I like your list, it's not a pokemon jerk off, just brutal honesty
POKEMON B/W WAS NOT ON A, AT THE VERY LEAST D:
I'm looking foward to see your future reviews about Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond/Pearl and Sword/Shield
And HeartGold/SoulSiver
X and Y have so much missed potential
Yep, they could have been masterpieces...
@@jogymogy3691 So could have literally any other bad game on this list. Why does XY always gets a special treatment?
@@c0mpu73rguy I guess the base parts of it are so good, while some like SM and Swsh's linear maps, may be hard to change - I guess the story for SwSh too, but it could be possible to add more context if there was a 3rd game for it.
@@zjzr08 SwSh could have used a 3rd verison.
@@c0mpu73rguy because they are just ok
I really do think Sword and Shield deserve their own tier. The damage they did to the franchise and every future game can't be talked about enough. And what do we get in return for such sacrifices? The worst main story, worst post game, and no new legends until DLC? The game felt more rushed than Scarlet and Violet with how utterly little there is to do without dlc. (They are practically 3DS games but with even less content than X and Y)
SwSh just shows that GF, Nintendo and TPC introduced Pokemon to new and nostalgic fans that probably didn't play the "golden era" games, which of course it has changed a lot compared to RBY and GSC, that they would look great in comparison - not knowing that their best efforts had been done before yet sold pretty low relatively.
I can't say I disagree tbh. Sw&Sh put me off so much I didn't get S&V, the first ever mainline game I've never gotten.
Tbh I feel like SwSh and SV were 2 sides of the same coin. One had an amazing dex with awesome new Pokémon but a poor story and little freedom, the other had plenty of freedom and an amazing story but super buggy and just a decent dex. Put the positives of both games together and it would’ve been a dream game to me, but for now I just think both are just good
@@drigon100 same here. PLA was good but i don't trust GF any more. Always watching Footage of the game since USUM and sv is the first time i refused to buy a mainline pkmn game.
That's why they are the worst games in the series
I loved X and Y alot. You wouldn't believe how much time I actually spent customizing Selena look gorgeous and take promo video to perfection. This feature, NEVER comes back to this level of depth ever, EVER.
Well...I sadly played Kalem and you know how much design options he had.....sad
The Gamefreak special. Add cool features (dexnav from oras, customization from xy) and then just take them away for no reason.
Yea I really enjoyed XY when it first came out. Being the first 3D games and introducing megas made it feel like a special experience at the time
x and y needed dlc or z version i was sad when there was none
The hype generated by Gen 6 was unimaginable back in 2013-2015, especially during the pre-release. I remember getting home from school so excited to see what the next obviously fake mega Evo leak was. In a way, Gen 6 was the golden age of the Pokémon community. That might sound silly now, but back then, Kalos really felt like a new beginning for Pokémon.
It's interesting how the 3rd versions can improve so much on the original without really changing much in my opinion. Platinum is ranked 3 tiers above Diamond and Pearl here when they're mostly the same game and that really intrigues me.
Look Diamond & Pearl are honestly not that bad, the main issue is how slow they are. Turning off battle animations mitigates this to a degree, but not enough unfortunately. That being said I'd play Diamond & Pearl over anything that's come out since Sun & Moon any day of the week. I'd personally put them in C tier, but that's because a lot of games Gireum put in C would be in B for me.
@@Lucrei. nah it's awful, the speed is still awful even without battle animations (and pokemon without battle animations is giga boring) the dex is small and unbalanced as fuck, the AI is a complete joke, the pacing is awful, dp are by far the worst pokemon games ever made and some of the worst first party nintendo games of all time
to a degree yeah but in 2023 I agree Platinum is a FAR better game to play than Diamond/Pearl DP is SO slow it's not funny, Battle Frontier and Distortion World are huge upgrades and there's just zero reason to play DP instead of Platinum (unlike BW2 which is a fantastic game but BW has a better story)
@@galvsparks6295 D/P is the worst of Gens 1-5, but I still enjoy it exponentially more than Gens 6-present. Legends Arceus is the ONLY game since Gen 5 I’ve enjoyed remotely as much as any Gen 1-5 title.
