  • Oh, ffs... the 996 Turbo and 997.1 Turbo had ZERO issues with the IMS or bore scoring because they used the Hans Mezger GT1 motor which was completely different than the rest of the models, except for the GT3 variants.

    @normsallitt2753@normsallitt27537 ай бұрын
    • Indeed... So much talk about the IMS and the bore scoring... Yes it happens, but there are ways to reduce the risk. First the 2006 and onwards models were fitted with a bigger IMS to solve the early 997 and 996 issues there. Then, you can fit a lower temperature thermostat too, which can help reduce the bore score, as well as going easy with the car until it's at normal temperature and change the oil religiously too. When you read forums, everyone seems to be scared and affected, and of course some cars are affected, but most aren't! And the Gen 1 or Gen 1.5 997 turbo were fitted with the famous Metzger engine, which is bullet proof and mental. My best mate has one so I know exactly how it is👌

  • 996/997 Turbos, GT3's and GT2's had the Mezger engine that was not subject to the IMS bearing issue. Bore scoring only becomes an issue if you don't let your warm up before revving it up too high.

  • The 997.1 and also 997.2 are actually classed as supercars, the 997.2 turbo has 500BHP with close to a 3 second 0-60 in launch control mode, shame you didn’t mention the facelift model as has a completely different DFI engine rather than the Mezger.

  • My favourite 911? The 992 Turbo S. Best GT ever built by just about anyone. Beautiful understated lines yet unmistakably pure supercar. Phenomenal acceleration, great handling, comfortable ride and an inspiring flat-six wail that still manages to be quiet enough for motorway cruise.

    • I feel like we perhaps have different standards of "quiet enough for a motorway cruise" 😄 Also no rear boot is an issue. I love a 992 Turbo S, but I wouldn't say it's a particularly great GT - it's a great daily-usable supercar.

  • Absolutely love this vid!! I can't speak for much as I have a 924, my fav ever porsche is a 924 careera gt but 911? Has to be a 997 911 GT3! but Porsche really makes some incredible cars that are so underrated even if it's just a Carrera 2 or 4. My dad's friend has a 1989 911 turbo with just 12,000 miles on it, it's serviced every year at Porsche and he's been offered 300k trade in value which I think is absolutely insane but in some ways with the way cars are going and petrol prices and the incredibly rare opportunity I think 911s will be a great investment no matter what you go for

  • My favorite 911 is my 991.1 convertible C2S I bought used, I got lucky it has all seven buttons.Whoever SPEC ‘ed they did it like a GTS but not a GTS but I’m gonna call it a strong ”S” it of course has the PDLS, sport Chrono, sports exhaust, PDCC, Limited slip torque vectoring, 10 mm lower, and whatever sport plus benefits options it just seems to have everything 20 inch turbo rims and of course I love my PDK. and of course I’m a ragtop guy and the 991.one was the first year of the beautiful 911 coupe lines with the convertible top, the 997 just looked a little clunky in the transition of the roof to the back even though I think it’s a beautiful car. the 991 is just hands-down the first perfect silhouette convertible Porsche is put out. in my opinion other than it does ride a little stiff and I wish it had axle lift , with that it would be the only wish maybe they’ll do an aftermarket and it would be absolutely perfect with that one correction. Dream car!

  • I have a 2006 997 c2s with upgraded IMS and lower temperature thermostat and various other mods... It's a cracking car to look at, and a cracking car to drive. There are a few cars with bore score issues but only about 5% are affected so not a massive deal. And if it comes, do the work, bore it to 4l and supercharge it to have about 490 bhp... Money would be easily recouped. As for the 997.1 turbo, it's fabulous and with the Metzger engine it's bullet proof!!! And... The official 0-60 mph figure for the 997.1 turbo is way off... 3.8s becomes more like 3.4s... and some have even gone below that time too. Porsche's 0-60 figs are often very conservative...😂🧐 If this car is not a supercar, what is??!!?!?! My best mate has one and it's the only car to ever scare me, because its speed is not something you are used to, at all.

