    • out of pocket soft armor isn't really great for stab resistance. worst case scenario some guy 200lbs or so on... Fun Powder, just slams a sharpened screwdriver into your sternum or something. that will probably bust anything on the market. most stab vests are limited. soft armor is still fabric. THAT SAID. consider hard armor. the knight wore this, it is good enough for you. it sounds funny, but a 2-3mm carbon steel plate slightly curved can deflect hunting arrows and negate anything short of a man with a handgun. (you'd need slightly thicker metal for that, 4mm or so) alternatives include brigandine armor or chainmail, the former being somewhat more comfortable while also maintaining about the same protection for blades, and the latter being german issue for some police in stabbing situations.

  • When I was about 20, I was really into Rurouni Kenshin and wanted to practice Batoujutsu. There was a tree outside and I had a straight "katana" that is definitely what you find in display sword places at the mall. I practiced a bunch with that sword on drawing from the sheath and striking the tree. Well, it turns out the...tang? (the metal part thingy that connects the sword to the hilt) was just a piece of rebar like metal. Just a big round bar of metal. Turns out that thing will snap if you use it to pretend to be an anime character enough! So I slapped the tree with this metal display sword, the hilt sort of cracked and the tang thingy broke in half and the sharp part of the sword cartwheeled PAST MY FACE and over my shoulder, just happening to turn in a way that didn't hit my shoulder at all. It smashed against the house behind me and I just stood there freaked out. This was a neat video, but I'm extremely glad that you didn't get cut with that flying piece of knife, Charlie. That could've taken out an eye if it'd gone right. I'm glad you're ok. And I'll definitely watch another of these if you get the better equipment and take another stab at it, so I guess I'm part of the problem.

  • As a former British Police officer I brought my own vest and placed two steel armoured plates under the vest on front and back. I could still be stabbed under the arms or side. I've seen a knife attacker not penetrate the front material on a colleagues vest but the blade attack broke the rips and caused alot of bruising. These are "Anti" stab. Best thing to do if you have no weapon , is run away. Don't fight a knife attacker unless you have at the very least a Batton to defend yourself.

    @undesignated3491@undesignated349110 ай бұрын
    • Real life advice right there. Knife fights are ultra violent stuff you just don't wanna be in. The Steel plate is a good idea for some extra blunt force trauma protection. You defo still gonna notice it but getting hit on an AR500 plate is different then taking one into fabric...

      @sicstar@sicstar10 ай бұрын
    • I'd say if your worried about getting stabbed buy an AR500 steel plate for modern use But if you need more flexibility and willing to spend more money and not worried about getting made fun off, buy a good riveted chainmail But if you are worried about bullets then spend extra money on ceramic plates because bullet spalling is definitely an issue against rifle rounds Also with plates don't cheap out on plate carrier

  • The thing to remember with modern body armour is that it's a battle of compromises. One material is good against blades, but not bullets, the other bullets, but not blades, and you're constantly trying to minimise weight and allow more freedom of movement.

    @Whitewingdevil@Whitewingdevil10 ай бұрын
    • Modern armor vests, carriers, and plates don't hinder your mobility like an Interceptor vest or police entry vest would. The biggest issues are concealability and breathability. Level IIIA soft vest with pockets for level IV ICW plates. Or a cocealable level IIIA soft vest and a low-vis/slick level IIIA/IV plate carrier on top. Take measures to avoid heatstroke. Beware of "cheat rings" when buying hard armor plates from overseas. Do your research. And for god's sake, DO NOT buy steel plates.