@Galv Sparks Your not wrong. Platinum is an improvement over Diamond & Pearl in many ways and it's the definitive way to play sinnoh if your interested. But it's still nowhere near as good as most people think and it still has the same problems that D&P has. It's still slow, lacklustering or unbalanced dex ( despite being an bit better than D&P ), so many HM requirements, brutal difficulty curve towards the later halve and Sinnoh is just boring to me.
Emerald to BW2 era was golden age then the 3d nation attacked
The 2d nation was overwhelmed by the amount of handholding and unskipable cutscenes and then shortly after the 2d nation had fallen
The Z version could've brought everything back on track...
i’d say sun and moon marked the beginning of the dark times. ORAS was alright.
@@rod6722 I don’t get why oras couldn’t release in 2015 and Z release in 2014
@@flowersinawasteland It is very interesting that they decided to go the Gen 3 route of New -> Remake-> Third over Gen 4's New -> Third -> Remake...I wonder if GO's success made them think to quickly scrap whatever plans they had for Z to capitalize on the "new Pokemania".
Black and white 2 are objectively the best. So glad to see everyone come around to them over the last 5 years.
Isn't BW the ones that got criticism and B2W2 is the ones more praised due to PWT and old Pokemon returning (although I do agree many wanted to move on to 3D Pokemon)?
Agreed!
@@zjzr08 B2W2 Were the least-selling Pokemon games ever, and that was mainly because people wanted 3D Pokemon games, but sadly the 3D games we got were kinda bad.
@YugDaKing I mean it doesn't mean it's disliked, mostly just ignored, mostly because many didn't request for a BW sequel at that time, and I agree they seem more hyped for an upcoming 3D Pokemon game, which to be fair could've been delayed a bit more IMO.
Honestly I would put Platinum over Soulsilver and Black and White 2 if Platinum had the speed of Black and White 2 because I just can't find myself to care abut the gen 5 legendries. idk maybe I need to play Black 1 since I've only played Black 2 to get more of the story and attachment to the legendries or watch the movies that feature gen 5, but I find Plat's legendries to be WAYYYYYYYYYY cooler.
I agree with all except for black and white and arceus. I think black and white should be A tier and arceus should be B tier, it’s a lot of fun
Arceus should be trash tier. That game sucked.
Arceus belongs in D tier. It’s insanely unfinished. It’s actually more unfinished than any of the other switch games. It’s fun for a bit but then you never go back unless you want shinies.
@@ShadyRapture i find it was more fun than the other switch games, which is my most important metric. While all other switch Pokémon games would be z tier, (except maybe let’s go they’re fine for new players but kinda boring for old players I don’t hate them) I honestly had fun with arceus even with it’s glaring flaws. Unlike sw/sh and s/v which straight up are bad games
As someone who tried and didn't really stick with any of the other Pokemon games, Arceus was amazing, it wasn't as boring in the capturing process and offered a lot of flexibility and exploration, making it easier and more orderly to find new pokemon without the need to constantly reroll a dice in a bush, although I do get that the game doesn't vary much. But I honestly really did love playing it till the end and I wish similar games with more features come out in the future.
Yeah I disagree with Arceus placement and I put 150+ hours on it and replaying it again and its the best pokemon game on Switch with SV behind it
Honestly I actually appreciate you acknowledging the age factor of Pokemon generations 1 and 2 they really are just too old at this point to compare. There was no set formula. All the gen 2 mons are basically designs the didn't have time or money to put in Gen 1. They were made on already outdated hardware at the time. The biggest credit people can give gens one and 2 is just creating the base concept of pokemon.
That’s Why Their The Best ! 💪🏽

I always look at USUM and think “That stuff should’ve been in the main game.” There are a lot of good features which are overshadowed by the fact that it was a cash grab. I really wish they had just made a Sun and moon 2, that would have been great, or terrible, you never know.
Don’t see how SM2 would be any different
USUM should have been DLC to be honest, it ironically would have felt a lot less cash grabby and most of the meaningful changes to the game don't show up until you're close to the end. Attempting to play through those games actually pissed me off so much that I didn't come back to the main series until Legend Arceus came out.
USUM couldve been so good if they had just fixed the problems SM had but they didnt do shit
@@fabiocetrulo4462what problems didn't they fix?
