    • @@nickgrant2625 Nope. Alex has his wrestling which neutralized Max's striking, you dimwit. Volkanovski won the 2nd fight because of Wrestling - Max was cautious about that which opened up Max's striking defense. That and Volkanovski won the first fight off of Leg Kicks. 🤔 So how does that make him a better *Boxer* than Max?

    • @@nickgrant2625 Volk’s initial martial arts base is literally Greco & his striking offense is explicitly kickboxing - his most frequently utilized combos either begin or end off with a lead calf kick or low kick. Jay Luis is correct.

  • Well done. Ifl there are obvious similarities but at the end of the day MMA and boxing are diff sports. I think this is the first time I saw a boxer acknowledge that in his breakdowns. He points out about knees and kicks and elbows and td's and says things like, "This is as close as you can get to boxing technique while still considering the other weapons you have to worry about." Spot on. I like his chill, open personality too. Gr8 stuff

    • Not to mention, the little gloves make it easier to sneak shots past the guard or force your way through. In boxing, you have to really set stuff up if you want to land anything at all, against a higher level opponent.

  • Yea, that's what people had been saying about Nick Diazs boxing for years, and guess what? It worked very well for a long time in MMA.

    @LimitedHandles@LimitedHandles Жыл бұрын
    • Nick Diaz DOES have pretty poor fundamentals, it's just that he knows it himself and makes it work by forcing a context where it does. He does those long whippy hooks but also combines them with shots down the middle to manipulate an opponent's guard. The more half assed punches also work because of the small gloves that can add a lot of pain to the body shots, so he's fine with sacrificing leverage just to reach around an elbow to hammer at the ribs. He also sacrifices torque to throw same-side combos really quickly, making the punches weak, but they do the job of filling the space while he loads up the same side for a harder blow, or attacks from the other side. It is not incorrect to say his boxing is not very good, but the way he takes those tools and carves out all those iconic wins is what truly makes him great. It is a disservice to simply describe him as a really good boxer, because his overall game is much more sophisticated than that, in its own ugly but effective way.

    • @@vertigo10yearsago25 who knows if he ever had the potential? The way Nick Diaz is, I'm not sure if any other style could have translated his own preferences and insecurities into anything effective. Also, the main obstacle to his style was his lack of wrestling defense, and his inability to cut off the cage against someone with good ring craft. His boxing attack in terms of punch form and shot selection was fine for what it tried to do, his deficiencies elsewhere were the real problem.
