Ramsey Dewey gives serious answers to stupid questions.
There’s no such thing as a dumb question? False! That doesn’t mean we need to give a dumb answer though.

Preach !!!
Yes. The self defense industry is a definite scam. I have changed the way I explain my Kickboxing/MMA club as a direct result of listening to you. I once thought i taught self defense especially, when I was a Hapkido instructor, but I really didn’t even then. So nowadays when asked,“ I heard that training at your club is very good for self defense. Can I come and train with you all?” I respond by saying, “We don’t teach self defense. We move toward our opponent, not away. We train to engage. We teach fighting skills, we lift weights, stretch, and work on endurance, to make you a better fighter. These skill sets may have some self defense applications, but they are not self defense. It is offense. It is training to fight. Is that what you want? Answers vary. Thanks for the video.
The best defense is critical defense Hornady in 125 grains in 357 magnum, check your locals law first tho.
self-de·fense /ˌself dəˈfens,ˌself dēˈfens/ noun the defense of one's person or interests, especially through the use of physical force, which is permitted in certain cases as an answer to a charge of violent crime. "he claimed self-defense in the attempted murder charge" "Self-defense is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm. The use of the right of self-defense as a legal justification for the use of force in times of danger is available in many jurisdictions." While self-defense is a legal term, and people who know a lot about it and/or fighting understand why the term is being misused. Languages that are living have words that change meaning or gain new meanings all the time. The way the word "self defense" is used by either layman or experts, people all know what is being talked about. What needs to change is that people must learn that it involves: soft skills, getting fit and athletic, training to sprint/Parkour, training to *really* be able to fight and not just learning bullshido or "cheap" shots. Learning that all that is going to take a lot of money, time, work, hard work, sweat and pain. Most don't really want to do all that however, they like the easy, convenient, pretty lie.
@@357SWAGNUM_MAGA_X it is very good. But, isn’t available to everyone.
@@HeartlessKnave I agree with what I perceive to be the thrust of your post, it really isn't rocket science, everyone knows what "self defense" means, it means being able to survive a random physical altercation, and while it may involve a lot of things like you suggest, I think we shouldn't get too carried away and pretend it's either 100% training to be a professional combat athlete or 0% and don't bother
Most self defense entrepreneurs seem to be scams or con-artists bc people are using what theyre taught on the wrong people, unless theyve been lied to. Engageing is a response to a threat or offense, with an offense, but is defensive to your safety/well-being.
What would you do if your opponent doesn’t have a head? 🤔 “You need a plan B” ah makes sense! “Like punch him in the face” hollup 😂😂
Vega is the best SF character by a long shot. Either he's the only guy allowed to wear face protection and and a weapon in an unarmed fighting tournament, or he's the only guy that studied the rules and took advantage of them, so he's a real crafty fighter that would make all the "he attacked during the fist bump, he's not a real warrior" crowd mad.
Balrog would be a serious problem in MMA too. Zangief is over 400lbs and could never make weight. Balrog is around 300lbs.
The Bruce Banner/Hulk question is actually a very interesting one, if people figure out a legal way to quickly gain lots of muscle mass after the weigh-ins I bet everybody would use it.
They sort of already game this as much as they can naturally. UFC fighters are often clearly 5-10lbs heavier than at weigh in. It’s basic practice for fighters to try to put back on as much weight after they pass the weigh in.
I had my first MMA class yesterday and the instructor had to call out last minute which I did not know before I got there. Basically the highest level guy there was a blue belt who asked me to spar with him and then took it so easy on me he did exactly what he should’ve done and pulled all his punches, and simply helped me learn how to keep my hands up and do good combos.
we need more of these silly questions videos. many of these turned out to be tremendously insightful
It was alarming how quickly you thought of Chinese horse wrestling, coach. That’s some deep martial arts lore right there.