They didn't fix the cutscenes/tutorial, but they fixed the extremely barren overall pool of Pokemon Sun and Moon had, as well as the S.O.S. system. Honestly the games did not have many more issues than that. These games are honestly really overhated and y'all are using the same exact logic official critics used to make Emerald the most poorly received main series game among official critics until SV.
I still think you are too hard on Legends Arceus but I think your top 4 is absolutely spot on. It is super interesting all 4 were the 2nd iteration of a region (Gen 2 remakes, Gen 5 sequels, Gen 3 third version and Gen 4 third version).

Been playing Platinum for the first time on emulator for the past 2 months and it the THE BEST way to experience Sinnoh. I was so disappointed that he's only available post-game in DP, so Platinum alone made me love him so much.
Wow, you liked a 2nd stage starter, that's pretty rare, except for cases like Dewott and Braxien.

I’m very thankful to have grown up during the DS era. FireRed was my first, skipped Emerald and Diamond/Pearl as a kid (got FireRed a few years after release), and then got Platinum, still my favorite. And I agree that XY had so much promise and creativity that Z should’ve followed up on
also yeah it’s frustrating that Scarlet Violet had so much promise but we’re so rushed. The core game is so well done but needed at least a few more months in the oven so it could at least run decently.
why is legs go ranked so low tho, and I agree with you platinum is one of the best games but i love Heartgold and soulsliver only a tiny bit more. Such good games 👍
Pokémon diamond/pearl on an M3 was my introduction to Pokémon games and it became an obsession for me. Loved abusing cheats to get legendaries😂😂. My cousin's bought me Platinum and that game was just epic then Soul silver happened and to this day it's still the best Pokémon game experience I have had, I played Pokémon white and I loved that too. My experience with the games is tied to playing them with siblings, cousins and friends so yeah the DS era of Pokémon was where I started and to me was the best😊. I really enjoyed XY but skipped Sun and moon. Sword/Shield was cool but I missed megas a lot 🤣. S/V and legends A have been lit imo 🔥
Yes Black White 2 is the peak game
It pisses me off so much that BDSP z could’ve been the Goated Pokémon games if they just followed the freaking script of the improved third version Platinum 🤦♂️
it was a complete cash grab
Putting Arceus in D and HGSS in S is absolutely insane to me but I respect how matter of fact-ly you present your arguments. I think I agree with just about everything else; Arceus was the first game I had fun playing since BW2 but to each their own
I get it. There is some fun in the mechanics. However, I started playing it recently for the first time and it just felt too needlessly grindy to fill out each Pokemon's Pokedex entries and the empty world caused things to get boring really fast. I took a break from it to play Xenoblade Chronicles 3 instead. Can't say I made the wrong choice, either. The game is way better in pretty much every way.
@@orga7777 I agree with you It got boring just after playing for 5 minutes
@@orga7777 I actually have the opposite opinion, I loved Arceus, whilst finding other Pokemon games kinda boring. I do agree though that it should have more content, but in general I really did like the game, being the only Pokemon game that I've completed. It's kinda sad that the violet and scarlet were nothing like Arceus, I would have gotten them if they were. Either way I get that people like the game one way and some the other.
@@orga7777 I'm still struggling a bit with the battle system. The Strong Style pisses me off because the difference in power is so small that not only do you have to squint to notice it but it often seems like a detriment instead of an advantage. The Agile Style's cool though because there's a noticeable advantage to using it. I always prefer speed over brute strength.
I played through Pokemon Blue last year and it was a joy to play, much more enjoyable than some more recent entries have been. But to each their own I suppose.
Gen 1 did have much less handholding and more exploration but it can be quite an acquired taste now IMO.

