    • I am sorry but is that supposed to make you sound intelligent because it doesn't. There are things you could have said that would have blown the argument this video makes out of the water; but you chose to state your dangerously unhealthy diet (studies published have shown 5 to be a recommended minimum, not a cap) and only use 1 comma where you should have used a semi colon. To that I say, really?

    • I voted Green today for the European Elections. I'll probably vote Labour in next year's General Election though as, let's face it, there's only one of the two main parties that's going to win in 2015. Anything but the Conservatives thanks.

    • Much better than being a Eurofanatic or Eurosceptic. I see the extremes as being on either side of the same coin and in Parliament they both voted against Ken Clarke's amendment to the final Leaving Bill which would have ensured we remained in the Customs Union.

  • Ha-ha! This is a very witty video. I think the actors did a brilliant job of portraying Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage. This short clip has been much more interesting than the LBC debates about an in/out referendum on Europe. I commend the Green Party on their originality and smart timing of this promotional feature. It certainly made me chuckle and check out their website.

I never even considered The Green Party because I never heard anything about them and wrongly assumed it was all about cycling everywhere etc; then I saw this video. Having now done my research, I can't understand how they aren't running the country, they're the only party that is genuinely interested in working for the people, not making the people work for them. They want to renationalise services for one thing, which means we would all pay less for them, and guess what, any profit they make goes back into the country!

  • The more I have researched The Green Party the more impressed I become. I had all but lost hope in politics due to the rhetoric nonsense constantly spouted combined with the corporate backing of parties and how it makes them biased when bringing in changes. Seeing as the UK doesn't seem to get the idea of a revolution to bring around massive reform and then a vote for Green seems the alternative option. Don't waste a vote, use your vote... A tick next to Green is a tick for reform in a nation full of despair and depravity.

  • Everyone see's oil rich countries like Qatar and wants to be like them. When the wells run dry Qatar will collapse and die overnight. They are get-rich-quick schemes and are not sustainable. If we follow suit and carry on building systems based on finite energy dependency, future generations will suffer as we will have selfishly reaped all the benefits. It's worrying how many people seem quite happy ignoring this fact. There is no bigger issue than energy, it dictates the wealth, poverty, life and death of our children. It needs to be sustainable and we have to start now.

  • I voted for Plaid Cymru as a result of seeing this broadcast. Green Party members and voters were urged to vote Plaid Cymru as Jill Evans was in danger of losing her seat. I had intended to vote Labour that time but at the last minute decided to vote Plaid Cymru. In 2016 I voted Remain but I am a soft remainer who was involved with Another Europe is Possible. Being a socialist I didn't feel entirely comfortable helping Wales Stronger in Europe in the run up to the referendum and then the People's Vote to try and stop Brexit. In 2019 I voted Labour in both the European and General Elections. It was tough going on the doorstep as most people seemed to be virulently pro Brexit, virulently anti Brexit or didn't know much about it and saw Labour as being too wishy washy on Brexit.

    • The policy is that they will actually build houses instead of vastly inflating the price of houses making them even more unaffordable for the next generation

      @ryancoley457@ryancoley45710 жыл бұрын
    • LVT is a progressive eco-tax that will force down house prices, force more efficient use of urban land and negate the need for urban sprawl. It will bring an end to buy to let and make it a renter's market. Also, economic policies to make the economy more distributed, not London-centric like the right-wingers love so much. Things like affordable/available housing are not achieved with any one policy but a whole raft of policy changes.

      @Lommyism@Lommyism10 жыл бұрын
    • There are half a million empty homes right now which the Govt is taking no steps to bring into use: instead, it feeds the demands of its friends in the construction industry to build on green belt. We can and should revamp/ retrofit existing buildings for domestic use. Greens want to do this; all the others want to leave homelessness to the "magic" of the market.

    @Theunofficialchanel@Theunofficialchanel10 жыл бұрын
    • Neither are the Greens Sarah - the EU needs to become focussed on people and communities' needs rather than big business profits. Thats why we have worked on improving workers' rights and consumer protection. The European Parliament needs to be given more say over the bureaucrats as well so that it can become more democratic: at the moment, the MEPs are pretty powerless. Greens want a referendum for a new, social Europe - if we can't get that, we'd be likely to take the view it is time to leave. But UKIP worry me because they just want to leave now but then sign up to free trade deals with the EU, USA and Russia which benefit big business but leave ordinary people at the mercy of multinational companies.

