Is my phone listening to me? We tested it, here's what happened

Just about everyone who uses popular social media apps like Facebook and Instagram can tell you an anecdote about advertisements popping into their feeds that are so acutely targeted to them it’s like the apps are listening to their conversations.
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has called it a ‘conspiracy theory’ that the app accesses the microphone on a person’s phone to listen to conversations and, in turn, target news feeds with related ads.
But it happens so often to people that it gives even the least conspiracy-minded pause, people like WWL-TV Photojournalist Adam Copus.

    • @@Veritas-invenitur Actually, with all the information Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon have on you, it's not that tricky to predict what you'll be thinking BEFORE you've even thought it. Consider that human beings aren't so different, and they've info on how MILLIONS most like you--gender, age, politics, consumer preferences, income , psychological profile, neighborhood, etc.--will respond to a particular post, news item, or video meme. With that info in hand, they can, if they choose, even steer your choices more and more into a sort of silo unchallenged agreement, including a prepetual state of alarm. Polarizing and radicalizing people is good for their business model. Keeps 'em coming back for more.

Knows when you set your phone down and/or are busy working and throws ads knowing you won't be able to skip them. I've replicated this 100s of times. They hear absolutely everything and will learn the machines your running if you do. Once it recognizes that particular sound it will go to ads. You chose to believe the sensors of your phone rather than your own senses. You are putting the telephone above you, morally, socially... Just ask old folks how they managed without "smartphones" and learn from them, before they all die and Klaus Schwab makes us eat the bugs. A couple days later I'm talking with him on the phone about whether or not we should have more kids. The next day I'm getting video recommendations such as "Why I Stopped Having Kids" or "Is it Worth Having Kids?" I have never searched for anything to do with that at all. • Aye, the extent of accuracy possible from "Big Data" collections via Cookies, (digital) fingerprints and (shadow) profiles is kinda creepy - and apps don't need to "listen in" via microphones or the cameras, when they can track our Online Behavior on Social Media and all kinds of websites we're using. And any "free" service is paid for with exactly that data - recently, more and more News Websites even block users, who use ad-blockers for exactly that reason: they don't get paid, if they cannot show you "personalized ads" - which are, of course, based on all those trackers, cookies and fingerprints in the back of our Browsers and Apps. When people say that, they just show the level of their own ignorance about the intrusion of their privacy, that takes place with the accumulated information from little "drops" of data (click by click). But each little "drop" of information adds to a more complete (psycholical, social, political, etc.) profile of us - even here on KZhead (Google as its owner is no exception). So, the only free stuff is OpenSource Software, but it wouldn't generate money on its own. So, personal information of our surfing behavior is part of the income of most "big players" out there these days. Yet, I'm not sure, that is all "harmless ad-targeting", since it could be used for a lot more than this, too. - And in more autocratic Political Systems and Societies, it actually is these days (see China's Social Scoring System, for example). P.S./Edit: That's why the Chaos Computer Club also recommends to create at least one "Online Persona" for all non-governmental Online-Interactions, so we don't use our *actual* Personal Data and preferences online. - It's a pretty practical Life-Hack and relatively easy. Just don't get mixed-up with yourselves, if you're having more than one ^_^.

    • I woke up in the morning about a year ago, sat bolt upright and said 'wierdo dreams'. As I turned to step off of my side of the bed my dog was lying right alongside of the bed, and I noticed he was sound asleep. I step over him without waking him, then I go into the living room and open my phone. There was immediately an advertisement for something which I did not catch. In the still photo was a sleeping dog with a thought bubble above his head that said 'wierdo'. As I have been well aware of this phenomenon for some time I went to take a screenshot - and the ad disappeared from the screen that fast, never to be seen again. I have watched for it, as I wanted to screenshoot it. I wondered if it even is a real ad, or was it a combined construct of my still dreaming mind and the phone (which was next to the bed that night). I believe they are monitoring and manipulating dreams also. A microwave oven blocks all signals coming in and going out. Use an unplugged microwave oven to avoid accidental catastrophic failures 😲. I carry an old microwave in my vehicle and you can use one to store your cell phones and other electronics at home or anywhere. A bit bulky perhaps but 100% effective. Works like a Faraday cage. I had an older model android phone that was going goofy after spending a couple of days in the microwave. I saw that it kept trying to connect to something over and over again after i had removed it. That incident was several years ago, and I am getting on in years now. Good luck kiddies... you will need the power of God to stop this.

