ASTORIA, OREGON TOP 10 THINGS TO DO, EAT & EXPLORE - 4K TRAVEL GUIDE

🤙🏻 I was raised on the Oregon Coast in Seaside Oregon, so I know Astoria, Oregon well - this is the best guide to experiencing the BEST of Astoria without all the fluff. It's the only guide you really need to know Astoria, Oregon and what to do, where to eat and what is worth exploring!
There is a lot to do in this awesome Oregon coast town. This is my top 10 list of things to do where to eat and all my thoughts on the adventures and must-see things around the oldest town on the Oregon coast, as well as the most pivotal and important town on the west coast since the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1805. I hope that this guide helps you experience Astoria to the best of your ability. As a top 10 list, I had to carefully select and rank the best things to do.
I'm going to list a few things here, *SPOILERS:Columbia River Maritime Museum, the Astoria Column, The goonies filming locations in Astoria, Fort George Brewery, okay that's enough, just watch the video.
It breaks down where to eat, hike, explore, must see things if you are or aren't from the area, this guide will be very useful. In this Oregon Coast guide I take you through best eateries to where they filmed the goonies to the riverfront and the megler Astoria bridge and from the waterfalls to downtown to the peter iredale fort George, etc. AND RANK THEM! Keep in mind, that this video is from a local perspective.

  • I live in St. Helens, grew up here and on Puget Island on the Columbia River commercial fishing. You hit most of the spots I would recommend. The Portway Tavern is a historic tavern with great food and a collection of life rings from boats and ships, one of mine included. If you head upriver you have spots like Cathlamet, Stella, Rainier, and St. Helens that all have different things to offer and are historically significant. I mention Stella because that was where they made the Cigar Rafts of logs that were sent to San Francisco after the earthquake and fires, they have a really cool little museum. Cathlamet is like stepping back into Mayberry RFD, they have a wonderful marina with camping, the bridge to Puget Island, and the Ferry to Westport Oregon. St. Helens has wonderful access to the river and the city has a park on Sand Island with camping, docks, and a shuttle during the summer. My family originally came to Astoria from Norway and Sweden for the commercial fishing, then moved upriver to Puget Island and Cathlamet, my parents moved to St. Helens 50 miles upriver. That is where I am now, at the Marina in my sailboat kicking back with my Siamese cat.

    • There is a lot here, so let me unpack it: You are living on a sailboat in a marina kickin' it with your siamese cat!?! That's freaking awesome. I hope you stay in touch through my channel, but if you start makin videos let me know becuase that sounds like a very interesting life! And super cool, lots of history in the area that I didn't know about, thanks for sharing! I had never heard of Cathlamet before. Also sounds like your your family were some of the original migrants that built out the PNW! Take care ;)

  • I've been in the south of Oregon last May and June. Coming December I will be arriving in Portland, I wont stay long because I'm going to visit the son of my partner there. But we will make a day in Astoria, I'm a film buff, so guess what Ii will be doing😉. Plus the trolley we will do for sure. Looking forward to it all.

  • Two sites sites of interest to history buffs, a short drive out of Astoria, are: 1. Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, at the site of their winter camp. 2. On the way to (1) a memorial to Conde McCullough, engineer of many distinctive bridges in Oregon. The two drawbridges in and near Astoria are two of his earliest surviving bridges. The memorial is located next to the bridge over the Lewis and Clark River.

  • You are very thorough in covering the local sites. We live in Portland and we really like Astoria and we take the Amtrak bus which goes from Portland to Cannon Beach, Seaside and Astoria. The busses are nice and the drivers are friendly. We especially like going to the coast in the winter to watch the storms.

  • I like the see thru floor at Buoy Brewing, where you can watch the sea lions resting on the wood beneath the pier.

    @timshell9317@timshell931710 ай бұрын
    • To my knowledge, Bouy Brewing had a massive collapse in the kitchen from the weight of all the appliances and such and they are possible moving or rebuilding… that was a cool feature I wonder if it will live to see another day or if it will be refreshed… 🍻

      @JacksonMeyer@JacksonMeyer10 ай бұрын
    • @@JacksonMeyer- It wasn’t from overloading. The pier on which the brewery and restaurant were developed had defects which were not corrected before development. I think some piles failed, leading to the collapse. As of November 2023, the building seems to be in the same state as when it collapsed, except for being fenced off. I’m wondering when they will repair it.

My grandma lived in Netarts and my folks would ship me off to her for the summer in the 60s and 70s. I had aunts and uncles and cousins in Oceanside and also out on hwy 101 just before Beaver. Those cousins went to Nestucca H.S. The ones in Oceanside I'm not sure but they all had official lifeguard training. Happy memories of Grandma's Gravenstein applesauce. It was the best!

My favorite thing, other than the tug boater's bars, was buying a bucket of Colonel Sanders Kentucky fried chicken and feeding the seagulls down at one of the several still operating canneries, mostly pier 8 through 12. Nowadays its 95% superb eatery joints that have blossomed. Hopefully, this delightful little city doesn't get mongrelized like Provincetown, MA. Also, we're hoping that the coloring contest returns to the Silver Salmon in February, AND the Fisherman's Poetry event a bit after that. Both were exceptional events.
