SIX Teslas in a drag race line-up? You better believe it!
We’ve got our hands on every performance version of the Model S and Model X. From the P100D through to the Plaid, these are the six quickest Teslas money can buy. The question is, just how different is their performance?
Let’s start with how they compare on paper. The Model S P100D rolls up with dual motors that combine to produce 671hp and 950Nm of torque. It tips the scales at around 2,100kg. As for the Model X P100D, its two motors combine for 534hp and 755Nm, and it’s a fair bit heavier than the Model S, weighing in at around 2,500kg.
Then we have the Ravens. Both come with dual motors, and both the Model S & Model X produce 778hp and 1,140Nm. However, while the Model S weighs 2,255kg, the Model X comes in at 2,552kg.
Then finally we have the Plaids. Both cars have ti-motors, and both produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm. But just like the Raven, while the Model S weighs in at 2,190kg, the Model X is a whole lot heavier, coming in at 2,464kg.
So it comes as no surprise as to who the favourite is, but just how different will the performance of these cars be? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

  • Really enjoyed the race! However, I was surprised by the lack of engine sounds - it felt a bit boring without that roaring audio we're used to in drag races. Adding some sound would definitely enhance the excitement! ;)

    • Taycan turbo gt would beat the plaid but lose to the lucid becuase it has 4 motors and porsche only used 2 due to them caring more about overall performance then just straight line speed. If porsche cared only about straight line speed and put 4 of their motors in a car it would easily be the fastest car on the planet.

    • @futuristic_car_channel yea. At the end of the day porsche is the true winner for being able to retain a lightweight 2 motor setup and be able to keep up/beat 2 car brands that have to use 3-4. Porsche engineering is obv leading the pack

    • To be fair you get used to the p100d, but I still tell people to put their head against the head restraint if it's their first launch. 2.3 0-60 is still very quick. They look slow in this video next to the others

Even if you take the 0-60 without the rolling start, it’s still about 2.6s, so still ranks near the top of the list of fastest accelerating production cars nestled in amongst the usual ‘exotic’ ICE contenders. You definitely get used to it, but doesn’t diminish how impressive that acceleration figure is in isolation.

  • 16:24 - when i was Circuit Racing, i used a product called 'Rain-X' (comes in a little yellow plastic bottle) and after 2 applications, once you go above 10mph you *NEVER* have to use your wipers, ever. Providing you don't wash it off with your screenwash, or swipe it off with the wipers sweep, it lasts, and lasts, and last Awesome product - I can't recommend it highly enough

  • I am so conflicted. The rush, the thrill, the INSANE acceleration. It'd love to have a spin in a Plaid. But on the other hand the pure aural pleasure that you can experience [at much lower speeds] with 6 cylinders, right behind your seat, winding round to 8k RPM is hard to leave behind. For me this is like watching MasterChef where only microwave ovens are allowed.

    • Similar reduction to petrol when giving it the beans. I left my digs doing the north coast 500 (P100DL) and used 150 miles of range in 80! Totally worth it! 😀

  • 15:48 the trim issue is a factory defect. It has happened on my previous X, my Friends X and now my current Plaid X. Its been changed once at like 35k, and now 20K more miles its happening again. Tesla body panel issues.

  • Would have been great to see a dragrace of all Tesla Model S Performance cars. P85, P85D, P90D (both prefacelift and facelift) and the ones in this video. 😊 I believe the “change” came on the Raven, but would be nice to see how my old car is holding up. Also a P85D or P90D with a old and a new battery, to see how much power degradation there is.

    • Did all P100D's come with Ludricous+? I have a P90D and the original owner paid $10k more to have Ludricous+ which also requires a fuse upgrade. Not sure that P85D's were able to retrofit that option. They only had Insane mode.

    • @@alangil40 Some P85D was retrofited with Ludi, but it is unclear if that had the same effect as the P90DL. originally they were Insane mode only. I bought one of the first Ludicrous cars in Norway. P100D is found with and without Ludicrous also.

  • The age of the P100D model S & X might explain why they ran 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Various aging components such as the battery and tires might come into play there. When new they were new, they could do 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