I talk him about you in a video about the next of his channel when proposed to find a foreign partener to translate his documentaries (about me). I even talk about to Arkausey in his video defending gen 5 : « L’hypocrisie envers la 5e génération ». There is also Esquive la Boule de feu who know you and mentionned your video about Platinum and how it saved Sinnoh. I hope you will enjoy there contents and objective critiques. Thank you 😊
Yes, it's when Sakharu said that he doesn't have an excellent english pronounciation I talked him about Gireum Red. But I don't have yet anwers from him.❌ Esquive la Boule de feu used Gireum's clips in his analyse video on Pokémon Platinum.🎞🎥 As for Arkausey (who defended gen5), he said the intro of Gireum's video essay about B2W2 was a masterpiece.👍 I searched the definition of "essay" on Linguee and I fond "dissertation", I think "video essay" is a good choice too. I still find it funny that the bar is so low that legends arceus is really the best thing gamefreak have made since ORAS
I love the old games despite the fact that they’re outclassed by modern games. The world, the sprites, the graphics, it’s all iconic. I mean, for the time it came out it was so unique. When I was a kid I couldn’t even imagine a world before Pokémon existed. I feel like the whole franchise really had a big impact and influence on art in general. With regard to gen 1 and gen 2 games, it’s fun to play retro games. It’s like playing the old dragon quest games over the new ones. Even if the Pokémon remakes suck, I still am glad they do the remakes instead of only making lame, uninspired new regions and increasingly awful designs.
Crystal sprites still looks so warm and charming. It is still the best Pokemon game for me growing UP with gen 2
Diamond and Pearl deserve S tier for the underground mining which was unique only to them and Ruby Sapphire and Emerald are the best games ever. Only games that let you dive underwater.
You seem to have a very specific reasoning for what gives stuff S tier rankings lmao. I could argue that X and Y deserve S tier for having roller skates, Black and White deserve S tier for the dress up minigame, Black and White 2 deserve S tier for the cinema thing.
Gireum I'm wondering with all the lore they have how would you feel about a pokemon ledgends Johto?
Putting Platinum in A tier and Heartgold/Soulsilver in S tier is definitely interesting. I've seen a lot of ppl do the complete opposite.
they're still just one tier apart, so the complete opposite is just twisting which style of game you think are perfect/very good
Yeah, personally I would've had Platinum in S and HGSS in A. Personally I'm not the biggest Johto fan
I have yet to finish HGSS and I did really like Platinum...both had different styles (one had Underground and Battle zone, the other has Kanto and Pokeathlon) so I could see differing opinions on it
It boils down to personal preference at that point but most can agree that both are top tier
I’d switch them around. I love HGSS for a lot of reasons, but the fact that they didn’t fix the level curve makes it a pain to playtrough. It’s impossible to add Pokémon to your party late into the game because they’re amazingly under level and there’s virtually no good area to grind.
Him: Black & White, B-Tier Me: Aight imma head out
Currently doing hgss national dex and it's very fun Trying to 100% as well by getting the black trainer card Hgss is a masterpiece
Dude, no way D/P are fails... I agree Platinum is much better as you said, but I really loved playing Diamond back in the day. Might be controversial, but I actually kind of hate B/W despite some cool improvements. Loved X and Y, and yeah I agree on HG/SS, absolute legends.
One thing you gotta give sun and moon is they got rid of the need for HM slaves.
Love your unfiltered opinions, great list bro lmao
Based. I'd put ORAS on A tier, because of flying, and the secret base feature, and the fan service of having mirage island(s) & going to space, and legendary hunting had never been better. It made use of all notable areas of the game.
ORAS is S tier imo. This is how remakes should be done.
This game had me in a chokehold when I was a kid. I remember how awesome it was to get primal groundon too. Too bad I lost the game
I mostly agree with this except that I’d probably put Scarlet and Violet on B tier because I do like some of the mechanics they added to the game. And I think it’s a sign of where Pokémon 3d designs and animation are going.
I have an emotional attachment to Sun and moon because it was the first Pokémon game I played. I do think that the cutscenes are a nightmare to go through (oh god replaying the game is so slow), but I don’t remember the cutscenes being long at all as a kid. I think it’s a good first Pokémon game even if it’s very handholdy.
It justs yells identity crisis to me that i have difficulty acknowledging it as a real Pokemon game. I was released in a period of time where Yokai Watch imposed a real threat to the monopoly of Pokemon, so they decided to "revamp" the formula in the laziest way possible, so you have no gyms at all, z-moves (which always felt super weird to me), more cutscenes, and ultrabeasts, that are literally pokemon with uncanny designs (again, to compete with Yokai Watch).