Thank you! I appreciate the candid, serious answer. My passion is truly in martial arts rather than women's self-defense. I'm a former Capoeira gal, having trained for seven years, and a current martial arts nerd. I ditched my gym last week, after asking my stupid question on your channel, and tried out BJJ... it was an absolute blast! I got out there and trained ;)
Awesome!
Glad to hear it!
Great video! I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree about Buzz versus Woody though, most of Woody's body is fabric which has been shown to rip pretty easily and Buzz submitted Woody under the van in the first movie fairly easily. File this under stupid rebuttals to serious answers to stupid questions 🤣
That Balmora background is cool. Nothing else to add, now I get back to the video. Btw, if you have nothing else to do, you should listen to the Morrowind Wood elf's voicelines in french when he takes damage. That 'ouUuf' is simply perfect and I wish more people knew it
Came for the rainy Balmora background, stayed for the questions. 🤜🤛
I appreciate that Balmora background
I grew up in the US and played whiffle ball as a kid. Oh yes I can assure you that whiffle ball bat battles have occurred. In the late 80's I fought a duel against another boy that led to many bruises and is probably still spoken about on the streets of my hometown today.
I'm digging this channel. Common sense conversations about sport fighting are refreshing.
I've seen a few competent instructors that have students wait a short while before sparring, basically enough so that they understand things like control and pulling punches so that they can be a safe training partner for other students. However, getting someone to that relatively low barrier to entry doesn't actually take that long with good instruction, provided that they're first introduced to light contact sparring.
More of these, please!
This raised my unarmed from 45 to 46 Assuming that magic isn't banned in MMA, who would win a championship fight between a guy who can transform into an octopus, or a guy who could stop time for 1 second 3 times per round? I am curious who you think would win and why.
What use is transforming into an octopus fighting a human (who is able to stop time) in the octagon?
Can we cook and eat the octopus when the match is over?
he can't stop time forever and idk if he can deal enough damage to the octopus in a second to turn the tables@@Idengard
This was flipping awesome. Informative and fun. Well done!

I'm taking this spot to say the same, love from Italy Dewey❤️
No questions, just looking forward to the video. Thank you for all the content you work on!
Good answer on the two finger grip - it’s one of my fav techniques at the wing chun school I go to, and I use it as much as I can.

Questions are never stupid but there are the one that ask it that not has everything on a row. 🤣 Greetings from the Netherlands 🥋 OSU 🥋
Skate or Die was an awesome game! My older brother and I ran rampant for countless hours on that one. Great intro music too!
Loved this one coach 👌🏻
Beautiful background and meaningful session. Thank you Mr. Teacher Ramsey...! Long well...!!!
Balmora.
Excellent! Excellent indeed!!
Love that you moved to Balmora
Always love hearing you're full title, Hater Sensei.
My new favorite video
this wass utterly hillarious!
He said shah maat for checkmate. The persian phrase meaning the king is dead. An educated man
The DK yoo caught me off guard, man I laughed so hard. Thanks
love the balmora background
The chat was basically pointless but great video and a few hilarious questions.
Hey you actually put Balmora in the background. Awesome!
Love the Balmora background
Regarding the BJJ belts as chess pieces, I’d think of the red belt as the king.
Wow coach. I love background. TES III Morrowind Balmora lived that game.
11:15 giant slalom, with two separate yet repeatedly intersecting trails, going simultaneously 😂 (I haven’t played Skate or Die, but Ski or Die!)
@Ramsey Dewey Will you ever do a video about different styles in boxing? People think boxing is just one style, but every champion has their own. Marciano, Hagler, Hitman Hearns, both Sugar Rays, etc. Also, could you do a video about different types of guards? I'd love to know more about the Philly Shell. :D
Nice to see you in Balmora, outlander
Woody isn't REALLY made of wood. Only his head, hands, and boots are made of a solid material (possibly wood, but considering his mid-fifties origin, possibly an early plastic). His body is mostly cotton filled cloth. Which makes him pretty soft and weak, but on the other hand, he'd DOMINATE at BJJ.