  • My favorite is the one I can hopefully afford in a couple years, a 991.1 S or 4S. With all Porsche it’s about mileage and special models but for the money the last NA engined 911 is my choice for best performance for dollar while still being a somewhat analog car. Of course there are other models I’d choose if I were wealthy but I’m not, but this car is still quite modern looking and performs very well. Prices are not falling like most other cars but as th economy crumbles I’m hoping they’ll fall a little bit. I’d get one now but gotta pay off the 981BoxS first hahaha

Drove a 997 C2S on track, but the tyres/brakes were screwed so that put me off those (although now I like the 997 generally). I feel like a 991 C2S is probably actually what I'd want to drive most, but I'd get most excited about seeing a 993 GT2 so I'm going with that.

  • A 964 turbo (the one Will Smith drove in the original Bad Boys) would be a lovely thing to own. I'd be very happy with one. I had a Basalt Black 996 C4 for around 15 years. Really shouldn't have sold it, it was a bloody lovely car and remains the best driving car I've owned - the only thing I felt let it down was the gearbox (I've always driven manuals, and the Honda S2000 I had previously to the Porsche, whilst simply nowhere near as a good a car, had an amazing "rifle bolt" precise gear box that I guess I've compared all other cars I've owned subsequently to). If I look to get into another Porsche it's likely to be either a 996 or 997 C4S.

    • In U.K. I’m seeing a very obvious softening of prices. Not uncommon to see £5K to even £20K knocked off cars which they’ve had since late summer. Just not being bought any more. Now, in my opinion, while it’s attractive if you’re considering entering 911 ownership, it’s not good if you’re an owner who paid overs when acquiring your vehicle. I’m new to Porsche, and I’m Catholic to model and variant. That makes me a bad customer because I am not going to fall in love instantly with a particular example, at which point you’ve not bargaining power. I’m looking to invest up to £100K in the most resealable car. I don’t mind if it’s a late 997, any of the 991s or potentially even a 992. My wife and I will hit this hard in a six week period from immediately after Christmas. Who buys a 911 in the middle of a British winter?

  • You will notice the 991.1 GT3 is the only GT3 selling below list and cheaper now than the previous 2 generations of GT3s that have well appreciated due to many issues with these cars. The choice to only offer a PDK gearbox was very unpopular with the GT3 community. Hence previous 997.2 GT3s jump immediately over their list prices when this car came put due to those wanting manuals. This was the car that Porsche sent letters to over 1000 owners to park their cars and not drive them due to catastrophic engine failures. Despite Porsche replacing over 1000 engines, they can still be prone to failure. As Porsche's first car with 4 wheel steering, the system was not tuned as well as later generations and car be quirky at times. This car lost the racing heritage of the previous cars. When this car came out, the GT3 RSR and Cup racing versions were still running Mezger engines as Porsche was not confident in racing the new 9A1 engine. They also never raced the PDK transmission. Race cars ran a true sequential manual gearbox instead. This is really the one GT Porsche to avoid. You would be better off putting a Cayman GT4 on your list which is lower in price, has a manual and is more reliable.

And the cheaper priced ones are often not stock, high mileage (80k+ miles), incomplete service hist, private sellers, terrible over-revs report (if manual), high number of owners. There's quite a variance in the UK prices for 997 Turbo's. Decent manual examples with around 30k miles probably are priced around £65-70k from specialists, and a decent Tiptronic prob closer to £55k. Nice cars.

  • If you are willing to spend $50k on engine rebuild, water and break lines, etc., then go for it. That's not including replacing and / or repairing interior seats and broken plastic components.

    • Your ego is as big as your enthusiasm, which can get in the way of clear thinking and basic understanding of the English language. Listen up man, just my opinion based on other presentations by KZhead mechanic reviews.

    • My statement was based on the KZhead video "Why you should never buy a Porsche 997, different than the Porsche you featured, however, will/could/probably/will need same issues fixed beyond engine rebuild. 0:02 easily fixed items are not repaired or replaced that should be done when the engine is dropped. Yes I am talking to myself, I'm the smartest person in the room.

    • @@paulcampise3050 You clearly aren't as smart as you seem to think as you meant to reply to me yet directed it at yourself... twice. You need to click on the little link that reads, 'Reply'. Try watching the upload again and see if you can work out why I made my original comment. I would comment more but you seem so full of yourself that I feel I would be wasting my time.