@@gabsprado121212 i mean i personally think the pokemon designs are great. but i do really wish the games were fleshed out a bit more and that usum were direct sequels like b2w2 instead of.. whatever happened.
The cutscenes were apart of the game. It wanted you to focus on the story and take your time with it instead of rushing though. I think the beginning tutorial is way too much, but the criticism it receives for cutscenes is unjustified.
@@GumCow i agree. without the cutscenes, the story and characters wouldn't be as fleshed out as they are. it's mostly just the first island that's a drag to get through, but the rest is fine. i think most people just try to play through the game as fast as possible without taking the time and just enjoying what it has to offer, and it results in them hating the game. SM is different the most of the other games; it has a laid-back vacation-like setting that the game leans into. i think most people just weren't used to that.
@@gabsprado121212The z-moves were definitely a little weird, but they were actually very cool

I treat BW and B2W2 as a one whole package of a game. BW or B2W2 cannot exist without the other. BW felt incomplete but thanks to B2W2, the Unova story became complete (well, except for the Original Dragon, of which they haven't revealed to us yet). Looking forward to the 3rd iteration of Gen 5 (Legends: Kyurem or Pokemon Grey Version). I really want to see what the Original Dragon looks like.
I played B2W2 and haven't BW yet and I think it's still great - it helps I already knew about the story of BW by watching gameplay about it.
theyre making a 3rd iteration of gen 5?
We need another World Tournament and everybody in it should have a Mega Evolution. Cynthia's Mega Garchomp should be used in Undella Town where she's relaxing but still ready to clobber anybody who enters her villa. Mega Lucario should be in the World Tournament to show that she truly isn't holding back whilst facing the best of the best. And if they have to include Leon, give him Mega Charizard X for one game and Mega Charizard Y for the other. Fuck Gigantamax. I've always hated that mechanic and Charizard already had enough special treatment. I've never liked Leon either but he's a Champion so he should be there. Also, include every Elite 4 member, except maybe the Unova ones due to the World Tournament being in that region. Not having the Elite 4 in the original games was a missed opportunity.
Red/Blue/Yellow are easy S tiers. We wouldnt even have the rest without them. Give them the respect they deserve
That does not make the quality of the games themselves better lmao. This list is not about giving stuff cliche nostalgia points.
Honestly I wished they just took 2 or 3 years maybe more to actually properly make a very good pokemon game like fr. Sure the formula is overused and the same mostly but you can atleast make the overall quality of the game good. But they fail on both spectrums

@@rockfan243 that would be cool and wouldn't mind if the other gen games get the same legends treatment as well 😭❤🙏
@@niteriemcfarlane5285 oh after the horror that was Pokemon brilliant diamond and Shining Pearl I would absolutely accept them skipping a Gen 5 remake entirely and instead making Pokemon Legends Kyurem with the original dragon
@@rockfan243 if ILCA or another blatantly inexperienced 3rd party developper is making 5th Gen remakes they are doomed. BW2 are near-masterpieces and it would be insulting if we got another BDSP instead of a good Platinum remake.
@@charliez077 100% agree I no doubt believe ILCA was chosen because they are just a CHEAP 3rd party app developer who already had a contract with gamefreak and the Pokemon company. I would be extremely disappointed if they did that route again for Gen 5 but at least there would be you one good side to it. Unlike Diamond and Pearl bass games were so legitimately bad I didn't even consider buying Platinum, BW and B2W2 would actually be fun. But I have no doubt they would ruin it because they would have no idea how to incorporate the fairy-type while keeping the game balanced and on top of that instead of just adding modern quality-of-life features they would definitely make the game way too easy and black and white and black 2 White 2 or actually some of the hardest base Pokemon games to play and they would completely baby fly it because "Waaaaaah kids these days and there damn phones are to distracted to dedicate time to our games. Let's make them piss baby easy like modern app games instead of making fun entertaining quality experience packed with details....nope simple cash grabs only from now on" ~gamefreak
Moon and white 2 are my favorites. Your ranking is very accurate for the very newest games. And um the quality of them recently that’s why I been taking a long break from Pokémon until they get things together again
Thank you for laying it out as it is and putting your personal nostalgia to the side! Looking to get back into pokemon and I wanna do it in the right way. First stop for me I think is Platinum, I played pearl and that's where I kinda fell off but I liked what it was going for. I hope Platinum is as good as it sounds!
