  • Hi Lisa! Fun fact- the reason you feel that “vibrating” sensation when you eat spicy foods is because it triggers the same pain receptors in your skin that react to heat, called polymodal nociceptors. These are pain fibers that exist all over the body. The spicy food excites those receptors and we feel the sensation of ‘tingling’ or ‘vibration’. 🙂

  • As a child I was afraid of eating those spicy noodles coz my spice tolerance was severely low. I admired the kids my age who willingly asked to have spicy noodles and foods for snack time though. Now I love spicy foods and I often look for spicy noodles in grocery stores. Younger me would be proud, though she'd be disappointed at the same time coz I only started eating spicy stuff before I finished college, which wasn't that long ago.

  • With so many people trying the spicy challenges I was trying to do as much research as I could about what works best for spicy food to calm the spice & this is what I found. Basically once you reach into these higher scoville ranges you're pretty stuck with the spice for about 20 min. The bread will help absorb any surface chili oils out of the mouth & everything remaining is only fat soluble so whole milk & ice cream will help break it up. The reason for the 20 minutes is because hot peppers cause a chemical reaction in the brain & the higher scoville brings a longer reaction because your brain thinks something is burning you which is why you make a ton of saliva, snot & tears to try & flush it out & it takes about 20 min for your brain to decide you're safe.

My friends test my tolerance as a party joke all the time, tried the one chip challenge with someone though(mind you I’ve eaten ghost peppers before- even got gifted ghost pepper powder to sprinkle on food 😂) I. • I’m truly amazed and proud of you. What a journey. After watching you accomplish your goal, I somehow gained this false sense that I too, could do the same. Who am I kidding, I draw the line after 2X ramen. As you get older, your body quits on you and refuses to indulge such frivolous behaviors.

  • Hey! I just wanna say, if you do continue building your spice tolerance and need milk, don’t just swallow it let it slosh around your mouth or else the milk won’t have as much as an effect, and don’t eat anything with sugar like ice cream, the sugar just makes it burn even more
