The Boyles have lived at Kelburn Castle on the Ayrshire coast since the 12th century and were once one of the wealthiest families in Scotland. The current occupant, Patrick Boyle, 10th Earl of Glasgow, believed that by creating a country park and opening up the castle for dinners and tours he could make Kelburn pay for itself, but he has lurched from one financial crisis to another.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

    • I thought the same thing. For his age he should've been in there with his cell phone putting that Easter egg hunt all over social media!!!! Come on dude...do better. I'm pretty sure he's clueless because his father has always figured something out...until now. He's sitting on top of a freaking stove to stay warm with the cats and laughing about it. And where are the ladies in these men's lives? I figured some narcissistic woman would've latched on to that aging land owner or his useless heir and turned it into some kind of reality show by now. I would love to go over there for free just to help this nice gentleman!!!! And I wouldn't even ask for a reality show, 😆

  • I visited Lord Glasgow, at Kelburn Castle, twice, about 35-36 years ago, when I was Scottish Editor at Burke's Peerage. I admire his, and his family's, efforts to preserve this important part of Scottish heritage. These old castles (I owned one for a dozen years myself) are a money pit. That many old Scots families work so hard to preserve their family heritage, their clan heritage and the heritage of Scotland...at great expense and effort...is a positive thing. God bless them.

The son's a wastrel and the father is in debt up to his eyeballs but continues to host gatherings, parties and high tea to family for which he has to charge his guests? Insane.

And straight away the viscount (son) wanted to have the castle exterior covered in graffiti!?! They put all effort into gleaning support from others while doing not much more than selling off property. If it means so much to them, they could and should have taken a much earlier, aggressive and personal approach to confront the problem.

And though I am an artist, and art teacher, I can sincerely say the mural would be better in a public city park. It spoils the castle and looks hideous. Then I looked up weddings, but would have to send for brochures to see what the rooms look like. There were only two reviews form the wedding parties in 2019 and here it is 2022. Maybe there is another website...? There is no B&B, but you can stay in a yurt or a tent. There are other activities going on. It was disappointing to see no active promotion for weddings. Would love to know what happened to the New Zealand couple.

Why sell the land for development - the son is an architect (get a haircut) so why not develop it themselves, some 99 year leasehold and some rental properties, creating a lump sum and a cashflow after. if they can't get planning permission for houses then investigate the possibility of a solar farm. 30K for a new kitchen?? DIY and halve that. this docu was made in 2006 and a lot of restoration has been done since then but tripadviser are being mean and promoting negative reviews from 2013 ish whereas the more recent ones in small print are more favourable.

  • The Lord needs a *"Business Manager"* and the Daughter appears to be the wisdom in the family, the son (well, not my business). To the Lord and his family: *Learn the "Universal Law of Attraction", your Peerage all know this* 🔑 It is the answer. Then one wouldn't have to air their private business in public. I couldn't do this, and with such an obvious ... son.

  • If you want to fart around with art as a Duke then hire a damn estate manager! Generations of Boyles' have failed at preparing their sons for the role of Duke. An career in the arts for a Duke! and then the next hire (son) also followed the arts and sems clueless about what the future means for him. And I doubt he made it through architecture licensing.

Considering the father has had the property since the 70s- hes done clearly very little to the castle by way of effective upkeep and maintenence
