorites of your challenges so far. Would be interesting to see a Gunarang only run, I feel that could get really frustrating in the later stages of the game.

As soon as you started this run I knew the constructors would be impossible. I loved running around with fastballs but had to use a gun for constructors. I am impressed you killed Saturn though.

The fastball is one of those items that is REALLY powerful and useful in a full build, but when it's all you got it's kinda trash.

Yeah, he chewed their asses like bubble gum. hit or miss, it didnt matter in the home run. Swinging through enemy's and them catching grenades was a blast. No matter how many curve balls life threw, he hit most. And when hopes seemed lower than a bat on christmas, he sent them sky high. Degloving the haters, and commenters piching ideas, he was able to get to third base with jacks daughter. He never let us down, yeah he ran around, but he never deserted us. He never make us cry (exept from laughter) and he never gave us up. Gotcha b!tch :)
