  • I had spied the Vitara Sport AllGrip in the Suzuki showroom, whilst my wife enquired about the availability of the Jimny..16-18months waiting list! I was impressed with the interior space and at 6'1'', I still sat comfortably under the panoramic sunroof. All the controls were easy to operate and after a quick blast around the streets, I was sold! True, the hard dashboard plastics are evident, but so is the dashboard in the 49K Golf T-Roc. My galactic grey with cosmic black roof arrives in 2 weeks! And all for 37K drive away.

  • We’ve had the Vitara Turbo for 4 years now, and it still feels like new. We’ve test driven the 1.6 N/A and the difference is night and day from the 1.4 Turbo. Because the car is so light and the lag is quite minimal you’d hardly need to rev high to get up to speed. The driving experience is quite enjoyable; it feels like torquey little hatch around corners. We’ve just changed from the continental tyres this year, so you’re almost guaranteed 50k km with them, the Bridgestone Ecopia EP300 have been very grippy improving the driving dynamics further. Boot has been enough to carry a tandem stroller with groceries on top. Cars been averaging 7L/100km and (again because the car is light…) still plenty of meat left on the brake pads.

    • Yes, I wanted to change the Continentals immediately upon purchase and put my favorite Michelins on it but was stopped by the boss. Had to settle for Michelin snow tyres for the winter months...they are quieter and a little grippier (as expected). I may do a mission impossible switcheroo and replace Contis with Michelins sometime but have to pick my moment! May your happy driving continue for many years! Cheers 😁

  • We bought the turbo allgrip BECAUSE of the outdated tech 😂 I can’t stand all the fancy screens and integrated stereos, just another point of failure in a modern car. The infotainment screen is easily upgraded to a double din of your choice. The car has been awesome, very reliable and does everything as expected. We looked at a Kona, a venue, cx3 amongst other things and this got the tick of approval, no regrets.

    • @Threadexpress Mine is near 150k now. I dont push too hard to accelerate. I use paddle shifters for overtaking. And no sudden breaks, so I didn't have to change the brake shoes yet. I always wait 2 or 3 minutes to warm the engine up before driving when I start in the morning. Dont use E10, at times use 98. I am loving it.

  • Thanks Paul, a great balanced and informative review, respect your knowledge and approach.. The current Vitara is a little old school and I like it for that reason. My wife drives a 2010 SX4 4wd - 235,00 km and no repairs other than maintenance items. Scratchy plastic, but no rattles, no wear, just solid long term durability, absolutely nothing has stopped working. This little car has pulled itself through rough, muddy property access on family properties in and around western Queensland as well as serving as a daily drive. It's a genuine tough little thing, it does nothing special (apart from reliability) but does everything well. The Vitara is next on her list. DAB? - mate, not where we live. Oh, my new Hayabusa comes with analog instruments and I thank Suzuki for that!. Yep, I'm old school.

We got the black accents pack that featured black surrounds for from daytime running lights and black sideskirts...jazzed it up a little. Quick but not crazy, efficient, roomy and simply a pleasure to drive. A real drivers car imo. Had zero hiccups, and this little tiger loves snowy/muddy conditions...havent been stopped yet. Still running like a dream and will probably keep for many more years. The tech is brilliant where it counts...ie. the engine and other vital component systems. • Driven both. The hybrid is actually barely any more powerful and is slightly heavier. Overall it's a zero sum where performance is concerned and you barely notice it. It's definitely slightly slower, but not by much. And no more economical the allgrip version suffers much less torque steer than FWD, but I've found changing tyres really helped. I went with XL Michelin CrossClimates for the stiffer sidewalls and that cleared it right up.

As of the Vitara, I guess it's one of the very few small SUVs which looks good, has great visibility esp for kids, spacious interior for its size and oh, I will take the conventional auto over any other auto any day, every day. I love the design being chunky n squared, and that engine is pretty damn good, but yes it needs more sound deadning and a rear armrest and bit better materials.

