  • Holy crap. 332kW peak charging and it put in 83kWh in 20 mins. That’s just bananas. With 300+ miles of freeway range and the ability to go 10-80% in 16 mins, that would make this equivalent to a gas car on a road trip.

    • Can only agree. If in a few years, this tech reaches the mid class as well, there's not really an argument left - except maybe towing - for an ICE car in most countries. Given that infrastructure grows quickly enough.

    • @@BVZTIII I drive 280 miles a day or so daily. Also keep in mind electric cars aren't recommended to be charged to 100%. Most people charge them to 85% so thats 45 miles of range gone on a 300 mile EV.. Combine that with effects of cold and warm weather on the range and the realistic range people get is far lower than EPA estimates. Even more so if they start carrying more people and stuff. No electric car on sale today can match the combination of range and refill speed of my 25,000 dollar corolla so saying theyre on par with gas cars isnt accurate.

  • This is awesome. Porsche is kicking a** and taking no names. Absolutely brilliant. Now if Porsche would only put both North American charging ports on the cars; then they could just drop the microphone. If Porsche puts the CCS on one side and the NACS on the other; that opens the car to charge at any charger anywhere in North America. The driver doesn’t even have to think or plan what station they can stop at. All the thousands of chargers become fair options. Also makes A/C availability on both sides as both charging ports are able to do both A/C and D/C charging.

    @cjabe756@cjabe7563 ай бұрын
    • They announced a switch to “NACS”/J3400, but it’ll be a little while. The new Macan has the DC port on the rear left which will allow it to easily pull in at a Supercharger.

  • Without detracting from the good features and technical advantages of the new Taycan, I also maybe upgrade when available, I myself have managed with 2020 4S base battery version to consume 17kWh/100km = 27.3kWh/100mi without even trying, although in summer in Finland (20" tiers). Sure the average speed only about 81-85km/h= 50-53mph while many stops and traffic. The logic for me is the weight of the car, which I rank higher than range. After owning 4 years and driven more than 65tkm absolutely no issue with the range, but that is surely based on each personal needs. With long trips I enjoy some stops every 200-300km no issue. Great car and drive with smile every day!

Even Stellantis with their new STLA large platform and GM with their EV trucks (soon a Chevy Bolt refresh!) seems to keep up decently. Renault will reveal their sub €25k EV in just 3 weeks. With the larger 54kWh battery, which will cost 29k tho, it might achieve 400km WLTP/250miles of range.

The interesting problem is charging that fast only matters if you’re on a timed road test. Lately since EA has been improving I’ve found I didn’t even have time to eat or take my kid through the WalMart toy section before I had to move the car to avoid idle fees.

Also need to have Vehicule-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicule-to-Load (V2L) as standard features on all EVs. All this would mitigate the downsides of EVs compared to an ICE, and make it more manageable which help convincing non EV enthusiast).

    @Y4vuz12@Y4vuz123 ай бұрын
    • It is kinda for both, efficiency and better high speed capabilities. You can engineer the electric motor to have peak efficiency at lower rpm and power output figures if there is a transmission with a second gear to help out at higher speeds. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA will also have a two speed transmission and the base/normal version is projected to "only" put out around 175kW, so it's focused on efficiency while still having enough power.

  • The charging speed is very impressive. I'm a huge fan of EV's, not that convinced of the climate hoax, I just love how they drive. I have a '22 Model 3P and it's a great car to drive and own, nothing on a Taycan of course, but it's plenty quick and comfortable with decent space. The German's always underrate their cars, I don't have any issue with that at all...better to under-promise and over-deliver as far as I'm concerned. However, the focus on charging speed, while it does close the convenience gap between EV and ICE, is going to create issues down the road. Batteries don't like to be charged that fast and it decreases lifespan. Not a knock on Porsche or any of the automakers for that matter - they are simply giving consumers what they want. But I am concerned it will lead to heaps of bad batteries in 8-10 yrs time, maybe earlier. I'm also glad to have an ICE car to take on longer trips, I honestly don't want to stop and charge when I'm driving more than 200 miles...I just want to gas up and go, especially when it's late and all I can think about is getting home and back in my own bed :) Even a 15-20 min charge is still 3-4 times longer than a fuel stop, although you do have the luxury of sitting in the car watching Netflix or taking a nap while it charges. So dunno, maybe I'm looking at it all wrong but having just returned from a 240 mile one way weekend trip I was glad we took our F150 and not the Tesla, which we were going to but changed our minds last minute because we had to be at our destination by a certain time and charging would have added too much time to the drive.

There is no way there will be major improvements coming soon as their own charging network is outdated, too, and could not even provide higher charging speeds. They will start to replace their outdated and slow chargers first before any big change. Additionally, their 4680 cells are trash as well, so they would continue to rely on external suppliers for othery better, batteries and that is something they really would want to avoid. Model 3 has not seen any big improvement and Model Y won't either. The Model S would be the first of the main lineup to get those upgrades, like switching to 800V, but it actually does not make much sense as the competition is already far ahead in the luxury segment and Tesla sells negligible amounts of those high cost EVs. For the Cybertruck they tried to make it work but failed, the truck is worse than the comprtition. Tesla is limited in its capabilities for the mentioned reasons above. Tesla is a economy car manufacturer, nothing high-tech or cool about them. And customer actually know this now. And that is okay. Just don't be a fanboy out of touch with reality

The Model S P100D was the fastest EV, until the Taycan was introduced, and then Tesla added another motor in the Model S Plaid, and annihilated the Taycan Turbo S at least in straight line acceleration. Now with the available track pkg, the Model S Plaid isn't the same one trick pony. It's going to be interesting.

    • What are you talking about? I am a Tesla owner myself and I can't wait to dump my POS car and either get a Tycan or a Macan..The superchargers are now available for all cars (except Stellantid hasn't announced their switch) so Tesla is bound to be kicked in their nuts.. because why would anybody buy the worst car on the market with the most antiquated tech if they can simply use the supercharger network too and have a superior car? There simply is no reason to own a Tesla anymore starting 2025. BTW I have FSD and yes I am bitter that this fraudulent company cheated me out of my 7k and sold me something that will never ever work.

  • So this is nothing more than a Taycan ad

    • If by Taycan ad, you mean showcasing a huge leap forward in EV technology with range, efficiency, and charging speeds beyond anything any other company has, then yes. It’s a Taycan ad.

    • Lol you guys are dumb, the Edmunds range test is tested with lower average speeds. In the Edmunds test it would hit 350+miles and surpass Tesla Model S Plaid. The pure highway range at 70mph is easily 310miles+. The charging speed is insanely fast 6-83% in 21min. 10-80% should be 18 min and under. If you combine that with the information that a Taycan facelift just obliterated the Model S Plaid Track Package on the Nordschleife you can sum up that it will be one of the fastest EVs in driving performance and charging performance. For a performance EVs it has awesome everyday driving range and the interior, just like all Porsche, will be nice, too. You propably have the best performance to cost EV on the market here. And this video helped to build this point

    • Seems fairly reasonable to me how the did it. A 6 hour round trip of 326 miles. Obviously average speeds will be reduced whenever slowing or stopping but I think that amount of mileage covered in the time is fairly representative of what a large chunk of people will do.
