  • Crosby is 591-1000-1591. Has played 1269 games for a 1.254 points per game. If he played as many games as Ovechkin (1423) he’d have roughly 663 goals and 1121 assists for 1784, which would be 6th all time for points and 7th for assists. That’s also being generous because the points per game is over his whole career, and this missed time would’ve likely been during his more offensive dominant years with his concussions. He’d already be top 5 all time in points most likely.

  • You've said as much before, but I'm glad you qualify the *greatest of all time* debate as opinion here. I'm a Lemieux guy. I think Lemieux was better than Gretzky. And some people will immediately go, "But just look at Gretzky's insane point totals!" But if that's it, just point to the stats and go, "This one's a lot higher, so that settles it," then there's nothing to even talk about... ever, with anybody. To me, when you look at what Lemieux _did_ do, and the circumstances under which he did it, that's more impressive than what Gretzky did. But that's just my opinion. As for where Crosby will end up, I'm not sure. Depends on two things, I think: How much longer Crosby wants to play, and what Dubas is able to surround him with. It's going to be a struggle to keep the Penguins competitive. Even now, they're only in the playoff mix because Crosby has willed that into existence. But he's going to need guys around him to draw away coverage, both on his own line and down the lineup. If Dubas can at least lighten Crosby's burden a little over the remainder of his career, I think Crosby could get into the 1,900 point range.

    • @@matthewdaley746 Guentzel had to go, I think. He was giving everyone the boo-boo face in interviews and stuff. But he's going to get paid this summer. It was the case before. But even more so with all the points he's put up in Carolina. Any doubt that Crosby was inflating his point totals are likely already put to rest. He'd have liked to stay in Pittsburgh... as long as it was at his price tag. And I don't begrudge Guentzel for wanting to cash out. This is probably his only chance. But let's not pretend that he would've given the Penguins a steep discount to stick around. If that'd been true, he would've been signed to that kind of deal long before the deadline. And on the Penguins end, even as good as Guentzel is, I'm not sure signing a soon-to-be 30 year old to an expensive longterm deal is a smart move. I think Dubas was smart to get whatever he could for him, while he could.

However after that it will take 2-3 seasons to pass Lemieux, Yzerman & Dionne in points and Assists in same time span he could end up 7th, passing Joe Thornton. 2. In goals scored, Crosby with a fine next season could go from 21th to 16th place next season = passing Jari Kurri, Dino Ciccarelli, Bobby Hull, Joe Sakic & Jarome Iginla as long as he has a 34 goal season!

  • Crosby is a top ten player all time for sure. It is easy to argue he is a top five player. And it can be argued he is as good as Gretzky, just in a lesser era. My opinion: 1. Gretzky, 2. Lemieux, 3. Crosby, 4. Howe, 5. everyone else on this list. McDavid may reach the top 3 on my list. He may eclipse Crosby because of the injuries. It seems almost certain he would take 5, if not 4. He may end up number 1.

  • One thing about Mario: I'd actually argue that he played closer to the "correct" number of games than it appears - if he doesn't retire the first time, then he wouldn't have felt the need to come back the second time I bet (although of course a lot of that was trying to keep the team he owned financially viable). The back injuries / cancer issues were another thing entirely, of course.

    • Mcdavid is nasty but clearly not good enough to bring team success, as crosby did. Mcdavid will probably end up in 2-3rd for all time points but will that really matter if he doesnt have a cup, hes only getting older from here on out and going into his 10th season

    • In terms of skill/dominance I agree. McDavid has been in a league of his own for about 8 years, I don’t know how some people think he isn’t one of the greats.

    • @mcj44 Yeah, I'm basing my pick off of eye test, reason, and simple deduction. I'm not a McDavid stan (Crosby is my favorite), but I dont need him to prove anything to be that he's one of the best players I've ever seen. Now he's gotta win a Stanley Cup, but I don't think he retires without winning at least one. He's got plenty of time.

  • The mtn should be based on generation. Like 25-30 year period. And the cut off is when they get the majority of points. 2000-2025 will be McD mackdog and Makar for sure. Others are debatable. And the mtn needs like 6 spots. But for all time best? It’s relative to seasons played and early retirement etc. so Mario is for sure on the all time mtn. Even at 25 Makar is there too for production milestones for most points and skill to 300 pts etc. he’s truly a once in many gens kind of player. Like 3-4. Or 100 years. And I’d say the same for Gretzky lemouix and McD. Mackdog might get there if he stacks this seasons #s for a handful of years… the avalanche is for sure a great team to be a fan of. And starting to watch hockey in 95 was insane. At a young person. Remember staying up till 2-3am in Florida watching a 0-0 game in the 3rd ot. If I remember it was vs FL and a sweep or something. Insane. Edit: got it right! Had to look… what a team. And then took 25 years off and started watching again in 19’ I think. 18’ maybe. Disappointing playoffs but gotta see Nate and the core develop as players into what they are now. And 22’ was very special of course. Just silly hockey all season and playoffs. So damn good. And this years team if healthy is deeper. Kadri is not replaceable but we’re all hoping mitts finds 5th gear for the playoffs and everyone plays to their potencial. Stacked team for sure

  • Crosby is easily top 10 all time players and arguably top 6. When it comes to playmakers, McDavid is hands down best in the league… the list of assist per games players can be counted on one hand with fingers to spare. kucherov is a solid #2. Oilers fans who claim Draisaitl is a top playmaker are delusional… he is the king of giveaways, and the worst passer of the top 30 offensive players in the league. This is from an Oilers fan here…

He's been injury free for a while but one more major concussion and this could impact his health big time in the future. CTE and dementia will happen to him eventually if he sustains another one. Great on him for getting the 1000 and hope he stays healthy.