  • I advised my 70 y.o. sister to get the Vitara turbo about 4 years ago, because of the simple reliability of Suzuki and the torque converter auto. She first drove the 1.6 thinking turbo was for "hoons" (like me, with a tuned GTI :) ), then a few weeks later decided on another test drive. They only had a turbo available so she took off in that and was immediately sold on the massive improvement over the non-turbo. She bought one and loves it. It's the perfect size for her needs, easy to get in and out of for arthritic older folk, and costs nothing to run. They are not a bling machine, getting a little dated interior wise, but a solid choice. My daughter had a Swift S 15 years ago, and back then the Swift dash was best in class by a country mile.

  • Drove one a couple of months ago, the AWD model. Fully agree it's getting long in the tooth. But it's one of those cars that just feel right. Hard plastics and a few modern missing things are not that bad. Again a little color splash here and there will readily lift the interior. One thing it has going for it is reliability. Not just the Vitara, but all Suzuki's.Even those funny looking bullnose Ute's.

  • Good, fair review Paul. Couple of items missed or perhaps worthy to be corrected - for Australia anyways. The black items, such as wheels, are largely standard here pursuant to the model. You noted the lack of technologies of others, but unless I missed it, didn't appear to address the radar system, emergency braking and largely autonomous driving cruise control features. Also from a storage aspect in the rear, there is expander points for the likes of Golf Bags to be put width ways. With regards to the look, I think it's fine and avoiding change and curves merely for the sake of it - which don't always age well. DAB is no doubt liked by those who have it and are use to it, but never having had it - it's not missed. The 1.4L is surprising zippy and a hoot to drive. I have previously had the 1.6, and whilst not as spritely, it was more than capable and we were very happy with it. Again it is largely the case that if you don't know different, it's not an issue. As with most things in life, there's always something seemingly better out there - but with it increased cost / issues.

  • I have a previous version top ranging vitara (a turbo diesel version that is not available anymore), and it looks almost the same. Inside the only difference I see is the colour LCD on the analog tachimeter (it was monochrome before) and some new ADAS (lane assist, blind spot light). I need to say two things: yes it's not very modern inside and it's packed with screatchy plastic. But it's a well built, sturdy and very durable interior. After 4 years of abuse (I have two small kids, and they to everything in this car!) it still looks like brand new. Outside my old model looks almost the same: the front grille is slightly different but headlights are looking the same (I have xenon lightbulbs however). On the rear, the tail lights are a little different (same shape, different colors). The Turbo Diesel 4WD version I own is a champion in fuel consumption. I can't give you exact numbers but a fuel refill lasts for ages. The trunk is also surprisingly big, and has a very handy shape: I can fit everything I need for two weeks vacation with my family of 4: two very large rolling duffle, 2 gym bags, a potty and 2 kick footers for for children, two overflowing backpacks, and even 2 ikea bags full of shoes, and other things. I could fit more if I really needed. I wasn't expecting this to be more spacious than my 2014 Audi A4 avant but it actually is. So... I'm very impressed with this car. It doesn't look fancy at all, but it's a convenient, sturdy, reliable and handy car that will last forever. For sure a great buy for the price.

  • in Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa, and South America, Suzuki introduced XL7 which is slightly bigger than Vitara, fits 7 people for the top-spec price of 19.000 USD, it already has an E-mirror complete with a dashcam front and back but the rest is the same as with Vitara, including the engine but without turbo and higher ground clearance but at 16-inch wheels. but Suzuki everywhere are known to be very reliable car.

  • I owned a 2019 1.6L front wheel drive. No issues with the car. I really enjoyed driving around with it. However, capped price servicing cost at Armstrong Suzuki in Toowoomba is not welcoming at all. It started off at $230 last year. I went to collect it after service today and found out it was $299. Apparently according to a staff at the counter, it'll be $500 ish on the next service. 🤦‍♂️

  • I've got the 2020 1.6 model, I here people talking about the 1.4 turbo but if you're a skilled driver you will find the 1.6 more responsive and the paddle shift depends on how you use them your drive can get quite exciting. Loose her on the highway 160km very rapidly attained and she keeps going 180km with ease. Sorry guys not everyone would do this and the six speed makes it so effortless. I agree technology is not that great though but the car is awesomely reliable. Rain sensitive wipers sort of go crazy sometimes and can be annoying because it doesn't know when to stop, so you might have to switch it off and use it manually in slight drizzle. The voice command is sort of stupid at times because it doesn't always easily recognize what you saying to it, so making a phone call hands free can become annoying at times. The windscreen sometimes in rainy weather becomes frosted in certain areas, no matter what you do, wash, wipe, ac/heater on glass it doesn't defrost. Complained about it but the dealership in trinidad 🇹🇹 does nothing, when they check everything it is always good so lots of people don't bother about their warranty and go outside to service. Overall don't get me wrong they are great cars and I love my SUV it is so comfortable to drive yet still it can dust alot of other vehicles out there.

