Confessions of a tiger poacher | WWF

With about 3,200 tigers left in the wild this iconic species teeters at the edge of extinction. Poaching and the illegal wildlife trade are among the gravest threats to the tiger's survival. Conservation organisations such as WWF are working with former poachers and local governments to stop the poaching and save the species.

  • A law should be passed, especially in Asian countries for rangers to have permission to shoot poachers on sight. Raising awareness is also needed.

    • @Fuck Communist shut up you bitter fool. I live in the heart of north-east India, me and family generations have lived alongside tiger territories. In my old house, we've literally seen cubs late at night wandering in our backyard (mum was definitely around), so if someone's trying to be a part of the solution, don't belittle them. He maybe a westerner, probably an American. And it's okay to drink Starbucks ffs, I do as well. This Earth belongs to all of us.

    • Jimmy Honeycutt If you’re passionate enough about these animals and care so much about them and you do everything possible to prevent them from becoming Extinct and if that means having to kill other men (humans) to protect the Tigers then yeah I would kill another Man! Use the Logic that Tigers are Endangered Humans are Most Certainly Not! Tigers and every other wild animal have every Right to live on this Green Earth as much as we do!

    • @@cameronturk4388 Especially Asians the two countries that had the largest tiger populations at the beginning of the 20th century (China and India) are now the two most populous nations in the world . Chins has almost no wild tigers and though India still has the most but just a fraction of their former numbers.

  • There are a lot of times you have to shoot/take down poachers, but then if you can capture a poacher and then convert him/her to the cause of wildlife (like these guys), they can become the greatest protectors of these wild places and animals. They know so intimately about the area as well as the wildlife better than just anyone else, and their local knowledge is vital in protecting places from outside interests. I feel the cause of the tiger will be won or lost by the support (or lack of support) of locals.

  • THE SHOCKING CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUR NON-RECYCLED, FOREIGN MADE PAPER AND WOOD PRODUCTS and TIGER EXTINCTION: "You know, it is really difficult to differentiate between illegal logging and wildlife poaching. Because if somebody is coming to cut down trees, they will also kill animals. And they make new tracks (roads) and that makes it easier for the hunters to access the core zones (of the forest) and hunt leopards and bears and tigers." - Rohit Singh, Technical Advisor, Enforcement, WWF Cambodia

  • There's no excuse to what they do/did to these poor animals. And I just hate it when people say stuff like "they're poor, they need to eat" and other nonsense. If you have a brain, you can think about how bad and wrong this is. There are other ways to earn money and feed your family other than destroying wildlife and animals.

    • ViolentPeace101 Oh, come on... First thing : poachers don't hunt for food. They slaughter animals for their bones/horns/whatever and they leave them to die. Hell, these bastards even kill rangers that are paid to protect animals like this!! I've seen lots of documentaries about different people in different (poor) countries and I've never seen them do things such as poaching. (excuse my english, it's not my mother tongue)

    • Indeed, but tiger lose to human population growth. We could stop breeding and focus on caring for animals who need our protection. You can be happy and fulfilled without having children, and having children to care for you in your old age contributes to human overpopulation.

  • US has more captive tigers (mostly as pets) than the rest of the world has in wild. Surprised to see no one is speaking over this outrageous issue :( China should also learn some conservation lessons. This year they legally banned Elephant ivory trade that was 1 good step but a long way to go for China. India is actually working in the right direction as 70% of wild tigers are now in India.

  • its extremely saddening seeing all these tigers getting poached , glad that some of these hunters regret and now doing something to redeem their wrong in the past. protecting those animals for those that still keep poaching wildl animals may karma fall upon them. not being racist here , but all the blame should be on those mainly chinese merchants as what the hunter say mostly is the merchants offer a price for the animal so there's a market for it. and mainly of the merchants tend to be chinese

  • Tigers are such majestic animals, so are other animals. When you see these animals you say wow the Earth is beautiful. It's ridiculous how selfish some people are, you can see the joy on some of these peoples face, the ones hunting, very disgusting. They should have some dignity and integrity for the wild. May the tigers live forever. Kill the trade, save the animals, save the world.

  • Protecting the animals is a good thing, but it's critical to find alternative source of income/employment for these natives. With job opportunities that give them equivalent or higher income stream, hunters will be persuaded to trade in their guns & forgo the hunt.

Poor conditions leads to numerous bad behaviors bc frankly they most of the time don’t have a choice but to kill tigers to make a living. Sad but I hope wwf takes all measures possible.

  • If people without a guilty conscience, can kill other people (the same species as the killer-it does in animals), it means that they are only in the human form, the same as human people, but they are worse in behavior and attitude towards nature, but any carnivorous animals. How do you affect those who kill the animals for his own gain, as a murderer, are not of such crimes silent material benefits, but their "awareness" below any level of human dignity. I feel sorry for the tigers, but to restrain the idiots in human form, who are responsible as the authorities of the large states cause wars just to make them a bit "nicer" in their idiocy.

It could have something to do with protecting something that can't protect itself (in the face of guns and whatnot). Some people are more selfless than others, and actions do not always require payment or gratitude for their doing.
