  • Completely agree on your discussion regarding barriers to entry in the aviation industry. My personal experience is that private aviation training is prohibitively expensive. When I got my PPL, it was completely self-funded. Going into my instrument training was really an eye opener as the complexity and mastery of flying is just so much expensive that it was difficult to justify. Not to mention type ratings for different aircraft. In my experience, flight training in general was vastly more complicated than I had ever anticipated. However, the mastery of the craft is so rewarding that its hard to imagine my life before being a pilot. If we need more pilots, we need to make the barrier to entry dramatically cheaper. The government subsidizes so many other silly things, I think pilot training should be something that our government should readily assist those who want to take advantage of pilot training. Folks who want to learn to fly should be able to do it without the prerequisite being multi-millionaires.

    • Yup! Even down to the maintenance side just like they said. All companies these days complain about labor shortages yet NOBODY is willing to train from the ground up anymore. They expect you to pay tens/hundreds of thousands out of pocket for putting yourself through various schools. WHEREAS back when my boomer dad was young and worked at an airfield as a summer job in between college semesters (made good money too), they would take any knucklehead off the streets that showed any interest/aptitude and TRAIN THEM! Guess what? No labor shortages back then like we have now!!! DOY!!!

    • I got all my ratings in the late 80's. Cost was about $35K. Substantially lower than today but compensation has changed drastically. I spent 2 1/2 years as a flight instructor for $1,400 a month. Then at the regionals for 5 years flying turboprops for $2,000 a month. Training costs now are in the neighborhhood of $100K. Now as soon as you get your ATP a regional will hire you with a signing bonus, put you in a jet and pay you $75K+ a year. It can be done.

    • It’s also structural efficiency. The wings are already strong, so putting engines on them is a bit easier than suspending them at the back. But long range Jets seem to benefit from aerodynamics having them at the back.

  • While you were talking about the engine maintenance program, EMC2, (at 9:25 in the video) an aircraft can be seen out of the front windscreen flying substantially higher than the Honda Jet. All you can see is the contrail. The reason I am asking is because you were at FL410 and the aircraft visible through the windscreen had to be at FL550 to FL600. That is very high for an aircraft to be flying and must be military as no commercial or GA aircraft can reach that altitude. Did you see this aircraft and do you know what it was?

    @dr.strangelove7739@dr.strangelove77393 ай бұрын
    • Actually they weren't yet level at FL410. 10:04 and look to the PFD you can see they're just about crossing through FL350 in the climb. So that was probably just some other jet crossing in the upper 30s.

  • Cost is the Biggest. Obstacle for anyone interested in becoming a commercial pilot. In my 20s i tried to find fundung but had no luck. I stuck to my uni and graduated. Over the years I have met some who had enough money for fligh school. Got Their commercial license, but ran out of funding to get the 1500hrs to get a decent job. They quit the Profession. It was better back when every country had 1 national airline. They would fund your training and in return you had to work for a number of years after getting ur licence.

I am now 51 years old and just retired after 30 years as a Fire Lieutenant. I really want to get back to my dream of being an airline pilot. I work for Fidelity Investments and spoke to a gentleman the other day that fly's for American Airlines. He told me not to give up my dream and I have plenty of time left to fly. I just found your channel and am looking for any advice you could give me. I also have a small KZhead channel but mine is just geared on helping people with things I have figured out how to fix etc. I hope you respond and can point me in the right direction to finally live out my dream. Thank you Mojo. :)
