  • Sam Darnold has insane arm talent. I've seen him throw 60 yard TDs off his back foot and flick of his wrist. What's keeping him from becoming an elite QB is his poor decision making. He tries to force throws into double and triple coverage especially when down late. Remember he was 3-0 and MVP candidate in his first season with the Panthers until McCaffrey went down with an injury and 4-2 last season leading the NFL in yards per completion. I hope the Falcons or Raiders sign him.

I would rather see Darnold stay another year as a backup rather than having some unknown RC backup. It will be interesting to see who the QB2 will be for the Niners next season. • ARE YOU ON DRUGS?? OR ARE YOU BLIND?? PLEASE TELL ME ITS ONE OF THE TWO. OR BOTH. Darnold went up against a 2nd string defense today, he had every opportunity to put up 35 points and easily close this out. His last to games have ended in turnovers. This was his chance to shine and dominate a terrible Rams 2nd team defense. And he laid an egg in Darnold fashion. Brandon Allen would have won this game. Trey Lance would have blown the Rams out

Be glad there were no major injuries to starters! That is a win for when the playoffs start. Trey Lance is a BUST didn't even understand the playbook. How was he supposed to blow the Rams out? If Kyle thought Lance would give the team a better chance to win than Sam Darnold then Trey Lance would still be a 49er. Besides Trey Lance got destroyed in the pre-season because he stood in the pocket like a deer in headlights taking sack after sack after sack. Crazy how people are still talking about Trey Lance with all the if this and if that BS. He is gone get over it!

  • Sam I am playing for Shanahan. Its a big game in this respect. If Sam plays well, he can earn a new starting gig, the 49ers can earn a comp pick, and the next qb we recruit as a backup on a short contract will be more likely to choose 49ers over other options that might pay a little more or offer more snaps. The chrystal ball is murky as to how that works out in the offseason, but the 49ers do win today. Personally i dont see Sam as ever fixing his issues, because he has always had them, but he might be able to conceal them a few games.

  • Darnold does release the ball very quickly, but that is not always a good thing. Most of the time he does not go through his read progression, instead he panics and throws the ball to the 1st read, and if the 1st read is covered there's going to be an incomplete pass or an interception. Contrast this with Purdy, who will extend plays with his feet so he has enough time to go through most or even all of his read progression.

    • And who do you want? Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Jameis Winston ? None of those I mentioned are any better, and yes I realize Fields has better Numbers but he's prone to turnovers (41 int, 12 fumbles lost) and doesn't actually fit the offense O'Connell is running. Sam Darnold fits the offense and also has never had the weapons he will have in Minny! As a matter of fact he's only had one guy that was even in the conversation of a top 5 at his position and that's Christian McAffery at rb1. The Vikes have a top 3 wr1, top 5 te1, top 10 wr2, and I think they'll end up with a top 10 RB room. Unlike those who hate this signing, I can see the writing on the wall, Darnold is not the future or Even going to be the starter all year, he's just enough to bridge between Kirko and our new rookie QB. And he has weapons in an offense he knows how to run. The Vikings are smart with this signing, Even if you can't see it.

    • @@robe2504 Thanks for the analysis. I really appreciate having conversations with fans such as yourself that can actually look at the player and his skills instead of just saying " He is horrible, that's why he's been on three teams in 5 years". Those your of fans are impossible to even have a conversation with because they don't see the situations the players have been in , only that they aren't still there or have been in multiple teams, which to them equates to them sucking. And it's even worse if someone like me or you gives them other examples like how Baker Mayfield sucked on the browns, but has just landed a long term deal after bouncing around teams for 2 years, or how Deshawn Watson forced his way out of Houston just to be average on the Browns, or how a rising Jimmy Garoppolo got benched for a 4th round rookie, or Even how the Vikings own beloved Cook, with 4 straight years of 1000+ yard per year, got cut; and didn't Even get to 250 yards with 2 teams this last season! No these emotional fans only see he's not a starter so he sucks, not realizing in the last decade there have only been a handful of players drafted in the top 10, each year, that went on to be Superstars in the NFL after they were excellent college football players. But I usually only point out their flawed views once, after that my time, and energy is better suited elsewhere in my life than trying to change someone's opinion that they can't factually back up with any evidence. But alais, thank you for your analysis and Skol Vikings!!!