Platinum is probably my favorite!! Trying to put nostalgia aside, it just had a great story and great post-game content.
@@RussellKeatsRivas I'm super addicted to it at the moment! The first gym actually proved more challenging than I expected too.
@@RussellKeatsRivas I just wish it came around when Mega Evolutions and Primal Reversions were created. Damn it, I miss those! In a perfect world we'd have Primal Regigigas telling Slow Start to get fucked and a Fire/Flying type Mega Rapidash with Magic Guard.
My favorite will always be pearl ❤, the nostalgia it gives me is wonderfull
To think that I have only played these versions (in order): Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold and White 2 , and that they are all high tier, just shows what a person I am: I am someone who researches games before I play them. I dunno if that is a bad thing😂
I’m in same boat.
I play pokemon since DP and I completly agree 100% with this tier list. Great video once again.
Good tier list I don't have to say much else. I would do probably the same thing with Platinum depending on my mood too. Cause it's my favourite pokemon game. And with B2/W2 I'm almost there actually I have to still do the pokewood stuff.
10:30 ORAS is so good. Also the delta episode was cool and it also dropped the alt timeline for the lore lovers
Zinnia is the best character in pokemon after N
Oras truly was amazing. I swear, this was what I was hoping for bdsp 😭😭
What I love about Diamond and Pearl was that back in gen 2 I got a Murkrow toy before the game, so I was expecting to have one on my team, however it was impossible to get a Murkrow in Johto. So in Diamond and Pearl Murkrow appears very early in the game, and it even got an evolution, so I was very happy and I still have great memories of that Game.
Intro made me audibly laugh. Subbed and liked bro 😂
I've been watching you for a year... keep it up
I mostly agree with your rankings. However, I did not play Sun/Moon, but I did play the Ultra games and I loved them (I understand your criticisms of those titles though). I also loved Let's Go but my Kanto nostalgia bias is strong because I grew up watching the Indigo League anime, and playing a whole Pokémon game with my favorite Pokémon as my starter (Eevee) was a dream come true for me.
yeah he's too hard on USUM, however it IS a huge cashgrab if you played Sun/Moon. however if you didn't play SM playing USUM is a MUCH better experience and becomes a legit solid game.
For the most part, the problems with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon REALLY just boil down to being an upper version. Not even a lazy one. USUM did a lot to differentiate itself from its predecessor unlike most upper versions, and they fixed every flaw but the tutorial/cutscenes. Literally nothing else is an issue here. Emerald is the 2nd most poorly received mainline game among official critics (behind SV) for the exact same reason USUM gets hate nowadays.
Im currently playing through pokemon ultra sun, its the first time i have ever played a main line game and honestly, im really enjoying it
@@charliez077 makes me wish USUM could always be judged in a vacuum because it's always tainted by the fact that its the definitive SM game that came out a year after SM. Its the first game i completed the pokedex in and have almost every event mon they released during that time, and theres so many little sidequests, just little interactions that get you items that swsh barely has and scvi outright removes makes it a lot more loved game imo. Ive never played SM and even i can agree the story was better from a storytelling point, but USUM's overall higher difficulty and the story in terms of its climax more than makes up for its flaws over SM.
I've never played any of the Gen IV or V games on DS but want to. I'm now torn between Platinum and Black & White 2 (haven't played the 1st one btw). If you had to chose to play one of those for the 1st time which would you play?
Play Platinum. It's a better overall take on the series and is more consistent than BW2. Although the games from Emerald to BW2 are all very good entry points. If you're going to play any of them though, play them on an emulator and use speed up--it makes the games a lot more fun to get through.
I have never played any pokemon games how I can play those? Do I need 3ds or use emulator for those older ones?
i can't play anything pre-gen 4 due to physical/special split.
Ditto, I'm sorta on the same mindset with fairy type now too but thank goodness for rom hacks adding those changes. Polished Crystal and Delta Emerald are good.
I know ill get crucified for this but SM and SV are both A tier for me. They have by far the best stories in the franchise and that is enough to carry them to me, because that is generally what I tend to value most in games.