  • I'm not someone who typically writes a comment but I had a vitara turbo in white for 2 weeks and another one in grey for 3 weeks while my car was in the repair shop and honestly I couldn't wait to get my vehicle back. The best thing about them is their good visibility and that they are zippy. Apart from that, the center screen is a distraction, there is something constantly, in colour, moving (Paul does a great job of showing you though them all but imagine that as you're driving along) and it's a real shame unless you leave it to a black screen, they could have done better. The interior and layout is not intuitive. The warning systems are quite the interruption to the point that they take your focus away from the road. The bluetooth system takes quite a long time to connect - don't think you will be connected in your driveway, you'll be up and running a few streets away. Forget calling people while you're in the car using the bluetooth system too, people can't hear you, I tried with numerous people and all of them complained in both of the vitaras I had. Along with the subpar fuel economy I was at the servo frequently and it takes 95. Honestly thought this was the biggest waste of money and the family has owned suzuki's previously.

  • I currently own a 2021 Vitara Turbo Allgrip, I have owned it for 9 months and has done 11000km on the odometer. Since hitting 2000km on the odometer it has developed a vibration throughout the floorboard and steering wheel. The engine feels like it came from a 20 year old car, the gearbox has a delay when changing gears. I took it to 2 Suzuki dealers and they both gave me 2 different excuses. One dealer charged me a $195 diagnosis drive fee, which should of been covered under warranty. It has been an ongoing back and forth with the dealers and Suzuki Australia. After sales service from Suzuki is appalling, I have had this problem for 6 months..

  • Great fun car Positives Fast for a small SUV and good overtaking on country roads. Torque is useful up hills Handling and ride decent Feels a lot more ‘fun’ than other SUVs I tested Reliable and controls are generic/easy to use Good storage/boot space Looks good in an old school way. Not at all like a small car on stilts Negatives The phone connectivity isn’t always reliable, can often be slow to connect or not at all

  • I have an SX4 Adventure and love it, it's 12 years old and wanting to update but sadly they don't make them any more, I'm quite short and the SX4 is just a bit smaller than the Vitara so suits me well. I'd really like a car size between Vitara and Ignis. The outdated interior look of the Vitara also turns me off, hopefully the next one will be better

    @ahh1180@ahh11802 жыл бұрын
    • The Kia! It’s better value for money and the tech is light years ahead. Just not a huge fan of the DCT.

      @CarExpertAus@CarExpertAus2 жыл бұрын
    • @@CarExpertAusmy wife loves it, the car that is, she wouldn't know what the dct is There is a lot to like about the Seltos, bang for buck wise but the dct shows Kia's immaturity in that part of the tech offering. In eco it's bad, way to docile and sport is to eager to run on, when i drive the car I find normal the best balance but even then it can come undone at slow speeds, especially on an incline. fwiw - Kia Roseville beat two other dealers as well as the car broker (carhelper) on price only issue 10 months on is a recurring (barely audible) clunk of the rear seat latch.

  • A good review, however the one you have there is not a top spec model, the model you have has a black pack added , thats not a good look on a car with that color, we have the same two tone color but ours has better wheels and some light chrome accents, we also have a full panoramic sunroof that goes in and over the roof almost going back the entire way. The fog lights can be swapped for LED but I do like the Halogen non projector Highbeam, the Normal low beam LED does a really good job at night and the rear tail lights are LED as well and have good presence at night. I would have liked rear vents and arm rests to be honest and softer door tops, other than that we did 30 000km in a year with the car, that is 3 services and its been amazing. Heavy on fuel for short trips but very light on long journeys

    @brianwoods2998@brianwoods29982 жыл бұрын
    • I’ve seen this on some Kias but necessary lights (brake/tail/reverse/indicator) do NOT belong on the bumper - they should be in the main cluster. It’s just plain dumb, and can be easily obscured. The only lights that are ok there are non essential ones like foglights or DRLs