Nice background! Good old Balmora
Dang!! Balmora background too ❤
I see you are also an outlander who has explored Vvardenfell!
ur pac man relevation is quite something, ur definitely my fav youtuber lmao. i feel we could hangout for hours talking about martial arts and dunb stuff lol
The ski-boxing thing sounds like a brilliant idea. The answer is clearly Moguls, since you can throw an uppercut on each mound.
Love this video. Here's some more. 1. If humans had 4 arms like Goro, how would that impact boxing and other Striking arts? 2. If you had to design a fighting style based on your Chinese Zodiac animal what types of moves and movements would it have?
how do? i was born a leo in western astrology and eastern year of the dog so i'm always chasing myself around. small dogs go for the ankles, [judo ]. medium dogs go for the wrists, [ aikido ]. large dogs go for the throat, [ muai tai ]. taztez.
Love your new intro grand master o sensei chosen one. Edit Dalhsim is God tier in SF2X just beneath Claw (Vega/balrog)... I can't tell in SF5 ... He wasn't my main in SF2, SFA, or SF4.
It’s an old intro from a few years ago that I bring back once in a while.
Down to Earth sense of Humor..😀
Thanks Caius!
Thanks!
We need more live Ashida Kim Dim-Makkery 😂 questions hahaha
On the hulk question, just wanted to add, a lot of commissions do not want someone to be too much bigger in fight night, I could see a scenario where they actually stop the fight
Are brown rash guards a great incentive to work toward one's black belt?
"16 weight classes higher" 🤣🤣🤣 Love this format!
Skate or Die: Tour de Thrash WAS my childhood
Purple is my second favorite color. I didn't think about it being tied to the belt at any point. I just like purple lol
I loled at the suggestion to punch the guy with no head, in the face!!!
Love the Morrowind background.
man you are so great at what you do, hilarious idea. Keep them coming :) Thank you for what you do The pac-man mythos hahaha...
My question to you Ramsey is: have you heard of the high elves? *Oblivion music plays in the background*
For the declaring your moves question- in Kendo competitions you have to declare your target in order for it to score a point. So something like that should be able to be done lol.
Only on a Ramsey Dewey Roundup video do I come in looking for kooky nonsense and come out actually having learned valuable lessons.
This question about sport gunfight isn't very stupid actually - there was a sport of duelling with pistols, it was once olympic sport, fighters wore masks and other protection, and bullets were wax or something. Pretty interesting thing! This thing about magic unable to pass through gloves was hilarious! :D Another thing about shouting names of techniques: kendo fencers do that! They scream not before the strike thou, but meanwhile, or even meanwhile the strike connects. It is one of several qualities needed to score a point, screaming name of the opening you strikes is, in this sport, embodiment of your intention - that the strike wasn't accidental, but purposeful. Another - I believe there is historical case of ninjas vs samurais, it was some castle that was taken from inside by ninjas dressed up as monks.
Yoooo that Morrowind background!
7:30 theres also the fact almost all types of kevlar vests and ceramic body armor plates are only good for 4 or 5 rounds at the most, so itd literally turn into a wild west duel of who can mag dump the other person the fastest
I thought it was more like a paintball match with firearms
@@Gloin79 so then a wild west duel of who draws and hits faster except both people go home afterwards
@@retrowave762 ah yeah in a ring. I thought in like an arena with cover and stuff
Never would've guessed I would see Ramsey in Balmora.
Love at 7:00 how you 'almost' gave us all the strongest finger 🙃
Got questions for future videos? Leave them in the comments below!
Hello Ramsey! Imagine a beginner guy that wants to start a martial arts career, he wants to be the best that ever was! Unfortunately, so many influences, so many information, so little time… My question is, what is the most ON POINT career path that this guy has to travel? To further explain what I mean, what are the 2-4 Martial arts and 2-4 Disciplines that you would recommend to this guy to focus on, and don’t care about anything else? Value for Money as they say! It would be very helpful and motivational for every new guy to answer this! Thanks in regards!
