It's truly touching how proud Sans sounds when he judges you on a Pacifist playthrough. I think part of it is due to the fact that he knows that you had the potential to become a genocidal monster, to kill his brother and ruin everybody's lives, but you didn't. You stayed strong and didn't let the trials you faced steal your humanity. Because despite everything, all the fights and attempts on your life, all the misadventures, surprises, and tears, you're still you.
+Xiao Andy Yeah, as most people speculate and also is most heavily implied, Sans has the ability to observe multiple timelines. Semi-spoilers: If you play through the True Pacifist ending, perform a "true reset" and go through the Genocide route, during the fight, he'll try to convince the "real you" to come out. The you that was his friend that was in a previous timeline (save). I don't know if he says those lines if you start off the Genocide route right off the bat, but in any case, that convinced me to spare him which resulted in me getting dunked on.

I love how this OST is named “The Choice”, but in the pacifist/neutral, it plays only when your choice has already been made. Like, the choice isn’t an option you have, it’s actually how you acted in your jouney.

My interpretation for each occurance of the song is that in Asgore and Sans fights it plays because you choose if you want to spare them or not. But when Sans judges you it plays because he's chooses how he will judge your actions.
The part with asgore made me cry. That was so intense. And the part were Sans talked about not gaining LOVE but love. My gooood this gave me goosebumps.

But the truth is, as much as Sans seems like a jokey guy that doesn't care, he is probably the saddest character in the entire game: He has depression (as far as we know) because, like Flowey, Sans is an extremely powerful character in the game who can manipulate space and time, teleport, and remember past resets. This lets him remember all the times you have done the genocide route, which makes lets him remember all the times you have killed all his friends, including Papyrus. He is extremely depressed because of this, and is constantly terrified of what you could become, because he is forced to watch it happen over and over again, and remember it. The only reason he seems so jokey and laid-back all the time is to cover up his depression the best he can, for Papyrus's sake.

this is such a relaxing song, but it makes me kinda sad and thoughtful too when i think about when it plays in the game. this game is all about choices and how they affect you and the world around you. truly a unique game experience that makes you feel so deeply for the characters.

Ugh... such a love-hate relationship with this game. On one hand, I adore the music and interacting with all these monsters. The way Undertale interacts with you as a player and remembers your choices is absolutely phenomenal. ... On the OTHER hand... I can't play RPGs anymore. I just can't seem to let go of "EXP and LOVE", no matter what they mean in other games. I can't enjoy wiping out hordes of enemy troops or wild animals anymore- not after Undertale went out of its way to make me regret killing them on any route I choose. While that does say something on just how powerful Undertale is, I can't help but think about how the random foot soldiers I butcher in other games feel now, or if they had a family (like Asgore and Toriel), and what the repercussions of getting a little too trigger-happy could be. And this makes Pokemon Nuzlockes extremely dark, of course, where the act of capturing wild animals (who are possibly sentient) and making them fight for you is already a questionable act without the Nuzlocke's added death mechanic. Thanks a lot, Smiley Trash Bag.
totally with you, i tried going back to a normal RPG and it just felt really off. although i can still enjoy them a bit i still feel kinda guilty for killing random monsters now. this game is truly powerful.
Same here. I haven't touched any Pokemon game ever since I watched the Genocide route. I can't capture one, or make one faint without feeling guilty over doing so. Heck, even fighting an enemy on other, more simplistic fighting games makes me regret my decision.

He also mentions his job quite some times during the normal run of the game and if you die to him once in his battle when you approach him again he says "guess I am pretty good at my job, huh?". So these slight hints helped me indicate that Sans was going to kill me if I spared him.
sans knows he can't kill you. he is trying to break your determination. he mostly figures this out after undyne. if his goal is to kill you he won't get anything. he has to kill you enough to break your determination.

It’s not that I don’t experience happiness ever, I’ve been happy in a moment, but so many days are blurry of me just staring at the floor wondering why I can’t just be happy, and what reason is there for me to continue. And I’m still there. But this song makes me think, I feel like there’s a choice. For me to reach out and finally get help, or to die, and end it without the struggling to fight the sadness. And thinking through the entire game, I think I know which one I want.
I love how there are these two emotional and heartfelt songs that make you feel so many things...and then sandwiched in between is just *sans*.
To be honest, i watched genocide route on youtube. I was frighened to hell. I started to play the neutral ending (killing nobody, being nice etc). When i faced sans... I was shaking. Then i heard this... I cried from relief. I know, i'm such a noob. But being judged "nice and tender to everybody", being approved BY THE MOST POWERFUL BEING OF THIS GAME... That was heartwarming and all of my work was worth it.
This is the moment that broke me. Seeing asgore so depressed and defeated… after learning about him so much… I cried.
Why must this game always hit me directly in the feels?!

6th Anniversary Comment 73/101 _"You never gained LOVE, but you gained love."_ If there's any song made for reflecting about your life, this is it. This entire corridor scene is such a powerful moment, and the pacifist dialogue really adds to it. It puts into perspective what I mentioned in Undertale two videos ago, how you're the only thing standing between the monster race and their hopes and dreams, and the internal conflict between your own desires and everyone else's.
Honestly, I'm kinda glad that there wasn't a Sans fight in the Neutral route, simply because it would ruin the vibe of this scene. Especially considering how funky STMPWYFS is. If there had to be one I'd say it's best for after he gives you the key to his room, as a sort of joke battle for doing all that
I love the variety of this song.
This is definitely my favorite track of the whole game, because it feels so soothing and calming that it could be used as a meditation ambience music.

Especially when you're walking to the king's throne room after walking through New Home and after being judged by Sans... you feel ready for whatever happens and filled with power.
All the times this song plays in this game its always at an emotional part Sans judging you, Sans sparing you, Asgore telling you he just wants to see his family again its all very sad and emotional this entire game is very emotional
Everytime I hear this, I can't help but think of everything that has happened in my life. My fondest memory's, Playing with toys, falling in love with game franchises or just games (undertale obviously), and much more.
This is so peaceful to listen to, that sometimes you could just listen to this in a troubling time and maybe you could be at peace within it.

This song made me remember "polter g-g-g-geist" from mother 3. What's funny is in mother 3 you had a choice of telling the ghost whether you liked his song or not. and what's even more funny is in both games (mother3 and Undertale) your choice doesn't matter at all!