I also really don't see what you dislike about having a npc character take on the role of "main character". I agree in that it doesn't hit quite the same as having the character you control drive the story, but given the restriction of having a silent self-insert protagonist it is really the only way to communicate any kind of story.
I agree with SM.
Why HGSS above Platinum? Doesn't it avoid all those cons you mentioned with basically as many or maybe even more pros?
Probably the 16 badges and 2 regions. But yeah, I would invert Platinum and HG/SS. Platinum doesn't have the terrible level curve (biggest con of HG/SS), has better wild pokémon distribution (one of its major fixes over Diamond & Pearl too), and its Battle Frontier is original (HG/SS's Battle Frontier was literally copy and pasted from Platinum).
Hey man - great tier list. What PC model do you use and what model and specs / setup would you recommend for someone getting into streaming Pokemon?
Just a 3ds with a capture card installed would already do.
Get a Cray-1 I'd recommend
My opinion, before watching: S-Tier: Platinum, HGSS, BW2 A- Tier: USUM, Emerald, Legends Arceus B-Tier: DP, BW, GSC, RBY, ORAS C-Tier: RS, XY, SM, FRLG D-Tier: LGPLGE, SV, BDSP Masuda Tier: Sword and Shield
X and Y was my favorite for some reason but could have been better. I loved the mega evolutions
I remember not really liking gen 5 when it came out, but that might be because I kept taking breaks from the game and not playing it all at once. I need to replay them but they are so fing expensive to get now.
I’m glad you mentioned emerald because that’s what I think of when I think of Pokémon on my old game boy - I want to play that again and maybe another modern game
I agree with basically everything except PLA. I would placed it in A tier last year but thinking about it theres really no replay value other than Alpha Shiny hunting so I guess B tier would be more fair. Also I would place Ruby and Saphire in B tier. Other than that, spot on.
There’s absolutely no way you ranked Arceus BELOW scarlet and violet 💀💀💀💀
GireumRed is the most underrated pokemon youtube channel hands down. Such quality review videos.
I really liked how in XY you get to chose a second starter from a different generation midway through the game. Does anyone know what other games if any did a similar thing?
Heartgold soulsilvsr
“BDSP sucks” lol
after years of playing pokemon emerald i decided to come back and try a pokemon game again it was ultra moon 😭
im having fun but mainly because i haven't played this sorta game in like 4 years
@@blinddig7525The most important thing is that you get to enjoy it
Usum are good, he stated in his review he didn't like them because they didn't have gyms and shit.
I have a problem with wanting to pickup every item and explore everything in Violet that I get distracted from the story and thus have not beaten anything. Unfortunatly already know how the stories end and can't seem to get myself to play past the 2nd team star area, the 3rd gym and the 3rd titan. I don't understand why but I get bored with searching for trainers to fight, items to collect and having to run back and forth to complete the stories in level order. I think I'm just going to wait awhile for the next update to see if fixing the glitches and how the game runs will help me.
sc/vi feels less like an adventure and more like a checklist imo
Bro, i swear, this tier is actually equal to mine, but Pokemon Black and White would be in A or S tier because they are the best games to me. Despite of that, i wouldn't change anything lol. Nice video, greetings from Brazil 👊
The fact that Scarlett and violet did not have the same Pokemon catching mechanic as Legends Arceus makes me immeasurably disappointed in the Pokemon company and their continued idiotic idea to walk back vast improvements that every fan agrees was great but then they just take it out of a game thinking it will be a FuN sUpRiSe and maybe sometime three generations and Ten Years Later bring back that mechanic everybody loved but do it half-assed and broken *COUGHFOLLOWINGPOKEMCOUGH*
Maybe they didn’t want to make it too easy of obtaining Pokémon.
@@positivea9111 no I think honestly they didn't have time to do it right after making PLA. Heck it couldhave been a completelyseparateteam who made PLANS catchingand battle system.. With Scarlet and violet they tried to copy pla's battles being exactly where you are no void map and cut screen. I've had plenty of times I was riding on Meridon and all of a sudden we stop and the encounter camera pans 15 ft over to a pokemon I was no where near.....I can only imagine the frustration people would have trying to throw precisely at wild pokemon only to have it go right through the pokemon model because the hit box is messed up. It's seriously like these games were made by 2 different companies. I think PLA is they type of game they WANT to start making but SV are the games they HAVE to make so less care and polish.
