  • This era of Land Rover still look great today. They've aged well because of their box dimensions, it's a timeless design for a 4x4. I definitely prefer this squared off look. Modern SUVs have too many curves for my personal taste. I've got an 09 Disco 3 and I think it looks infinitely better than the 5

    • Actually it turned out range rovers aren't as unreliable as people say. It's an urban myth in a way. Given you don't service it at LR dealership. There is a lot of aftermarket parts that are really not expensive. Also at this point you don't have to replace every faulty sensor and stuff like that. I'm in the market for a proper 4x4 vehicle that I'll convert to an Overland vehicle. Range rover is second on my list. After VW Touareg

      @SkywalkerPaul@SkywalkerPaul3 жыл бұрын
    • @@SkywalkerPaul you should replace whatever goes wrong when you can as it always makes more sense then leaving it to the point where things mount up and make it half what a Range Rover should be and leaving you with a much bigger bill when you do get it all sorted. Cheaping out on maintenance is not right on something like a Range Rover.

If my RRS stopped working today, and couldn't be repaired, i would buy another one tomorrow. ( i keep tools and extra range rover parts in the event i find a fellow owner in need of assistance)

Before that I had another sport and a few discovery 3s and discovery 2s. Awesome vehicles they’ve all been completely dead reliable if maintained well! I’m a diehard Land Rover fan!

    • See my comment. If you look after them and maintain them there isn't a problem. The problem is people buy them second hand and cheap out on the maintenance and care and then expect them to be trouble-free. They are like the my third wife - great to look at; go like they are in the 3.15 at Chepstow; great ride - but need washed once a week, lots of care, attention, love and a bit of money spent now and again to keep them happy and content.

    • Agree but thats becuase it the one they are all trying to replicate, not the greatest by any means but they are very capable of road as well as being a luxury on the road, maybe not that sporty. It is still a Range Rover! The shape might look a bit old but if you look at an X5 or ML or Cayenne of the same age they look even more dated! The Supercharged is the one to have, I had one and the look on peoples faces on the motorway when you indicate to change lanes and you plant your foot in the carpet and take off! No one expects such a big lump to get a move on! The only downside is your bank manager will call you and tell you to stop it or he will take your house!

  • Here in Australia there's quite a few with the 2.7TDV6 with well over 400,000km. My 08 is at 330k and I haven't had many issues with it. I've had it for 8 years and put 200,000 of those km on it, but it still does feel like an event every time I drive it, and it still feels like a premium car. I still think it looks great for its age - the shape is timeless, whereas I feel the German SUVs of the same vintage haven't aged as well. It also really is fantastic off road, and as an all round on and off road tourer I can't think of anything better.

  • Your review was spot-on. I'm a big fan of this era and those 4.2 and 4.4 Jag engines. They are bulletproof if you keep up on the maintenance. In addition to your list of must-do items (trans, diff, etc.) I'd include replacing the grommets that take the water from the sunroof drain tubes out the front quarter panels. I've had these fail on three of my Rovers causing electrical damage when water accumulates in the rocker panels. Currently have a 2006 RR Sport, 2006 LR3, and 2006 L322 all with over 200K miles and they run great! Added bonus - the aluminum body panels still show no signs of rust! I'm nervous to step up to the 5L with the timing chain issues, but know that I'll likely go there someday... Thanks for the great review!

My wife has a 2012 Elantra and it costs less than 1/10th to run her vehicle, but it owns very little of our hearts. But that Range... I love that Range. EGR valves alternator, bushes and lower wishbones, but it’s a great car to drive and in my opinion ( like Joanna lumley )a timeless classic. Fingers crossed it is as clean as it looks in the advert, I´m coming from a 2013 Touareg 4.2 V8 tdi R line which has now gone to my wife after she ended her lease car, always fancied a RRS TDV8 so I´ve been looking out for a nice low mileage one.

I've been looking for a replacement to my 20 year old P38 (still running fine), but so many of the RR engines have known major faults, such as the 5 Liter V8 timing chains, others blow head gaskets, etc. Does the 4.2 have any major engine / transmission design defects? I don't mind doing my own work, but don't want to be stuck with a major repair bill (plus, the nearest dealer is 100 miles away).

Bushes and balljoints are a regular consumption item, however brakes and tyres have a long life as per most Range Rovers. Probably about time I replaced it and only a S/C L494 would be up to the task.
