In a world where an Electric 5 Series, or a little Porsche Macan, both cost 100k: it won’t surprise you to hear that this EQS SUV from #Mercedes costs a whopping 143K as tested! And there’s even a Maybach sitting about this at 250k.
So the world of new car prices is a crazy place. But if you are in the market for a 7 Seater, this #MercedesBenz could be one of the best luxury 7 seaters available right now.
Most of us agree on one thing when it comes to #ElectricCars: While the tech is generally boring for performance cars, it’s obsoletely brilliant for Super Luxury cars - why? Less noise, less vibration, effortless power delivery, no gear changes - it all just makes sense.
In terms of Performance: We have a 108kw battery giving us in both UK models: Range of 365miles, along with Fast charging at 200 kW - this makes it a hugely useful EV as a proper range monster! All cars are 4matic, and so we have two PSM motors, one front and one rear, the two main models are:
EQS 450 at 355BHP
EQS 580 at 536BHP
As with all EVs, it’s heavy, the EQS SUV weighs 2.8 tonnes! We will see how that affects the ride. All come standard with air suspension, and a massive 10 degree rear wheel steer to help this element.
Practicality
Length wise, the length of the EQS SUV is 201 inches, which is actually shorter than teh big brother GLS combustion car. And the GLS has a big disadvantage when it comes to manoeuvrability thanks to the EQS’ Rear Wheel Steering! With 10 degree rear axle steering, the turning circle of the EQS is shorter than an A Class! This translates into a huge difference when living with the car daily, be it manoeuvres in town, or more crucially, parking in tighter spots.
Optional 3rd row is the big draw here, it’s luckily standard in UK cars and offers good space in the rear. We will of course show you the boot space in the different configs!
Now with EVs these days, my first piece of advice is to head to the Used Market where you’ll find cars that have already lost half their value in the first year, so you don’t have to. But with the EQS SUV at least in the UK… there’s not a single car on the used market at time this video was made. Maybe the car is too new…? OR maybe it’s the £143,795 list price on our car today. That’s approximately a 30k hike over the GLS. Or a normal EQS on the used market at 59k!!
A tough pill to swallow for potential buyers. For most the EQE SUV is a better choice, if you don’t need 7 seats. But what is certain is, this is amazingly comfortable 7 seater with all the benefits of an EV - is it worth the price of admission?

What I cannot understand is that manufacturers seem unable to understand how to make a car look special or interesting. BMW does seriously ugly with effortless ability. Audi seems to make the same cars forever. Mercedes….now make a whole range of identical blobs that lack any character but are in different sizes. This car has astonishing technology but in Refrigerator White, it looks as desirable as a wig from Amazon. Technically it will be good..Inside it will look good…but going by current quality, those looks disguise poor detailing and frequent material disappointment….and with super lob looks, depreciation will be dramatic. Only companies should buy it and for tax reasons…Mr Private Owner will need bravery in the wallet and a bucket full of optimism. 😬😬😐😐😐 Hmm…to summarise…it is a fine taxi for use between the airport and Hotel XYZ in Huge City. Only there is it fit for purpose and only earning money is how to justify maybe £160000+ but otherwise…a luxury clad blind alley. 😐

Not sure what is the issue with MB. In the US, almost every dealer has tones of these EQs left in the lot, some still have the 2023 MY. Their prices are too high and they have awful lease programs. In the US, MB was listed as number 26 out of 50 cars evaluated by Consumer Reports.
The prices are ridiculous, the germans are just inviting the chinese manufacturers in . Shame ….
Keep in mind, these models typically run high even for the ICE vehicles. It’s going to take the A and C glass to get more volumn sales. Also don’t forget the state of the economy!

Thoughts on MB backing off that 2030 marker for EVs. Though I'm an EV driver, I'm glad there will probably a longer period where ICE cars will be sold.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that the electric lineup for Mercedes are not volumn cars or SUV’s. Even for Mercedes! The base EQE starts at 75k. Don’t get me wrong, the design don’t help! I think they need to look at their A and C class and get it right! Then move that up to the higher models !