Besides the guaranteed outstanding advice that Ramsey will give, I also recommend keeping an eye on Vahva Fitness for what may come in the future regarding MMA.
Was that intro tune yours? it was very good!
@@madmoonrabbit I think it's a premade intro from KZhead. I've seen it before elsewhere. Sounds very 80s to me.

Let's go,! XD quote of the year
The pacman backstory was definitely interesting. Does sound like a dark story. Could you imagine if they gave him a real backstory. They could and it'd be part of the smash bros universe. Pacman has only appeared once maybe twice as an actual being/character in movies.
I ask this a lot so apologies if you’ve answered it before, but do you have any advice for preparing for a Kyokushin knockdown tournament? Making openings with body techniques is hard as you can’t jab the head to learn distance and get a feel for it. The first blow or the leading attacks for combinations are always really hard for me as I struggle to find openings when sparring and often rely on counters rather than setting the pace
I got my Nidan blackbelt in Kyokushin. you can jab the body to set up distance or you can jab towards the head without hitting them, most people automatically raise their hands...one of my best combos was a jab> cross> leg kick. but the kick followed half a beat behind the cross. Its hard to explain in text but think about how you draw back the jab then throw the cross, most people draw back the cross then throw the kick, i threw the kick a half beat behind the cross, not giving them any time to defend or block. As a counter fighter I would bait them into kicking me by coming in kicking range and just as they kick move outside then follow the kick back with my attack.
Hey Coach, just thought of a dumb question that is of (at least arguably) some use: what martial art would you suggest for defending oneself from dogs - say 30-60 kg - while causing the least possible harm? Wrestling and BJJ is handy but Boxing (also Handfighting) does help with the “not getting bitten”… granted, I’ve learned that you can bloodchoke with one hand pretty easily… the question would stand for predator evasion or defense tho. Kinda rambling, so - have a good one, bro. E: you grab the collar (or the skin at the base of the neck, if absolutely necessary) with a deathgrip and twist until you’re not getting mauled anymore. Then you let go, unless you’re a monster.
Wealth beyond measure , outlander .
Hey Ramsey, what are your thoughts on sports entertainment fighting, such as WWE? Realizing that all the leagues across the world are an entertainment spectacle and not a legitimate sporting competition, how do you view them as someone in the actual fighting community?
Old martial artist here with bad hips. I still want to train. It's been awhile. What direction do you recommend ? Jujitsu background and some striking
One stupid question coming right up for you Ransey:) In the Star Trek Deep Space 9 episode "Take me Out to the Holosuite", Captain Sisko has the following conversation with his girlfriend Kasidy: Captain Sisko: [telling the story of him and Solok to Kasidy] We were in the same class at the academy. One weekend, I was with some friends in a bar off campus, The Launching Pad, when Solok came in with a group of Vulcan cadets. Said they were doing research on 'illogical human bonding rituals'. We didn't take too kindly to that. Kasidy Yates:And you'd had a few drinks. Captain Sisko: One or two. Well, we got into a debate and Solok said that Vulcans were naturally superior to Humans and other 'emotionally handicapped species'. Of course, I took the opposite position. So there I am, drunk and debating logic versus emotion with a smug and very sober Vulcan. Well, to make a long story short, I decided that the best way to prove that Humans were every bit the equal of Vulcans was to challenge him to a wrestling match. Kasidy Yates: Wrestling? Captain Sisko: All I wanted to do was wipe that arrogant look off his face so with everyone watching, in the heat of the moment, I challenged him. Kasidy Yates:And? Captain Sisko:I ended up in the infirmary with a separated shoulder, two cracked ribs and a very bruised ego. Kasidy Yates:[laughing] Oh Ben! I don't mean to laugh but what did you expect? A Vulcan has three times the strength of a human. Captain Sisko:[whistles] And they're faster too. But you're right - I got what I deserved. And if it had ended right there it would've been fine. But it didn't. Solok took every opportunity to remind me