It always amazes me how you can take a piece of wood that anybody else would throw away or burn and you turn it into an absolute masterpiece. That wood is absolutely beautiful and you did a great job turning it into a vase, just stunning.
Wonderful looking piece, Matt! Really beautiful work!!! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you very much!
One thing I have used to fill in with glues and such is a pasta maker. It’s like a caulk gun. Makes life really simpler. Very nice work as usual.
That is So Cool, Matt!!!! 🙌
Thanks Gina
As a fellow wood turner I can appreciate the tenacity, patience and skill sets you definitely possess. This project is a great display of turning end grain and having it “turn” out as amazing as it did. Well done sir!
With that beautiful light wood tone, I think I’d have filled all the gaps with resin (cherry red or Kelly green or electric blue) and turned it similarly. Your take though is a thing of beauty! Can’t argue with that!🤗
Thank you Matt! 🙂 I really thought you mucked it up for a bit there! 😄 That's Stunning!🤩 Blessings! 💜
Thanks Trish
Favorite piece thus far

Proper lovely that. Best wood turning video I've seen in ages. Love it.
Fantastically beautiful piece
Beautiful vase Matt
Looks amazing, I never would have thought of adding branches to fill the gap.
Plain and nice! Good work!
Thanks!
Beautiful and innovative vase Mat.
Wonderful job!👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
That's great, Matt. Once again you had me guessing but at least I figured it out this time when I saw the shape. Bill
Cheers Bill
Excellent job!
Like I tried to say... THANK YOU FOR SHARING !
Excellent work
Great work as always 👍👍 Beautiful piece of wood 😘😘
Great job Mike Jordan 👍 🏀
Beautiful ❤
I like Hawthorn for turning. Nice peach color. Made candlestick holders and lamps from it. I fill the cracks with epoxy resin and whatever color my wife picks out. Have fun.
I love the Asmr in these videos❤
WOW! ...and WOW-WEE...eh!?! Ya take an old piece of wood and bring it to a machine add some exquisite skills with a little touch of magic ✨ AND JUST BEHOLD WHAT YA GET! All that I can add to this is... THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
That has a really 1960s vibe to it.👍
Absolutely gorgeous. ❤❤

Beautiful piece!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome project. 👏👏👏👏
Thank you! 😊
I’m watching - I’ve got a lot of Hawthorne so I’m waiting in anticipation….
This is me still watching__ you and Andy Philip … amazing invention… I mean I can turn a log but not think what you can do with it….
Good use of cracked wood. I filled cracks with resin
Very nice. I really want to start using resin but have been hesitant because of the cost commitment. I hate seeing so many beautiful pieces of wood sit there not being used because of cracks and void (burl especially) resin is such a nice remedy for that. I think I might try the PVA as a filler along with something similar as your cherry pieces. I love your designs. The shape of this vase is perfect. The skill to hollow something so deep with the precision that you do is inspirational. I hope to be able to some day. I had some hawthorn from a tree that died a while ago that was much darker( I never realized that hawthorn was also lighter in color). The bugs got to it before I did so it was a bit Swiss cheese like. Besides that it was nice to work with. Thanks for sharing!
It's amazing what A GOOD MACHINE CAN DO to any piece of wood you find laying by your fireplace! ...😂 Just joking! it's THE SKILL, THE CRAFTSMANSHIP and A touch of magic that I REALLY APPRECIATE!
Very, very pretty. Not the usual vases.
That is freakin cool!
Looks very exotic
Great piece, looked like mud pies when filling the large crack! 😅
Thank you! Cheers!
Krásná práce 👍💯❤💯👍
Really beautiful... an amazing use up for old coffee grounds.. it must have smelled great while you were turning it...
Thanks
Very nice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That's lovely. I have an hawthorn lamp, partly bark on. I spent food money to buy it. It has pride of place in my home .
Sounds great!
Krásná práce 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Lovely
Très beau travail, félicitations ! 👍👍👍
Very nice 👍
Thank you 👍
Badass!
Thanks 👍
A- maz-ing thanks
Thank you too!
Nice.
Nowadays anything you do with wood is a new style 😂
Always thought hawthorne a bit plain, not anymore! Really like this one, don't know why, but i know I do, if that makes any sense 🤷♂
really lovely - personal preference would been to have kept from yellowing the wood. Would love to have used a used a clear lacquer to finish but really beautiful all the same.
Nice ,talent.. at least 90% of tree was used unlike some who turn a while peace down to the size of a pencil waste of a tree.
Just a random question on safety... The wood is turning towards you, what if it was to snag that tool you've got, could it pull your hand into it? Why doesn't the log spin the other way? Surely it would leave the mess confined below and it'll be safer?
Lovely 👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁
Thank you! Cheers!
Buy some cheap disposable syringes for injecting epoxy, etc. Open out the nozzle with a drill bit if necessary.
Mind you this gentleman is a genius….I’m still waiting in real time….
Nice piece. Was that a wood glue/dust mix as a filled or a resin mix? Thanks.
Why did the glue cause the wood to start smoking?
I'm pretty sure that CA glue heats up a lot when it sets. Maybe, because he was putting it onto sawdust, it was able to almost ignite?
Exothermic reaction, need to build it up in small layers to stop it getting too hot
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
An absolute pleasure to watch in this crap crap world,.thanks
How does a video that has 8.3 lakh views have only 21 likes?
That is really gorgeous. How long did this project take?
Thanks, can't remember the exact time but I normally make things over a period of a few weeks with drying and all.
If the timber splits I guess game over . So selection is key right?
Never going to stop some woods splitting when left as logs, even then some woods have a higher loss rate when cut
What finish do you use for your vases? Looks great!
Thanks, Danish Oil normally
Beautiful work do you ever make candle sticks
Thanks, only if someone ordered them
That looks great. What did you use to fix the log slices into the main piece
PVA and used coffee
Thanks, I will add that to my note book 😁
Pfffft…amateur lol That looks amazing dude! Great job!
Thanks 😅
Really nice work Matt!! I always get nervous, watching someone turning a piece with voids in it, listening to the clicking noises, as one little catch could spell disaster. BE CAREFUL.
👌💯🇧🇷
That is amazing. Looks African.
What are you using to fill the cracks in the hawthorn?
Like
Hey man. Whats PVA?

@@MattJordanWoodturning Muy bien 👍
Can you turn sumac?
You can but I don't have any, never turned any either, its not a popular wood in the UK
Poor material for turning, punky, like hard cork.
Looks really nice but you worked HARD to get it IMO
First 😊
Second!

You are!
Very nice …… ❤️ when you got the right tools you can do things like that….. 🤷♂️💯🫶
Thanks 👍
Believe me all the tools in the world won't produce this quality of work, years of practice and learning your trade and skills are what makes this kind of beautiful art work.
