  • Finally a proper review for this laptop. A really compelling product. Lenovo should focus on such devices, professional, sleek , feature packed and powerful. I'd like to get an AIO or a Lenovo display with the same design and engineering principles as a companion to this.

  • Hi Andrew, good review (and previous unboxing) - I was wondering, so is the display 100%sRGB/Adobe RGB/DCI-P3 as first stated and in all other marketing materials or is it 100% sRGB/93% Adobe RGB/86% DCI-P3 as you then later stated and detailed on screen? How did you find this discrepancy - did you colour calibrate yourself and determined these results? If the second set of details is accurate, is that not so far off from the advertising as to make the advertising misleading? I'm also trying to determine the number of dimming zones for this and, more preferably, the 14" variant. Unfortunately, the only reference I find online is one retailer describing the 16" model as having >1600 dimming zones: there is no information on the 14" at all - and I've been completely unable to get through to Lenovo customer support, in order to ask them directly. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

  • Curious question Andrew. If you had to choose between this Lenovo and the DELL XPS 15 13th Gen i9 with OLED - which would you choose? Purchased this Lenovo unit for my son headed off to college this fall and awaiting for it to arrive. Just wish the charger was UCB - C so that it would benefit from a power brick on the go given battery life. I got a sweet deal but wondering if the battery life will end up being a deal breaker.

  • Great review as always! A bit surprising just 3 usb ports (2 full size, 1 type c) when compared to the zenbook 14 pro which is much smaller and has same number of ports. Ud think 16inch form factor gives u at least 2 type cs...

  • Thank you for your reviews always, but there is one huge issue that has only be pointed out by notebookcheck: HDR management. The device is SDR by default and HDR is activated by a switch. That changes peak brightness, color accuracy AND battery management greatly. It's not at all treated like the MacBookPro. It means that the device will by default be in SDR, evenly lit (gray black bars for movies and a less than stellar color accuracy). It's crucial when this laptop is directed to creators. Especially when the MacBookPro lineup comes with one by default. With a proper software implementation. In any case, you barely mentioned the peak brightness being different in SDR compared to HDR but that's pretty much it. However seeing the price difference with the Mini LED and IPS display, and the impact the screen option has on the rest of the laptop, I think you should have mentioned it more clearly. Also, according to the Notebookcheck review, the châssis is different from the 14 to the 16 inch, which makes the latter the less attractive version overall.

My ideal sku would be i9/4070 in 14 inch but wondering if it will eventually be released in N America, or perhaps we wont get that, and certainly not in teal!

  • You missed out the biggest con by a mile - It doesn't charge via the USB C port. I got one this week. If you work in multiple locations it's my number 1 want in a laptop now so I can plug it into my work / home work stations. With this you have to carry a bloody great big brick around with it. Even the Lenovo 300w TB dock you need to plug the rectangle power lead into. You gave it a 10 for ports?!?!!!?! It has 1x USB-C port. And 2 old school USB ports. Everything I own now is USC-C. The old school ones are irrelevant, and the USB-C port it does come with is useless. For ports this laptop should get a 2. Unless you are living in the early 2000's.

If turned off and used internal graphics if it exists in this unit would probably improve battery life for things like video playback. Great review.

  • Looking at getting this at Costco with the current deal, but have 2 questions looking for reply. The soldered RAM could be a point of failure, and I can't find any data on reliability of it, but 32GB should future proof this laptop against issues with capacity. Anyone else concerned with soldered RAM vs Slot? The battery life is of some concern, but for day to day usage, browsing, office apps, and most utility apps if I can get 4-5 hrs it would good to go. Does anyone have any real world numbers on this laptop with this time of use case? I have no problem plugging it in for heavier resource apps.

All the Macbook wins is that it has better battery performance, 2x longer battery life, no cooling fan noise, and better sound. But there is one thing, the MacBook is almost 2 times more expensive. In order for the results to be equal, you need to have a battle not 75 Wh vs 58.2 Wh, but 175 Wh vs 58.2 Wh, and as a result, the macbook will still have a better result in battery performance, since the video card and the Windows laptop processor are very consumer

  • Hate to be one of the the "negative" comments with this laptop because I'm a Lenovo fan and overall it is a good machine. I got the 14" model for less than $1400 with discounts but I ended up returning it. Keyboard and trackpad were great, but to me the battery life was below average, the display not all that great considering the mini LED hype, the rtx4050 a bit underwhelming and above all, I think Lenovo missed a big opportunity by not making this a true "Yoga" laptop with a 360° screen, that's the feature I personally missed the most. I decided to go a couple more months with my 2020 Yoga 9i and wait for the ROG Flow X13 to be available somewhere, even if more expensive. I don't game, mainly design and 3D work, nothing overly demanding.
