Chip is a first time mom and doing absolutely amazing. We were lucky to see her going into labor so we left a phone recording on her cage. She ended up giving birth to 11 healthy babies!

The sweetest thing is when the good mamas contractions come closer each time she bears to push she bears herself by pushing her little hands against the wall/cage . Aww poor mama, 🥰

At work watching this preparing myself for when I get home my sweet girl is in labor it's her first and I'm really excited but also scared videos like these help so much.
I know this was almost a year ago but did it go smoothly?
@@madheretic4423 it ended up being boing both of my girls I rescued pregnant it it went really well, my hairless rat wasn’t producing milk for a short period of time but with supplements like soy milk she was good, one mom had 8 babies all boys and I kept two and my hairless girl had 7babies one passed very early on and he was the only hairless, I ended up keeping all 6 3 boys and 3 girls exactly who are all doing well, I actually started partnering with a rat rescue and I foster rats currently, we just had 2 moms with 5 babies come in a week ago from the worst situation, one of the babies is special needs so I decided to keep/ adopt her and both moms are staying with me too, it was a huge rescue, both dads, moms and 5 babies. I remember watching this video super scared but excited as I hadn’t rescued rats since my girls passed away and then both of the new girls were pregnant it felt like a miracle I feel like it’s the reason I keep going, to give rats who were meant to be fed live to a snake the best life I can possibly give them. I know this may not be the short response you were looking for but it’s the shortest I could give :)

This is the sort of birth you go to the vet for, so many contractios without pups being born can mean pre-eclampsia

@@kaiwainscott2474 she also started nesting that morning, she didn't give birth till the next night but if shes made a nest, or is making one expect babies within the next few hours! She gave birth at 1 am on a Tuesday her babies will be 4 weeks old next Tuesday ❣️

Probably because it didn’t show any babies. This was going to be one of the best videos I’ve ever seen but then it ended without showing the babies so it went from being one of the best videos I have ever seen to one of the absolute worst

Rat moms are so amazing. I had a rattie who had a litter of no less than 15 babies, and she was such a champ about it - made sure they were all well fed and properly introduced to her cagemate and me. Dragged my hand into her cage like, "look what I made!!" Bunch of absolute snugglebugs. When they were just about done with milk they would swarm over her cagemate for company - especially the hooded ones; the cagemate was a hoodie. "One of us! One of us!" They're all long gone now, but I still have the occasional dream of when one or two of them (all grown up, mind you) would make a jailbreak out of their cage just to scramble into my bed as if they weren't already set up well enough where they were with their huts and hammocks and all that. Definitely a unique experience half-waking-up at 5 in the morning with ratties in your bed. One of them even liked to plunge her head into my mouth like she was performing some kind of lion taming act, or maybe she was just an aspiring dentist. When we were goofing around, mind you, not while I was fast asleep thankfully. Oh what a bunch of squidgy frickin' snugglebugs.
How do i know if my rat is pregnant? Shes a small rat so idk if its the same for regular rats

@@georgiemillman3921 i dont think i can have one i can try to ask into it but i already have rabbits ducks chickens and a dog wild rats i hate but domestic rats i like i dont think i can get them my family doesnt wanna take the risk
@@thebatman7344 they are actually very intelligent and clean animals, you can train them to use a litter box and teach them tricks

rats can have anywhere between 1-32, though thats bare minimum, and world record numbers there. the average in a rat litter is between 8-13, most rats in my experience have had 9-11.

I can only imagine but I think they know what's happening. Biggest fear I have is to give birth one day even though I want children
well labor is not painless... but i think the most impressive part is they just know what to do without anyone telling them.

How do I know if my rat is going into labor?!?
you dont unless you happen to catch it and see the contractions. but you should leave them be while in labor, they know what to do.
i use to breed rats for my snakes but ive downsized on the amount of reptiles i have so i also got rid of most my colony. since my snakes i do have left eat frozen, i decided not to breed my rats for a bit a give my girls a couple weeks or more to just relax. well i recently bred two of my females, and its their first litters as well. Coffee Bean, the older one is about to have a relatively normal sized litter, most likely 10-13 which is an average for most of my breeders. but Jesse on the other hand is new to the family, and damn does she have genes. she is so round and actually finally in labor right now, but i assume she will have 16-18 babies. back when i was a beginner breeder i had two sister rats who were pregnant at the same time, one had nine babies, the other had 21, both their first litters. just thought i'd share my rat babies stories,
