Pre-capture is that one feature of Olympus (now OMDS) cameras that I never understood why nobody else had implemented it. It's amazing for wildlife photography, as you can just react to whatever happens rather than holding down shutter button in hopes of capturing something. Great to see Nikon bringing it over to their system.
Nikon were the first to come up with pre-capture on the Nikon 1 series of cameras many years ago. I never understood why they didn't put it on the Z6/7.
@@philharris999 Oh I didn't know that. How odd that they didn't keep it as a feature - it's extremely useful in some situations (I use it for catching birds taking off on my OMDS kit).

Yes.... but it's not frames, it a time sequence in seconds, AND cannot save in RAW. Albeit, post will take care of that.

It is a small step down though from D5/D6 in build, weather sealing, durability, magnesium alloys are not as thick/strong.... and is more like a D6 meets a Z7 II.5 right? This is a pretty incredible group of people in the video. Obviously Kai, Lok, and Joel Marklund, but also the Beyond Content team who have done some incredible videos for Nikon Europe, and Ricci of Nikon School and his KZhead channel Ricci Talks. I don’t know much about BMX but clearly the guys riding are super talented as well, if anybody can add their credits they deserve a shoutout for sure.

I do hope that Nikon will not "artificially" protect the Z9 by not trickling down features that don't actually make a lower segment cameras more expensive. But I don't think they will, because they have to get their DSLR users over to the Z mount.

Nikon is getting back in... i remember the days when in camera stores of HK all I could see was Canon and Nikon, then Nikon faded away slowly.
Yes but there is a downside to lower prices, I have a D1/x/h and D3s/D4s and now D5/D6/D850. Only reason I sold off my NPS Z9 for a small profit to a friend....was it felt too much for me. I'm a 25 years control your own back-button focus and joystick guy and I do not miss many shots with my D6/D850 combo, just sold my last personal copy D5. But the D6 is definitely built a little better, has better feel, has more magnesium alloy by the vertical grip controls area. You can feel the made in Japan vs. made in Thailand/China and I am NOT racist or an a-hole. I'm not Ken Rockwell either, just don't like the Z9 much as it has no WT-6A or WT-5A port, no reliable wifi/Bluetooth like my D6 and WT-6A. I had the same issue with my D850 but at least my D850 is how I want it. Both a great action through the big and bright .76x finder and great Live-View or Time-Lapse and video if you can manually focus like I can. All of my 4 lenses are E-type...the 24-70 VR, 70-200mm f/2.8E FL, 500mm f/4E VR FL and 28mm f/1.4E! All adapt great especially with the Z9 and FTZ II, but the Z9 costs me shots I'd otherwise ABSOLUTELY would've gotten with the D6. So I'm not sold mirrorless is all the way there. Everyone thinks the Z9 is gold, but how could it be nearly the price of a D1 in 1999 dollars and inflation/covid, economy. Explain how can the true flagship be $5,500 in 2022 and Sony's A1 with no grip, no two CFexpress Type B, no whatever camera be $6,500 plus $1400 for cards and grip? Nikon obviously cut a few corner's and good on them, I'm happy Nikon is innovating and breaking norms! However do not tell me the Z9 is better than the D6 in every way possible or that the new 800PF does not have some compromises! I've seen and held both due to NPS, Store's nearby and friends or colleagues who were at the Surf contest in California last week. The 800PF and Z9 are killer combo and for the money it is absolutely nuts compared to Canon or Sony. I get that, 100%! just not down with the it's a true flagship and D6 killer. Nope!

Nikon and Canon started it. Sony just bought Minolta and kept on "improving" that. They have zero history in lens making or camera design.
@Prashanth Panicker Minolta was my brand for 30 years. Then Konica bought Minolta and practically killed it. Then came Sony who bought the remnants of Konica/Minolta. It's a pity.
Nikon have great ergonomics and everything feels where it should.. the more top end cameras are superb for quick options in menus etc

Specifically am looking to find out what the Data Rate is for N-RAW at 8.3K at 60fps in both the Normal and High quality settings. I still don't get how on earth nikon has managed do pull this of without a fan or overheating problems... Like, all the stuff they have packed into it is actually working and usable, and not just for the spec sheet
compared to R5/A1 Nikon Z9 body is larger and there must be some coper metal for manage heat or thermal pads. and maybe Expeed 7 processor also handle higher datarate without getting overheating. something that apple managed to do with M1 chips. all this together manage to keep heat low for longer without fan.

need precapture to account for the display lag, nice feature, too bad the exposure on the riders was way off due to the backlighting, can the camera be setup to expose the subject in the foreground correctly automatically?

I hope nikon also focuses on creating a new log curve for non raw shooting, and also implementing a color space transform profile in Davinci Resolve. RAW video is still unfeasable for hobbyist IMHO.
You can create custom picture profile by using Nikon official software. you can make similar to a log curve to keep more details of shadows and highlights.
I may have creamed myself over that 800mm lens...just a touch out of my budget though lol

I bought the a1 for 6500 now I'm annoyed with Sony for charging that price when the z9 does all this and is significantly cheaper. I don't even think Sony will do a sizeable firmware update to try to match, which is very disappointing.
I don't get how the a1 can do for fps in stills but doesn't have the conouting power to match 8k 60 raw internal like the z9?
@@jalexanderevans as far as I know, the A1 does compressed lossy raw at 30fps. So there isn't as much data being moved per second. The Z9 only does 20fps raw, but it's full quality raw files. The Z9 is also bigger, which probably helps with overheating, where thr A1 might struggle more
