Dragonhide Damascus quillon dagger from bearing steel balls

This video completely records the entire process of making the dagger. The steel plate forged from countless steel balls, I call it Dragon Skin Damascus. Under the reflection of sunlight, this dagger can reflect colorful colors. This is my favorite work and the most complicated dagger to make. Thank you for watching.
This dagger was designed by Neels Van Den Berg (ABS MS). You can find the drawings on their website.www.blackdragonforge.com

    • Absolutely agreed.. I’m very interested to know what chemicals you used for the aging of the brass and on the blade? It looked like a copper sulphate solution on the cross guard. Was it liver of sulphur you used on the blade? Thank you for your outstanding craftsmanship and video 🙏

    • It's because most of the time, people keep pressing it to draw the desired length, in this case, I bet he carefully chose the tube length to not press more than the forge weld would require. You can even see that he cut off a lot of leftover, thick wise, from the forged tube.

  • The key to this was so simple, yet imperative. Vibrating the canister to allow the powdered steel to sink in the canister to fill the spaces in between the ball bearings was genius. Well on you good sir!

  • it's a beautiful blade, beautiful craftsmanship and it looks incredibly amazing. The only thing I'd nitpick as someone who's been using blades all their life would be that the grip is round. That isn't nitpicking your craftsmanship, it's nitpicking the standard design itself of such a dagger.

  • Кропотливо , старательно , вдумчиво ! Есть два замачания . Первое , на клинок напрашивается дол (ну кинжал же). Второе , рукоятка не "ляжет" в руку. Спасибо за увлекательный ролик .

    @Alessandro_z_lesy_partizan@Alessandro_z_lesy_partizanАй бұрын
    • ну дол скорее мечу напрашивается, там вопрос облегчения с сохранением прочности острее встает, кинжал же может на пару сотен грамм и тяжелее быть, а вот с ручкой согласен, совсем не удобная форма, для обратного хвата разве что...

  • I think I like everything except the handle of the dagger. Mostly because I'd functionally want a dagger rather than awkwardly shaped handle. Things that would have made the handle better: Reverse the direction on installation. Narrow end towards the blade. Incorporation of flats on the handle so the blade can easily be indexed in the hand.

  • I have always had an idea for a Damascus billet. Never tried it dont have a forge. Fish hooks and ball bearings in 1095 powdered steel. Forge welded. Can stripped off. Then forged round. Then cut diagonally half way through very inch or so then twisted one fourth turn. Forge weld. Then repeat by drawing out round with the diagonal cuts 1/4th turn. Repeat this 2 more times. Then forge into a blade.

  • Amazing pattern! Just a little advice for your lathe to serve you longer, keep it away from the sawdust, it absorbs moisture really well and gets really well under the carriage. It is possible to just cover the ways and leadscrew with something but I generally avoid abrasives and wood near my lathe. Worst case you can actually make a wood turning fixture with your lathe, probably the motor and bearings will be the only things you need to buy

  • Such a beautiful dagger, the blade is by far the focal point, the Burl handle adds to the look as does the "Antiqued bronze fitments" and definitely not a blade meant to be used, but deliciously displayed inside a glass case to keep greasy finger prints off of it!
