Small Scale Mice Breeding｜Baby Mice Growing Up | 5 Days Before Birth - 28 Days Old
I recorded my mice breeding process, from 5 days before the female mouse give birth to the day the babies are 28 days old. In this video, I hope I covered everything you need to know, you can see some interesting behaviors of the mice, and most of all, WATCH THE BABIES GROW UP!
Feel free to ask me any questions about mice breeding, I will answer them as best as I can. I am not an expert at this, but I have some valuable experience that I am able to share with you. I failed at first attempt, if you are interested in what happened, let me know, maybe I can make a video about it, failed experience is also valuable experience, right?
💡【The optimal breeding age is when the mouse is at least 12 weeks old, this greatly increases the chance of a safe delivery of healthy babies. The oldest age a female should be bred is around 8 months.
A doe should be not be re-introduced to bucks until around a month after giving birth to allow full recovery. Also, does should not have more than 3 litters in a lifetime, exceeding this number of litters can affect their health and lifespan, along with the babies of future litters.
Every 5 days or so female mice are on heat. The gestation period of mice is 21 days on average, with litter size being around 10-12 babies. 】

A few years back ago, my female mouse name Pixie (brown coloured)unexpectedly gave birth to her 6 baby mice. Me and my friend discovered them until they reached 4 days of age. She and I didn't know that they were even born until 4 days later. My friend laughed and found the discovery of them funny. She said in a loud whisper, "Oh, look! Babies!" I thought I had 2 adult female pet mice and one of them turned out to be a male one (black coloured one) name Ricky instead of Dixie. My friend told my dad about the discovery of the 4 day old mice and his eyes got real big. He said that we got more than what we bargained for. We separated Ricky from Pixie. We took Ricky back to replace it for Dixie (the true female black and white coloured one) after me and my dad gave them up for adoption. I found out online that Pixie's baby mice were 4 boys and 2 girls. That good unexpected baby mice story of mine occurred about a month before my birthday.

Awe ❤ I’m currently doing a study on wild mice, pet store mice, and mice from breeders. Currently getting the wild mice set up (got to catch them all) I only have 2 wild mice right now once I get the amount I need then I’ll be going to the pet mice comparing the two showing taming process for all

They age so quickly
My pet mouse just had 4 babies and I am unable to keep them. I will keep them for the 3 or so weeks for them to nurse but after that I dont have the space for them any suggestions on where I could take them? Thanks for the video. It looks like thier tub is a drawer storage cart. If so, do you do any precautions to prevent escape or had any issues with escaping?
No we put extra barriers in the back to prevent it.

I don’t know why~ the mother died a few days after giving birth, the babies died not long after that.

@@lawrencezenvlogs2381 I don't know how much you've learned about breeding with mice since posting this video (as this video was posted 2 years ago), so I don't know if you by now know this yourself, but mother mice can die shortly after giving birth (in the first few days) due to birth complications or the stress from having babies. It often can't be prevented in these cases.

I’ve had mice before and split them up at 21 days but I have a new litter and there 21 days and they are still drinking moms milk is that normal
So if your mouse just had her babies, but you need to switch out the bedding, what do you do? I worry about removing them... I'm planning for a new cage (critter nation wrapped in 1/4" spaced mesh wire) but they're only a few days old.
I take the Mother out first and put her in a new bin with new bedding and then I move the babies one by one.

My girl has 9 babies too but I kept the father with her as he helped her clean and keep them warm. They haven't opened their eyes yet.
Female will be pregnant within 24 hours of giving birth if you keep the male with her the only drawback . Often it’s better to have to female sisters together

What type of mouse do you have?
I got them from the reptile store. They’re feeder mice.
my mother mouse just separated the 9 day old babies into 2 groups. is this okay? any reason? should i try to put them back together? im worried she’s not feeding both groups equally
It’s normal, don’t worry, she separated them because she wants every baby be able to reach and eat. Because she don’t have enough titties to feed them all at once, she’ll feed them in turns.