This and the EQE are absolutely ridiculously priced and worth peanuts in a few years. I have an EQC via work but outside of BiK I have no idea who’s mental enough to drop 140k on something like this. Even 100k is too much.
it is not only those cars... look at the W206 vs W205, same spec car is 10k difference, look at the price of the CLE, ... if the product is really worth it people will still buy it though

@@MarkB4444 The EQC was an experimental EQ model for Mercedes. Nobody wants one. Low undercarriage that scraped the road at any bump, known for Airmatic suspension failure. Low charging speeds., You name the flaw and that car had it.

Had EQS SUV for a weekend and for me it proved that electric cars are only meant for city driving and new generation Mercedes is looks over function. Even the door handles were unusable so I wont even start with the interior screens.
I think u got that the wrong way around, the looks are criminally bad. They sacrificed looks for function.
Writing off all evs because merc are shit is a laughable statement. Thats like writing off the internal combustion engine because your 1L fiesta blew up.
I have the saloon/sedan version - the base "lease special" model (that you can't even get now because it's such terrible value). I've done a 2,400 mile road trip from London to Budapest and back. It was simple. Never, ever, an issue with charging or queues. And the comfort and quietness were great. Even at 75mph it would go 330 miles with ease and a decent amount of charge to spare - which is pretty good for an EV. Around town in Summer I get, what I think is a staggering, 440 miles and in Winter around 310. I quite like the screens - although I don't have the big hyperscreen which I don't like. That's the good though. I mean, it's very nice to drive, it's very comfortable, it's nice and quiet, it's (overly) spacious and can haul a lot of gear... but... Yes, people find it ugly but, after having had one for nearly 2 years, I can guarantee you - the looks get no better. The door handles are beyond a pathetic joke. The list of "bad" goes on for quite a bit. The saloon/sedan is a 110k car new - but I'd rate it at no more than 80k new. And 140k for this SUV???? Anyone BUYING any EQS brand new needs a cranial exam! On a lease deal they are seriously dirt cheap which I why I got one - and if they offer it to me for silly money at the end of the lease I might take it.

Again another electric 7 seater that apparently can take 7 adults and luggage apart from the fact its max loading weight is 630kg as opposed to the GLS which can carry 745kg. If you’ve ever driven a 7 seater close to its max loading weight you’ll know why this matters and with people getting bigger and taller now chances are people will be breaking the law and not realising it risking voided insurance or charges in an accident.

It’s sad to see a legacy carmaker copying to the T Tesla and failing so miserably at it. How is this £140K blob of design acceptable. Don’t care if electric or not. Just very bad value. It’s like they did it on purpose to not sell enough. Also who is the targeted clientele for this.. clearly the Range Rover buyers would not consider it as they have taste, you don’t even see one of these around London and doubt they’re a hit in china.

One of the ugliest car ever made in history, and the ugliest interiors ever. Its just a big screen, how terrible. Benz makes some of the best interior & exterior design, in there entire 100 year+ history they havent made something this terrible looking, somethings very wrong at mercedes benz. Theres no way they could be this bad after creating the first automobile and making stunning world class cars for over a century, to make the worst thing on sale is crazy. Whoever approved this shltstaln prius looking thing needs to be banned from the auto industry or any industry involving art. Even the new prius looks better, where is the signature long straight hood from benz theyve had for over a century, thats what makes a car sexy. Give it a long straight hood move the A pillar back, use the hood for extra storage n dont make it look hideous, stop connecting the tail lights idk who thought that looked good. If ur gonna make a short hood car look at the taycan, its stunning. Either way benz needs the straight long hood, that gangster, classy, sexy look back. Bring back the star on the hood, bring back gangster, classy, sexy, presence. Its sad to see the greatest manufacturer go down this bad, go back to the roots. W212 pre facelift is still the best looking sedan ever created, learn from that. Stop slapping screens like they dont belong, integrate them like the new escalade, porsche taycan. Add buttons, control knob, nobody cares about a big touchscreen only 2 year olds, nobody is watching movies or living in there car.
The interior of this is pretty much the way all the "bigger" Benz motors are going. The latest E Class has nearly the same interior as the EQE and the EQS is very similar to an S Class. Integrated or not is a personal thing. I don't mind it but integrated does look a little better.