That sentence you’re talking about is on my page too and i see it just about everyday. Did you want to see a movie and then went to KZhead? Or did you see the sentence on KZhead enough times until you “spontaneously” wanted to watch a movie and KZhead had that saaaame old sentence there but at the right time? Keep track of things like this. They’re definitely listening but your thoughts should still be relatively safe. I immediately picked up my other phone and keyed in the address (without the unit number) and yet Google maps added the unit number BY ITSELF. Yes, my phone was listening to me. I have no doubt.

I was on the internet looking at Instagram KZhead Google, I was alone so I was not speaking but I was constantly pushing my glasses up because they were sliding down. I started receiving advertisements for those things that you wear around your neck and connect to your glasses so that you don't lose them. I have never in my life searched for them purchased them wanted them or considered wearing them, I never spoke about them. I probably needed them, and I was so shocked to see multiple ads about them that I contacted my son to ask if it's possible that somehow I could be seen readjusting my glasses. Makes one wonder...

Although popular in the 80's, that tune is fairly obscure these days. 10 minutes later, I hop on youtube and type in the search bar "You're" only to have "You're the best around" auto suggested to me. Picked up my phone, same thing. Seriously, typing in "You're" could've meant a billion things, but my phone and computer just happened to know I intended to type in the words of that relatively obscure song from the 80's...🤔 My wife grabbed her phone which was in the back room and typed "You're" and got nothing close to that song.

Then a short time after that I see ads on Facebook for the US Mint and the different coins they sell. I did not google anything about coins or use my phone in any way at all to look up information about coins or the US Mint but my phone was laying there on the desk while we were talking about coins from the US Mint. I knew that if I searched online for something that I would probably see ads for it afterwards, that happens all the time but I was not aware that my phone was listening to me and giving me ads based on what it heard.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made the flat earth theory popular as well. Question everything and look for the information yourself, you'd be surprised what you might find through declassified information. I would not recommend Google. DuckDuckGo is alright but it seem to be somewhat compromised as well, this is why it's a good idea to search over multiple different search engines. They have also begun to limit access to physical books such as those from libraries of universities depending on where you are and now suggest to go digital which isn't always available anyway nor 100% accurate in its recordings of these physical copies. As the government grows in power and corruption, they have more control over history. Notice how they love to shove Wikipedia articles under certain KZhead videos whenever discussing something rather, "controversial." Beware of bias fact checkers, don't allow the mainstream media to think for you. Censorship is already out of control but most people won't care until it happens to them and by then it may be too late. We're all too busy fighting and hating each other to notice as much, our division benefits them; we'd be so much stronger standing together. I hope to see this change for the better someday.

The closest you can get to a non-google non Microsoft platform is dedicated software over a private server such as Bank software however all high function software must be pc-centric aka IBM clone so if the truth is out there it does not support high level programming and hey Google can still track you from viewing the secret documents on your prepritary flip phone because of ipv6 and DNS which without hi function code would be unchangeable by VPN or DNS software unless you had a custom-made flip phone with custom IPv6 and custom DNS that were completely privately owned by whoever has the so-called truth but good luck getting internet on truthful flip phone because I assume it would have to be a wired connection.

    • @Keyser Söze Tor is special because he uses the same script as chrome browser however some random guy in a basement will spy on you and steal your credit card instead of a large corporation like Google because the deep Web is just a website that has an outdated SSL so you basically have no protection on a deep weband most of the things that you can buy on the deep Web are fake like boxes of garbage with tampons.

  • Now it's getting even creepier. Sometimes I think about something very specific (a movie scene, a song, a dish...) and in a short time the exact movie scene, the song and the recipe would appear in my feed. They are abusing us. I don't know how are they reading our minds, but they are. I took special attention to it to see if it was just coincidence, but no, it is not.

  • I dont see this yet on my smart phone, but I do see related ad items pop up do to my online shopping habits or a movie I watched and they somebody comes back and says, how did you like the movie?? Some ad popup things I get are from something I briefly looked at and had no intention of buying the item. So every spam ad message is based around online activities and seems to be getting smarter on what we do all the time. It is like "Big Brother" is listening/watching us.

  • Friends of mine, in the privacy of their home, with no one within hearing distance, started talking about buying a new car. They decided on a Ford pickup. The next day, on their phones, tablets and computers, they were inundated with ads for Ford pickup trucks. They narrowed these ads down to the fact that their phones were sitting on their coffee table while they discussed buy a new truck the night before. Their phones were listening to their conversation, and adjusted their media ads accordingly.