Juss a preference removing the dad can stress them out n also the dads will help tend to the babies as well
The dad was biting the moms until they were bleeding, looked like they were fighting or something... so we removed him.... 🐍
That's actually not ideal at all. The father could possibly help care for the babies, but he can also impregnate the mother mouse mere hours after she has given birth which is very unhealthy for her body (it takes a lot of energy and fats) and is thus also a risk for the pups. It's best to keep two female/sister mice together so they can tend the babies without a male present. Males always chase the females to mate, whether their pregnant or have just given birth which is so stressful

how do u clean the tub out when theres fresh babies in there
if I have to clean the tub and can't wait, I would prepare a clean tub first, with shredded napkins, bedding, covers, water and food, then gently pick up the babies (or have them all on one big firm napkin and move them together at once) and move them to the clean tub, then I clean the dirty tub. Hope this answers your question 😊
my brother just found a baby mouse and im trying to save it so it doesnt die so im watching all the videos i can find on how to tell the age so i know what to do it has its eyes open but isn't confident walking i think hes 14 to like 15 days old do you know what i should do for him

@@JessPritch its probably still alive but since it wasn't confident walking i didnt put a lid on its tub and it escaped i dont even know how but it did

Since its eyes are open, definitely 14days or older. they can probably able to chew on vegetables and some nuts already.

Yeah they actually can! So make sure to check the perimeter every now and then.

I raised mice many years ago. My favorite momma mouse was Bonnie. I used to sell the weaned babies to the local pet stores. The loved my babies because I handled them early on and daily. When Bonnie was pregnant and we only had one cage at the beginning, the daddy mouse Clyde took up residence on top of a bookshelf. I put newspaper down and set up his food, water, wheel and bed. He loved it up there. He fell off a few times while I was working. I came home to him running across the floor to me to be put back up there. Clyde was never in a cage for the rest of his days. Tame, loved, handled and sadly short-lived as mice only live a few years. But we had MANY babies.

Ive built a 7ft coffin sized area from a wardrobe and put a 4ft clear plastic screen up (£45😮 ) , ive caught a very small one thats barely old enough to be away from the mother and a juvenile , they spend all the time hiding in the bedding + haven't bumped into each other yet i think . Ive put condense milk out for them water and cheese + sun floor hearts and buttered bread . Theres like 5 more loose running round my house and there not shy they stand watching me , they avoid my traps + and so fast they might actually teleport the first foot of travel 😂 , the bigger one trapped himself in my bath and baby literally walked into my hand 🤣. Will they bath if i put a 1'' deep ''pool'' in ? There kinda stinnky..

If you have a good relationship with your mice it can be ok. Alot of people handle them right away to get them tamed, and other people say to not touch for 2 weeks. It just depends I think on the mother.
If they trust you enough, I guess yeah.

I just found another baby I just fed them both I bought kitten milk & they are both warm & are eating from a small paint stick & the 1 I found 3dys ago Is eating great every 2hrs I'm exhausted 😆 now they are 2ghr when I went feed the original 1 I found another 1 so I'm assuming their mom is gone but they definitely knew eachother doing flips & they both ate I'm only keeping them until I can release them is that possible? Or will they not know how 2 take care 4 themselves? I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!

All I'm thinking is neuter the male mice. Spaying female mice would be a bit too invasive. This isn't an insane thought. Look at the litter sizes! Yikes! Every month, potentially more and more mice! This is a most excellent video!!!!

My mouse had 14 babies! I tried to help alternate the babies & supplement with formula, and accidentally killed 7 of them with heating pad 😩
Yeah be careful make sure you get the kind of heat pads where you can adjust the heat
There’s no point to even have a heating pad. They are ok. Known to survive over 48 hrs in temps below freezing.

Ok yea so he’s not comforting her, he’s showing dominance. Intact males should never be housed with females especially pregnant females. You’re lucky she didn’t terminate the pregnancy naturally.
Don't hold a mouse by it's tail
It's perfectly fine to gently handle a mouse via their tail.
You can handle them via tail as long as you hold close to the base of the tail where it’s closest to their spine. Holding at the tip of the tail can cause injury.
You do realize that I own snakes right? I’m not keeping these as pets. 😅
