🔴 Russian War In Ukraine - Russian SU-25 Frogfoot Eats Anti-Air Missile • Keeps Flying
Clear footage of a 99% Russian SU-25 Frogfoot combat mission in the area of Kherson shows the warplane taking a direct hit by the missile of an Ukrainian MANPADS (Man-portable air-defense system) without any effect.
The plane keeps flying and continues its strike before deploying flares to avoid furter heat detection by other Ukrainian anti-air missiles.
At 0:34 the self-destruction of another assumed Ukrainian anti-air missile can be witnessed.
The SU-25 Frogfoot is the Soviet/Russian equivalent to the US A-10 Warthog and is used for close air support for ground troops in combat while being designed to resist heavy enemy anti-aircraft fire.
More videos of the usage of this plane in Russias war against Ukraine has already been shown a lot during this conflict.

Bruh this is old planes tho
the manpad missile is very small in order to facilitate mobility over lethality in a combat scenario such as Ukraine vs Russia, asymmetry and mobility should always be prioritized over lethality
Anti air missiles are generally not design to hit the target i.e make direct contact. Most types detonate in proximity of the target spraying fragments into it. Protecting a plane against fragments is "simply" a matter of armour
Some of these older designs like this and the A10 its amazing the damage they can take and still fly.

Just can't imagine how a thing that flies can be made to endure direct hits...
In comes the a10
kzhead.info/sun/mbqEnpuyhaCXnnA/bejne.html
it didnt endure a direct hit, contrary to popular belief anti air missiles are proximity based fuses not impact fused. Which means a armored jet can shrug off a hit or two before it is shot down, in this case it seems to have gone off near the fuselage of the main body, which is usually the most armored. A direct hit from a radar lock would shot it down in one hit if it takes the hit in that same spot.
@Schmidtka Productions Warplanes ARE designed to get hit. A-10s and F-15s have been known to limp home with one wing missing. Also MANPADs like Stingers have relatively little explosive power compared to a SAM. A lot depends on luck.

I'm sure with a little experience and some advanced tech, the pilot can get the direction of fire but not really the source however idk how updated or old this Jets is as there were many refits. The point is it's one jet with a flying into a sea of snakes looking to get a lucky lock or kill. They can see him but he the pilot can not see them if not specifically told to by the ground forces. These pilots know they take a risk providing close air support, flying low or flying in the same air space for too long but Russia has accounted for by building a plane that can take a hit and allowing it options when escaping.

you can't compare these two. but yeah, kinda.
There were a few incidents during the Persian Gulf War of jets getting hit by manpads and getting back to base. Some others may have gone down from them. Larger missles were, naturally, more likely to bring one down. Even AAA was tough on low-flying jets, as the British found out.
A high volume of air defence makes it very dangerous and also means that the attacking craft have less of a window to be successful.

Very well engineered machine. The main thing to keep in mind is that it didn't just survive, but came out of that well enough to continue the attack run and return home. Often times AA, even machine gunfire is to force pilots to abort an attack or miss. Of course the frogfoot didn't abort, although we don't know if the attack landed on its intended target. Additionally, it will be out of service for awhile until it is repaired. So the MANPAD still succeeded to some extent.
The frogfoot didnt abort because it has no RWR threat. It didn't even know what had happened because the missile was fired from its rear. Reality. Any pilot would've still fired its ordenance in that instance.
Borrowed several of the design features of the YA9, loser to the A10

@@bennoakes2477 You must have been watching too much of USAs actions in numerous invasions in last decades. Easy to think all armies act like that, I know.
In this case, "delivering a payload" is more likely than not a euphemism for "killed and maimed innocent civilians." Language matters.

I remember that our Sukhoi in Iraq was also hit by a shoulder-mounted Stinger missile from ISIS, but it kept flying and completed the mission successfully and returned to our military airport with damage in the back only, it did not lose any wing, only the shield with the two engines working, after that it was transferred from our Iraqi forces to Russia to be returned Qualifying her to participate after that in the ranks of our forces, the industry of the Soviet Union is not comparable to anything
"the industry of the Soviet Union is not comparable to anything" - because it was producing so much military crap that you sent to every terrorist band in the World as long as they said they were against the US, and it produced NOTHING for the people. For people there were empty and stupid slogans - that they would live comfortably in Communism, but yet, just a few years in the future, meanwhile, at this point, they must endure hardships and awful conditions until Socialism wins in every country in the World. And stupid people believed in this crap.
Please keep the captions up longer. Thanks.
I know what the SU-25 is. I know what the A-10 is. I know that these are wonderful cars. But, I also know that they bring death. And I really want the war to end soon: for Ukraine too , and for Russia. Because I know what war is.
It's impossible the pilot didn't think exactly the sentence "shit just got real" in that instant.

In battlefield you can take a few stingers too before you go down
SU25 are flying tanks. If identiefied, fire a second manpad.
do you seriously think they fire just once and pray that the plane goes down? they keep shooting at a plane until it goes down, or they run out of ammo....

A Stinger against a Su25 is a joke. And to prove it we can see here that you'd need at least some of them.

Think of it like this, if you had tons of explosives in your now on fire and being attacked vehicle, would you keep the explosives in the vehicle?