about our match. He used to point me out whenever I walked across the campus. In fact, he wrote 5 psychology papers about our match. I became the living embodiment of why Vulcans were inherently superior to Humans. Kasidy Yates:You don't mean he was gloating? A Vulcan? Captain Sisko:That's exactly what I mean. He may have hidden it beneath that Vulcan calm of his, but he loved every minute of it. And you'd think that once we graduated it would have stopped. But it didn't. Over the years, Solok wrote over a dozen papers on Vulcan/Human comparative profiles, and at the beginning of every paper is an analysis of that damn wrestling match. Kasidy Yates:And now he comes to your station and announces that he's put together a baseball team. Captain Sisko:Solok doesn't care about baseball. All he wants to do is rub it in my nose on more time but this time he's using my game. My game! My qustion is, if Captain Sisko came to you, stating that there was going to be a rematch between him and Solok and he needed to win it to prove Solok wrong about humans being inferior to Vulcans, and asked you to train him for that match. What training would you give Sisko so that he could defeat his Vulcan nemesis and what techniques would you teach him specifically for that match and what other advice would you give to him about winning this fight? Starfleet would give you unlimited resources to make sure that Sisko wins this fight, and you have full control over his training. Sisko is already shown to be a tough fighter in the series, shown on screen to be capable of defeating even Klingons in hand-to-hand combat. The honour of the human race would rest in your hands and training methods.
I know you're not asking me, but let me provide you with in answer just in case the coach is busy: We need to examine the premise. DS9 is the most boring thing ever invented by mankind and truly trashy. So I think the answer should be: Teach him to fly through the room stiff as a board with his fist infront of his head to punch his opponent (I think that literally happens in the series) and with the power of low budget special effects and crappy writing, he will win the fight. Any sort of clever, intelligent, realistic, exciting or non-crappy way would just not work in that "universe"
@@TheKlaun9 I'm assuming that your more of a Star Trek: Voyager fan. You may be taking the whole Deep Space 9 and Voyager rivalry a little bit too seriously.

Hey coach, question for you, does conditioning your leg against leg kicks have any long-term negative consequences? When someone conditions their leg to the point that being leg kicked isn't as debilitating, is any unseen damage being done to nerves or muscles that might show up a couple decades later?
I havent seen any long term effects. You harden the bone and the damage to the nerves seems superficial. I suspect that alot it is more mental...you training your mind to deal with the pain.

@@RamseyDewey that’s awesome man! I spent far far too many hours as a lonely teenager playing Morrowind, that game is something truly special. Sadly, between being a father to a one year old, BJJ, and work, I don’t have time for gaming anymore, but if I did I’d be getting that mod!
12:00 We got chesdboxing. Now lets do skiboxing. The first to get to lets say 4km can rest. The dude who comes second must immidetly get on a treadmill at high speed and sprint at decently high speeds for as much time as he was late by. Then go straight to box a round. Rinse and repeat. For four rounds/20km. Either you win via TKO/KO or by finishing the race first
Most fighters study their opponent's tactics before stepping in the ring with him, so, if you're up against a guy without a head, it's on you to adapt your techniques accordingly.
19:30 Blanka would be the best MMA fighter to train. A literal Brazilian monster with Strength, Flexibility and Grip strength.
Also if he ends up on the wrong side of a grappling exchange, he could just channel electricity through his skin and reverse the situation very quickly. But, Blanka would probably get DQ’d quickly for the no biting rule.
The boxing/skiing combo sounds like biathlon if it was invented by bored British soldiers posted on Swiss alps.
If I'm about to get kicked in the leg, I'm going to need a brown rash guard...

Stupid Question: We've all seen Thai fighters kicking trees for shin conditioning. If instead you repeatedly bashed the face against a tree, gradually increasing in intensity, would this make you better able to take a punch?
