Eurowings Airbus A319: pilots, instruments and cockpit views of a scenic approach to Dusseldorf ( DUS / EDDL ) in Germany from the Netherlands / German border to runway 23L. Radio callsign: Eurowings 52P (Eurowings five two papa). With cockpit audio +. PFD (primary flight display)and ND (navigation display) views. Produced in 4k quality with 4 cameras.
The video starts at the Netherlands / German border where Lower Rhine River and Waal River meet and form the Rhine River. Views of the Lippe River and several channels are included.
On this flight, the captain is the pilot flying and the first officer the pilot monitoring. As you can see in the video, the captain is controlling the airplane via the sidestick and the thrust levers. The first officer is monitoring everything and talking with air traffic control (ATC) via the radio.
Please apologize the blurry PFD/ND instruments. This video was recorded prior to my new setup for the instruments camera which gives a much clearer picture.

    • Thanks for watching and your feedback! If the wind in DUS for Runway 23L blows from the left, it is always somehow gusty and variable in the touchdown zone due to the hangars and the train station. And if you have a strong headwind, the wind is blowing over the forest area in front of the runway and generates some kind of a rotors. We call this “The magic forest”. Have a nice day!

    • Thanks for watching ans your detailed feedback. The problem with the blurry PFD/ND had been solved in between. With my latest camera positions and filters they look most of the time sharp and much better than what we see here. This video was taped on my way of finding a good solution. I thought it is better to show a blurry PFD/ND than no instruments. Please let me know your opinion. During a transition period, we will see a mix of blurry and non blurry instrument setups. After that, the instrument will always look great unless there is a really bad sun reflection in the cockpit. Have a good day!

  • Awesome landing maybe an departure from EDDL would be also very cool and I have a question when do you know when to start descent do you wait for the ATC or do you a formula?

    @namikaze8776@namikaze8776 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for watching and your detailed feedback! I keep your request for a Dusseldorf-departure in mind. When we fly to the larger airports with a crowded airspace, ATC usually tells us when to descent. Nevertheless, we constantly track our path because in general we would like to do an idle descent until the stabilization height during the approach. We compare in our brains the remaining flight distance to the actual altitude. If we are approaching the optimum descent path and ATC did not clear us for a descent, we ask. The flight management system also shows if we are high or low on the approach profile. But this works only if the entered routing is not longer or shorter than what we really fly. Rule of thunb for a 3 degree descent is that you take the expected flight distance and multiply with 300. 10 Miles/3000 feet. 30 miles/9000 feet. 50 miles/15000 feet. All for no wind. Have a nice day!

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
    • @@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thank you for the detailed answer! So the formula doesn’t exist that the first 2 digits of your cruise flightlevel multiple by 3 equals the distance to descent?

      @namikaze8776@namikaze8776 Жыл бұрын
    • @@namikaze8776 That works somehow too. Start with your standard 10 miles and 3000 feet. Thats the basis. That would be Flightlevel 30. Multiplied by 3 would be 9 miles with your formula. Thats coming close. I would use 3.3, then you end up more precise. This are all rules of thumb. And there is wind which needs to be taken into account. The FMGS is doing all that, as long as the entrred wind and routing is correct.

    • We came from the UK, passed the area of Amsterdam airport and - if I remember right- were cleared direct Bottrop NDB as we were still in the Netherlands airspace. We entered an approach via Bottrop. Then we were cleared to DL455. Not far from the LOC centerline, we got an intercept heading from ATC. This was all direct. No charted routings or STAR.

  • At 12:00 the FO asked something that I was not able to understand, and the Captain pushed some buttons, and then some ATC message could be heard I also did not understand, which was not acknowledged by the FO. Was this a replay of a taped previous ATC message?

    @karljunk6373@karljunk6373 Жыл бұрын
    • Question from the FO to ATC was „May we fly to Metma“. Metma is the final approach point for the ILS approach. ATC denied that and wanted us to continue „I call you back for inbound turn in 2 miles“ was the answer from ATC. The FO confirmed that he understood the message with „Roger“ to ATC. So we had to continue as previously cleared. I assume that this was due to traffic in the area of Essen Muelheim airport which was located between us and the Metma wayoint. Have a nice day!

  • At 19:00, ATC appears to grant takeoff clearance to another plane before you have fully vacated the runway. It only took you another 10 seconds to get clear, so is it normal procedure for ATC to anticipate your movements like this?

    @matthewwakeling4978@matthewwakeling4978 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for watching and your observation. In general, most countries or even local regulations differ a little bit from each other. For this regulation, I remember something like that when the preceding airplane passes a certain point on the runway and is moving, they are allowed to clear an airplane to land or takeoff on this runway. Maybe an ATC controller can give us some more details.

    • no. The yellow area is V(a) Prot reaching down to V(a) Max. And the red area is for stall speed if I`m not mistaken. But it's definitely not 10 knots away from stalling.

      @Kactus479@Kactus479 Жыл бұрын
    • No, it is not slow. And you are wrong about the stall speed. Vref is about 1.23 Vstall. The approach speed target is even higher than that with a 5 knots addition + ground speed mini calculation ….. During flight in normal law (which we normally do when everything works fine), there is no stall speed indidation on the PFD. The lowest indication you see is the red band. Where it starts, it marks Vamax. Thats is the speed giving us the maximum angle of attack possible in normal law. The Airbus will not fly slower than this speed and at that speed, the airplane will not stall. The final conclusion is here: With a view of the PFD in normal law, there is no stallspeed indicated somewhere. I hope that helps to understand this a little more.

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
    • @@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you for the explanation. It was just a bit strange for me to see such a low final approach speed, as I usually see 135-140kts VREFs, probably because the aircraft is significantly heavier (Landing Weight). What was the weight of A319 here?

      @Pe11ePD@Pe11ePD Жыл бұрын
    • @Pe11e I do not remember the weight. But a Vref of 135 to 140 would be right for a heavy 320 or a 321. You won't see 135 to 140 at a 319 under normal circumstances. Please do not mix up Vref, Vapp and the PFD approach speed target. The approach speed target on the PFD may be 140 or more, also on the A319. Especially if the headwind on the ground is much lower than the current headwind during the approach.

  • Wieso landet man mit 120 kts ist das nicht zu wenig oder kam Wind von hinten?

    @erony2336@erony2336 Жыл бұрын
    • Die Anfluggeschwindigkeit ist völlig korrekt. Der Wind kam von der Seite. Basis ist die Stallspeed oder Überziehgeschwindigkeit des Flugzeuges bei dem aktuellen Landegewicht. Die wird mit 1.23 multipliziert. Dazu kommt normalerweise noch ein Zuschlag von 5 Knoten. Weitere Zuschläge ergeben sich eventuell aus dem Wind. Bei diesem Anflug war das Flugzeug relativ leicht. Wenn wir schneller fliegen würden, würde sich die Landestrecke unnötig verlängern.

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
