As in real life urban planning, the trick is to place your leftover single-tile roads that are disconnected from everything else in the areas where you don't want things to spawn. That way you can control where things spawn at only half the cost of placing an actually functional road, and you can always just pick up the pavement from your "road batteries" and place them elsewhere if you need them.
I keep cracking up at "ham people" lmao

I got the high score for most of the maps, the way u beat the game is by drawing roads across tiles which u don’t want things to spawn on and u strategically leave enough room for stores where u want them to spawn and sane for houses
Heres a tip, if you dont want to start building in one area just fill that area with extra roads so nothing can spawn there, then you control how stuff spawns
Note that if you cover the entire map with roads, the game will continue expanding the map until it (eventually) finds enough space for another building.
@@miran248 What if you had unlimited roads? Is their a hard-cap to map size?
@@stormchasingk9 No idea. Would be a fun experiment. I had two red buildings and a bunch of red houses. So many in fact, that i had traffic issues :D I got sloppy shortly after and another building (of different color) spawned at the edge of the map, while the matching house spawned at the opposite side of the map .. :/
If I remember correctly the devs patched this during beta such that if you fill up too much of the map, the demand will increase faster than the houses can fulfil so you do need to make sure to leave enough space for some neighbourhoods to form.
i would at least have connected some dark blue houses on the right side with each other long before 16:10 so that no other houses can spawn and possibly force me to go "far around" and use bridges when more houses spawn nearby.

Idea: why dont you make long stretches of "preemptive roads"? that way you can sort of dictate ahead of time where the game can place stuff. By making a grid, you can ensure there isnt room for shopping malls, only houses.
because you have limited road tiles, but yeah that would prevent things from popping up
The grid work would also cause alot of crossroads which he said he doesn't like.
I got the same idea but it's a bit difficult because the grid keeps growing.

imagine trains going right through the middle of a town for 12+ kilometers on an elevated track that is supported either on some kind of dam and by 731 brick arches, and many arches got walls to create shops to use that space. rent may be a bit cheaper when one Sbahn train per minute and many big normal trains per hour are passing over it, or it's even higher because of the central location, and one of those shops is a somewhat bigger supermarket where i often go shopping :-) "Berlin Stadtbahn" on youtube at kzhead.info/sun/eMpsZ7ZuaoaKaIE/bejne.html

@@RealCivilEngineerGaming and what about in real life?
Some quick tips: 3:19 Segregate between colors as well, make two of the blue houses only be able to go to one super market and the other two force them to go to the other supermarket. 7:27 make the two left pink houses in the middle go to the normal supermarket and do a motorway from the big stack of pink houses to the imax cinema 8:24 Again segregate within colors. Force some houses to only be able to go to certain supermarkets. Also two keep up with demands, you could’ve made a motorway from the bottom left blue houses to the blue imax cinema 9:12 What you could’ve done, instead of using the motorway at the bottom for the purples, you could have avoided the island to use one bridge instead of two 9:25 Again that’s kind of a useless motorway 9:45. Grey’s path to the right supermarket is way to long. You could’ve usen a motorway to make things much easier 10:31 you could’ve use another motorway (or another road that avoids that main one) for the light blues on the bottoms left to the top left supermarket to avoid light blues, pinks and greys go into the same road. (Which ended being the thing that made you loose) 15:15 Instead of connecting the motorway to the top dark blue houses, connect it to the dark blue houses of the bottom right, so that each group has their individual supermarket and can meet demand much easier 15:48 Too much cars are going to that road, even if you used more road pieces connect the mid left greys directly to the new supermarket. And the top left greys to the old supermarket 16:22 again, that road is stressing too much, segregate! Even if you have too use double the roads 16:33 Delete that connection and use the other exit to directly connect it to the mid left grey houses 17:50 Use a bridge too replace motorway number 1 18:04 Using the tip above you could have connected some of the purple houses to the top left supermarket using a motorway 18:07 Either take the light blues or the greys through a new road so theirs not as much traffics 18:08 Again Keep the top dark blue houses to the top right dark blue imax, and bring the motorway to the bottom right dark blue houses, so they can take care of the bottom left supermarkets without taking a long road up, and making a lot of traffic in the top right corner 18:28 You could have connected the top right yellow houses to the top mid iMax theater with a bridge 20:20 I think it goes to the more direct route. That’s why forcing them to go to a longer route to avoid traffic is the way to go I think I missed some things but that’s what I saw on the first time. Also if you don’t want thing to spawn in a specific place, covered it with empty roads that lead nowhere. You could move traffic to a side road if they are not trying to get on the motorway. Just a thought, but I would love to see that in game!
I don’t know why this is so interesting but I really like it.
Do the traffic lights help in this game? I feel like they never improve flow (in this game)
they dont help. they should come with an additional turn lane to increase the flow during the green light.
It does A LOT if used properly. It allows cars to go in bulk. Roundabouts and crossroads cause cars to constantly stop and go, which adds up the time. When cars stop, it takes time for them to move to full speed again. Roundabouts are good for moderate traffic, traffic lights are amazing for large traffic.
@@czpiaor yess, but a red light adds alot to time too, and causes a lot of congestion, which backs up to other intersections, eventually causing massive gridlocks.
Ambitious KukuiNut is right. While roundabouts are superior in most situations, late in the game they can clog as the sheer volume of cars trying to get through them overwhelms their capacity. Traffic lights are helpful in places where a roundabout has replaced a simple 4-way intersection, and the nearby connecting roads are backing up. In that case, replacing the roundabout with a 4-way intersection and adding a traffic light, can often alleviate the jam. However, it will cause issues further upstream, which can be difficult to manage. As is almost always the case, replacing a complicated route that is clogging with a motorway is far superior to alleviate traffic. These are my personal observations, at any rate.
The lane on the left with all the congestion could use some traffic lights. It just makes it smoother and less stop and go and stop and go
