  • You can now preorder the Kurzgesagt Immune System book! “IMMUNE - A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive”: kgs.link/ImmuneBook IMMUNE is a fascinating and fun journey through your own body, where we’ll be exploring mystery organs, murder universities, your enemies from viruses, bacteria and cancer (and how your immune system might have killed a cancer cell while you were reading the last few sentences) and the incredibly beautiful and amazing parts, cells and systems that keep you alive. After reading it you should not only gain a new appreciation for your own body but also experience disease differently. Also 45 illustrated pages by the Kurzgesagt team make the book very pretty.

The complementary system was an especially hard lesson for me to understand considering the absurd amount of random letters and numbers I've had to memorize. Really, thank you for sparking the motivation in me again.

The immune system is so complex to me that when I think I has grasped one concept, there is another figure out, like an onion with infinite payers. I am also very visual, so you have that aspect of learning covered, too. I am interested in reading your book, "Immune: A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive", too. Thank you for also including a family-run business like Powell's City of Books to sell it through.

      @fighteer1@fighteer14 жыл бұрын

  • Presumably you've already thought of this, but I'm curious to see a video on what happens when the immune system is overwhelmed and the cut becomes majorly infected and you have take antibiotics, that would be really interesting

    @JordanBeagle@JordanBeagle2 жыл бұрын
    • Most common antibiotics are not bactericidal, but bacteriostatic, this means that they don't kill bacteria, but they prevent them from reproducing. In the end the infection will be taken care of by the immune system but the presence of antibiotics is a massive help. This is also why you don't interrupt your antibiotic treatment as soon as you feel better, if you do, you are allowing the static bacterial population to once again begin reproducing and this will hurt your immune systems chances. Even more because when you feel bad and restart the antibiotics, the bacteria will have adapted and developed resistance! I do agree that this would be a good addition to the immunology series from this channel!

    • now that I think about it that's a decent idea. It would basically be a more complex war game without food or politics. It would have massive armies specialized to take on only certain enemies and if you forget a single part of the immune system like say killer T cells your army falls apart for 1 reason or the other or does worse in the long run like if you did not make any memory T cells. You would like colony survival.

  • Currently binging all of these after being bedridden for 2 days with a high fever and finally starting to feel better. It's so fascinating how my body basically declared war and deployed troops against the virus, as well as setting traps with the complement system. Now I'm hoping my B cells keep making antibodies against whatever virus from hell I just got over. Thanks for the video

  • They should make an rts game based on the immune system, bacteria, and viruses. Like the viruses are slow and sneaky, the bacteria can strike hard and fast but take time to adapt, but the immune system is the reverse of bacteria

    • Well for highschool biology I did make a simple simulation game of the immune system where the player could do things like add cells of the few types I included and viruses and if you were able to start with a good balance and a bit of luck it was reasonably fun to watch the battle between the b-cells and antibodies against the viruses
