  • The best part about Canibus is how open he is in this interview. No ego involved. Just self realization. He is open to feedback from people that didn’t even sell a record. Good stuff.

    • His first album just wasn’t good, unfortunately he didn’t get a second chance. By his second album he had already been written off. Canibus should’ve had Wyclef do 2nd Round K.O. and other producers like Premier or RZA do the rest. Maybe at a certain point, it wasn’t up to him if he was gonna get a major label budget and support.

  • This gonna sound crazy but a lot of the time (not all) people who came up playing instruments don't have that ear to make hard ass hip hop beats. They're usually too clean and perfect because that's what they learned. let it be known I'm not saying there are no producers like that but in general I believe this to be case and in this case I apply that to Clef. Canibus 1st album should of been like what they did with Nas Illmatic with Clef and some others A&Ring the overall album with Clef handling some production for the more mainstream tracks and to help with Canibus visibility in the market.

  • I love this interview and I really fat large respect and love for this podcast show for real, in Lagos Nigeria1998 every body my age into rap we’re all routing and waiting for the canines album to drop and when it dropped we listened and read all the reviews in the source magazine , Xxl and vibe magazines was all we did in my hood then at 17years old , it hurt is how the sales went with that debut album and how the media blamed Wyclef for it not going 500k first week and a platinum a week or two weeks after , wyclef did a great job but the universe didn’t just align for the album to be multi platinum sales from the gate another album that did what canibus would have been from the gate was 50cent , I guess Gods timing and grace also works with music , I still listen to honor , what’s going on till this date it takes me back to good ole days of teenagers reading the source magazines at the basket ball court in my hood in Lagos and arguing about rap music albums and writhing rhymes as well , bless you canibus and math Hoffa , Mecca, champ , Bigga and gat murdah all y’all make me nostalgic and happy here in Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

  • That story about Nas is real talk. Canibus in that freestyle session with DMX & Noreaga was crazy. Have no doubt Nas heard that and thought "I need to write some better shit". I still think Canibus freestyles and guest appearance verses was a major reason why so many rappers didn't collab with him. From 97-00 he was bodying anyone on a track and I just don't think the emcees at the top of the industry wanted to be outshined.

    • @@MastaInferno it's the real reason LL acted like a bitch. He heard the original 4-3-2-1 verse and couldn't have some new young rapped being the talk of the track. Stupid really when you hear people like Redman say canibus wasn't arrogant or trying to make others look stupid. Dude was just spitting flames as that's what we wanted to hear.

It's double platinum! 25th year anniversary. 'Clef didn't do a bad job the way that, Hip Hop went a bit little too hard, they never sat and thought for a second. Everyone said what Canibus could've been, but wasn't none of 'em tryin' to help except 'Clef".
