In this video, I build an entire off grid electrical system for a van using only a portable power station, a 12v fuse block, and an AC distribution panel. I did this build outside of the van on a work bench so that you can see and understand exactly how I do everything throughout this process. I am not an electrician. I'm just a self taught guy with a camera. This video is not intended to give you any advice, or tell you that this is the correct way of doing things. This video merely exists to show you how I personally choose to build my electrical systems.

  • Hello! Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I have a Bluetti AC500 system with two batteries that I bought to use in my skoolie build. We currently use it in winter to run our pellet stove during power outages in our house, but I want to be able to move the system to the bus when I go on the road. I have been thinking of wiring the bus without the ‘brains’ of the power system as a permanent part of the build but I only had a vague sense of what to do. This video is LITERALLY the missing link I needed. I really enjoy the creative thinking you bring to your videos. Thank you again, this is just what I needed!

  • Very detailed video, great job! FYI, the 10A cigarette port may be inadequate to handle the entire load of a van. Bluetti, EcoFlow, and Goal Zero have models with high output (30A) DC ports that use a more secure connection (Anderson or Aviation).

  • You really need to add rubber circular grommets in your roof cable holes to protect from chafing and electrical shorts/fires.. Like other vehicles, these should be added anytime you pass live wires through sheet metal or bulkheads. they can be added to current installation by making one cut and spiraling them into place.

Every video I've seen about electrical has involved hooking up batteries to chargers and inverters and all that stuff, and I'm perfectly happy with my little box that has all that stuff in one unit like your Anker. But I didn't have much info on how to connect it up to outlets and appliances around the van and this will be helpful

  • I wish these companies would start upping the DC output to 20a or so on these smaller power stations. I think Pecron is the only one that has done it with the E1500LFP which has 300-400w DC output.
