Unbelievable that this score was not nominated for an Oscar.
yes incredible, it was not nominated unfortunately, it was only nominated as best actress for Ellen Burstin, the mother of the Exorcist!!!! :)
Agreed. Hans Zimmer is also great….
This film too real for Hollywood...
The test of time already consecrated this as a masterpiece, this song was used and abused in so many videos, it will be replicated forever and ever, doesn't even need any awards.
Оскар не показатель, а вот сердца слушателей - это самая большая ценность для создателей этого шедевра
this is the most terrifying yet the most beautiful music I've ever heard...
Just like taking drugs...
@@topsi0130 damn...
really love this song but somnus nemoris sits on higher ground for me
I'm agree, this song scares the shit out of me, but it's incredibly well arranged and beautiful
The most terrifying thing to me is how tfu got 1.1k likes with only 5 replies.
I see a lot of comments of people saying, "I saw this movie once and won't ever watch it again." I've watched this movie at least 5 or 6 times since I first saw it a couple years ago. I get why people wouldn't want to watch it again, but it's such a sobering look at addiction. It's one of the best films ever made, in my opinion.
Totally agree- it’s a hard relate for me with this movie… so many should feel lucky they don’t understand
Drama is the only drug to humans
I watched it several times and even bought a copy. Even though I've never been an addict, it's one of my favorite movies.
I am with you, God bless you
they say that due to the fact that this movie it's just so crude, so unbearably real
The movie “requiem for a dream” was already a dark, raw and very true tale of addiction, then you add in this masterpiece to really set the mood. I wouldn’t wish addiction on my worst enemy. This movie should be played across every school as a deterrent to stay away from drugs.
Tbh the song is better than the movie lol
@@jessupawwyeah22 that’s not a knock on the movie though, just that the song is THAT damn good.
The movie is not about drugs It’s not about addiction either It’s about losing your dream bye taking the short cut
@@mahamodhassan2290 You’re kidding, right….?! I never said the movie was 100% on drugs or addiction, what I said was it’s a very true tale about addiction, which it is! It shows the beginning stages (the party stages, and how much fun it is) and gradually shows the slippery slope where they have to find their fix before they can even remotely function. The movie and book, absolutely show the true side of addiction. The movie shows what greed/desire can unfortunately do to you, and used drugs/addiction to portray it to the audience.
@@Ep0nz Okay
There is something very haunting about this track.
well...since I saw Requiem for a Dream, haunting is quite the understatement....

I once read a review, it says, _The movie is so good I'm never gonna see it for the second time_ . Really, listening to this theme alone brings back despair.
yeah right, some movies are so good they shouldn't be watched more than once, if it is, the purity and sacredness of its nature is disturbed
I agree. Don't think I can ever watch it again. It's that good.
There Is No Sandwich I watched these both multiple times really. But requiem for a dream and grave of the fireflies I watched once both. Saving private Ryan and green mile while sad are still hopeful. Requiem for a dream and grace of the fireflies are just downright depressing
I don't know what it is about this movie. I seen a lot of sick shit but this is the movie I will never watch a second time. The story of the mother is just too damn heart breaking

Battled addiction for 6 years and it took just about everything from me, but I came out on top. Now I'm clean for 4 years and doing good. This song immediately brought back every single moment of hopelessness and despair I felt in Kensington. Just, amazing.

I am from a small city of India and I don't have much insight on American culture. I always thought life in the first world countries would be a cakewalk. But after watching these kind of movies I got to realise that many people in developed countries as well live a miserable life due to their bad choices.
2024 New York is much, much, much darker and worse off than 2000 New York. It's becoming the closest thing we have to an undeveloped country at this point. Though most of the symbols of civilization and prosperity still remain, they are affordable for fewer and fewer. Unless you come here illegally, then they give you whatever you want. But don't tell anybody, we're full.

I only watched the movie at the cinema, once. The volume was so loud, I felt sick. It was a complete perfect experience. I do not want to taint that memory, so that one time will be the only time I watch it. At the start there was some young men behind me, bit loud, looked upper middle class. Snickering at the main characters use of drugs at the start. When the movie ended, not a single word was said. Snickering was long gone. Nobody actually said a word until we were outside. I felt like shit. By the looks on everyone else, so did they. Perfect.
This is still the most harrowing movie I have ever seen. It made me feel ill, not physically, but in my my psyche, and my soul, if that's really a thing. I always tell people how horrible it made me feel, and then for some reason I'm compelled to add "but it's SO well done, you should watch it".
Not seen this film but had same experience watching trainspotting. 3 girls behind, same class, snickering right up to the baby crawling on ceiling then silence.

There could never be a theme describing better how it feels when addiction drives you into insanity. Slowly, painfully, eventually... This is the soundtrack of a life falling apart. This is the theme of an existence burning to ashes. The soundtrack of a dream dying. The requiem for a dream.
Sehr gut beschrieben.

Pues ya tardas en mirarla

This piece of work translates all the ascending feeling of the dream, the anxiety of the struggle to rise, and the explosion of decadence that we can see in the movie. Awesome theme!

The twenty+ years which have passed since Mansell composed this piece have been extremely kind. Each note, each tone, each pause, each beat, all the elements have been enriched by the sunshine it receives when performed. Like wine, LUX ÆTERNA, continues to mature into a richer, fuller, more robust reaction in the ear, heartstrings react, accordingly.
Legendary film and legendary music that will lose a lot for those who don't watch it and can't take the viewer out for a long time.

The wailing trombone prys your soul open, and the sharp stings of the strings make it to the bone like scalpel slashes. The song is crying to you, but you imagine your own face. Everything was fine 30 seconds ago, but the dread creeping up your back and onto your shoulders makes you realize that you haven't thought about that thing in a while. That thing that is now glaring at you, screaming, begging to be resolved... So you cry out to the music, but it cannot hear you, because it wasn't made to listen to people.
