  • Brown hyenas look like ghosts. They literally look more intimidating than spotted hyenas. That fur on their back protects them while making them look bigger. The stripes on their legs are pure art! How creative god is! Respect your documentary! I learned so much about these creatures!

  • Hyenas are so fascinating and all 4 extant species are so different from each other in appearance, lifestyle, and overall sociability. It is so frustrating that most people think of all hyenas as low life scavengers who steal food from more noble animals such as lions, where in reality lions steal from hyenas (especially the spotted species crocuta crocuta) a lot more than the other way around. In fact, with spotted hyenas about 90% of their food comes from hunting and alongside African wild dogs, they have some of the most successful hunting rates of all the carnivores in Africa

  • Here is my story on brown hyenas. I have faced a brown hyena in a night time while I was herding 115 goats and coming from far distance. It was in the start of the dry season and going home. It was an hour before sunset and about 5KM away from home. It must trailed me so it gets closer to dark night as it can see better in the dark. It fought me for 3+ hours and it managed to would 19 goats because it was much faster and more agile than I. Goats wail/cry when something got them and I would sprint towards the cry and it will release the goat before much damage is done because it can see and hear me coming. Then, another in no time. Imagine this repeating many times in 3 hours in the dark and by yourself. When goats are under attack by a predator, they will scatter in all direction. This makes everything so hard because you have to be everywhere. Thank God this beast is a solitary predator. The spotted hyenas are easily scared even though it mostly operates in clan or not too far from each other. If you’re a goat/sheep herder, brown hyena is your worst nightmare, specially at night is worse time they can go after your herd of goats. Sometimes, brown hyena will ram you with its body without bitting you here and there. It’s all intimidation. Brown hyena is relentless and it will fight you like it wouldn’t survive without this meal. The veracity of this animal is unimaginable. When it goes after your herd and opportunity allows it to take dawn an animal from you, it will not stop taking down more until it neutralize nearly all of your animals. It typically bites back of the head/neck and its always fetal for the animal. I have seen 50 heads of goats 22 of them lay dispatched by it. It’s fast, it’s mean, it’s got strong jaws, its habitual greed is unmatched in the animal kingdom in my opinion. It’s an experience of a lifetime. If you want to be world famous, dare to try this and film it. The level of adrenaline rush you get will make you fight it better than you think. In our society, it’s no option if a beast takes down a member of your livestock. Our livestock are walking money in the bank under your care plus, we protect our animals because they sustain us and in return we do not abandon them. Oh, I must say, when goats wail or cry very loudly, it’s dinner bell to the rest of the predators big and small. No sleep for you in that area for few night. More predators will try you and your animals. Remember, if your dog can detect your confidence, what do you think it’s like out there in the bush and savanna? You better be on point with confidence. Confidence is thought at home from young age.