@@positivea9111 They could've maybe made them easily catchable when you reached a certain Badge level, or if you maybe did other activities to try and catch it (like laying bait or maybe play music).
i think the best games are fire red, soul silver, emerald, platinum, black and black 2
Very good list!
thanks for the subtitles, i can understand english but with subtitles it's much easier
Yes YES o Daddy Gerium! keep Destroying my favorite mainline Pokémon game Black & White (2010) IT HURTS SO GOOD

I feel like most of us can agree that HGSS was the most beautiful game.
The only thing I would change about this list is putting Black and White in the A tier. But other than that, I completely agree with everything else.
what should i play if i played gen 1&2 games
I don't understand why people hate SM USUM so much They're my favorites
Mine too!
How about making a video ranking the pokemon generations by how much you overall like the generations pokemon designs. Get those sweet sweet list/ranking video views thet somehow are popular videos. I ask this because despite gens 6,7, and 8 having garbage games the pokemon designs were AWESOME.
That's a good idea to discuss. To talk ONLY about the quality of the Pokemon designs in each generation and one's opinions about it without regards to ANYTHING else. I still think that in any case the better designs would largely be found in earlier generations though, even if there are actually decent ones in more recent Pokemon entries.
Imo gens 7 and 8 were really hit or miss with the designs but mostly misses. 1 out of every 10 new designs was really cool but 9/10 were totally forgettable/generic/humanoid crap
personally I loved gen 7, I have yet to play usum but s/m were very well done atmospherically with music and area design.
I love pokemon SM too but i rate it 7.8/10 "Too much Kanto!"~IGN
I actually completely agree with this list, which I didn't expect to.
A pretty based opinion of the Pokemon franchise.
I just got Yellow and Crystal on the 3DS eshop
this tier list is perfect wtf
8:47 tf is that pokemon name
I will always love Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum.
I have to disagree with SM/USUM, if I was to rank it in a vacuum. They are absolutely the best games since BW2 in my eyes. The tutorial island kinda sucks, but the rest was great. Awesome new pokemon, including my two favorites for competitive singles, an amazing region design, the best "evil team" (team Skull, not Aether), and I don't really care that the player isn't really the main character for most of the game. They are also the most "difficult" main series games since gen 5, but that's not saying much since all the other games are piss easy. I'd give it a high B tier. Again, I'd be ranking it in a vacuum. If it was a composite game with SM's story and some of USUM's changes, it's be low A tier
I think the handholding goes beyond the tutorial, which doesn't help with the map design being so linear and not sprawling like in the previous games - I guess if you are fine with the story you may tolerate it, but if you think the story is not interesting then the storyTELLING can be grating.
The region and route designs are atrocious and you can barely walk 5 feet without being put into another cutscene. The trials are a complete joke for the most part mostly being F tier boring mini games and it also had performance issues. It was painful to play personally
9:00 I’m in the middle of a 100% savefile for black 2 atm! Its been 7 years of on and off grinding i have the full regions dex, white tree hollow completed, every medal and am currently breeding and EV training pokemon for the PWT. I’m doing a hg/ss and diamond run as well to try and transfer the full national dex over to my black 2 save. Update in another 7 years once I complete it!
love how all the games from S - B except for Emerald are for the DS (or 3DS) and therefore all playable on one singular console
Your top 6 are absolutely on point- HGSS, BW2, Emerald, Platinum, BW and ORAS are the best of the best.
Your missing sword and shield, I'd declare them the 4th best
@@Trevie499 the only ones I haven't played are Sword/Shield and Ultra Sun and Moon (I hated Moon so much)

I applaud you on being objective. You backed up your reasoning for putting each game in its tier and didn’t let nostalgia blind you. Platinum is my favourite, but definitely nostalgia heavy and not a S tier game
As someone who's played at least one game in each Gen I think many long-term fans of the franchise would mostly agree with this tier list. SW/SH and SV are contentious pending on how hardcore a fan one is of Pokemon. Extreme fans might defend anything/everything a franchise does
