🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

  • As an indigenous Asian ethic myself, similiar to the Karen, I really enjoy these deep dives into these villages. I myself live in America my whole life, but have heard of all these other village and people. There are countless numbers of them through out alll south east Asia. I love that Sunny and his team go and show these people, that I've wondered where and how they live.

  • Sir Sonny, the question you asked her at last part of this episode hit me of the reality. Most of the Asian Countries, Country side provinces are experiencing near tradition extinction, this is very alarming, specially their tradition is the root of the country most but not all Asian Countries Government are doing or directly neglecting this fact. They keep on posting in the Social Media Platforms about the Government protecting them but in reality nothing is really happening. Sir Sonny I'm happy because you being one of the "top tier" food vlogger in the whole world noticed this problem. Because I know food is the best way to represent one's culture and tradition. I am hoping and praying that you continue with strength and safety your beautiful art of presenting cultures thru their food. More power sir Sonny!

    • If the younger generations don't want to continue the traditional way of life, there's nothing the government can't do about it. Culinary tradition basically will never die if the food tastes good. Anything else is up to the whole younger generation, if they don't want to keep it alive, it'll die no matter what the government does.

Sadly, many of them have been displaced to Thailand and neighbouring countries as their villages were relentlessly burned down and air-raided by the military junta forces especially after the military coupe in 2021. But they are strong, resilient and will never yield to the military junta. Salute to all the anti-military fighters out there.

  • God Bless you Sonny! I grew up spending my summers as a child in the Puerto Rican "campo" (the farming countryside) and it is beautiful to see, through your adventures, how much we all (humans) have in common. What is fundamental in our communities is using anything and everything available to feed our families...my older family members still eat lots of the chicken bones and larger animal bones get broken open for the marrow. (When technology fails, it is these people that will be the foundation of humanity's future.) I smile down to my soul when I see lechón asado (roasted pig) and "Cuerito" (crunchy pig skin) almost everywhere you go!

    • they are the K’nyaw tribe but colonizers didn’t know how to pronounce that, so colonizers went with the Karen(kə-REN)tribe. Even than, it’s still being mispronounced and associated w Karen. I feel like it’s ignorant and disrespectful to make fun of their tribe name.

  • Sonny. You have been going places so unique and special. Please continue to show the world how communities work together in harmony. These villages suffer from food insecurity as they rely on their own gardens and animals to feed themselves. I'm sure they have good and bad harvests and adjust accordingly to ensure everyone is fed.