      @ViridisLumen1689@ViridisLumen168910 жыл бұрын
  • I agree with much of the Green manifesto but (and I say this as just a middle income earner) what makes you think it's either morally acceptable or good business sense to cap the earning potential of highly paid private sector workers? First of all the Govts place is to increase earnings not decrease them, the idea of a cap on bonuses is ludicrous to me. Second, why cut off your nose to spite your face by reducing the level of tax the Govt can bring in from the bankers?

    @robertjones4201@robertjones420110 жыл бұрын

  • Do we really want to be dependent on Russian energy in the UK, or on the inefficient wind turbines that are blighting our landscape and making landowners vast sums of money whilst at the same time pushing the less well off into fuel poverty? Fracking would create jobs, reduce costs, and make us more energy self-sufficient. It's a win-win situation, despite the exaggerated claims of those on the left. It's Greens and those like them who are helping push up energy prices, forcing people into a "heat or eat" situation and making our businesses less competitive. With them it's dogma first and people second, so UKIP for me too. Now what else is green? Oh yes - cabbages.

    @dunholm1@dunholm110 жыл бұрын
    • Fracking would blight our landscape, but renewables would create jobs, reduce costs due to the fact that the cost of renewables is coming down, and fossil fuels are becoming more expensive. They are a limited resource, that would be sold at EU prices. Plus fuel poverty is not caused by wind turbines, it is caused by criminal austerity measures, and a privatised energy market, whereby taxpayers' money goes towards private profit. Plus, we are creating illegal levels of pollution as it is. I'd like to see how efficient fraking remains when the gas starts to run out, more and more drilling rigs are built and the public are left to pay for the cleanup after private companies cut and run, and people are made redundant. Renewable jobs are jobs to build a life on.

      @Lommyism@Lommyism10 жыл бұрын
    • Lommyism You know as well as I do that turbines are heavily subsidised by the taxpayer, and that isn't likely to change much in the foreseeable future. Further, we'd have to cover the entire country to produce any meaningful amounts of energy. And "green" taxes hit hardest those on low incomes, such as pensioners. During the winter of 2012-2013 some 33,000 people, mainly pensioners died of cold-related illnesses in the UK because they had been forced into a "heat or eat" situation. This is a fkn national disgrace, compounded by the fact that "green" policies only exacerbated the problem. Fracking has hugely benefited both the American and Australian economies and their consumers. The arguments put forward by the "anti-everything" campaigners have been rebutted and in several cases found to be utterly false. The solution used is 98.5% water, and the chemical element is only 0.5%. If we are to ban things because of this level of "pollution" we should be banning leisure car trips, or intercontinental holiday flights, for example. We all want less pollution, but an element of common-sense and reality have to enter the equation.

      @dunholm1@dunholm110 жыл бұрын
    • dunholm1 Maybe you're confusing the tories' green deal with actual Green party policies, who would put an end to austerity and protect the most vulnerable in society. Plus we are investing in renewable energy for good reason as I have said costs are coming down, fossil fuels are becoming more scarce. We are also behind nearly every other european country on renewables. Plus the economic argument for fracking doesn't hold up as it won't save anyone any money. Not all wind will be onshore. The UK is a world leader in offshore wind, and produces more electricity than the rest of the world combined. By 2020 20% of the UK's electricity will be from offshore wind alone, 32% total for all renewables. Dogger Bank is one of the largest energy projects in the world and will help secure Britain's energy for the future. We're seeing a major push for offshore wind perhaps much bigger than people realise. We're well over 15% energy from renewables now and that was a year ago. Whether you like it or not renewable energy is coming.

      @Lommyism@Lommyism10 жыл бұрын
    • So you'd rather a fracking pad, drilling rig, compressor stations, miles of pipelines for gas transportation, 100's of trucks everyday to each pad and flaring. Not to mention there is no rules saying how close a well can come up to someone's house. You go for it making wind turbines sound worse. Fantastic. Oh and the idea of relying on approx inch think cement sealant inside the well casing to protect groundwater for upwards of 30 years is genius. If we all tap in renewable we get energy back ourselves as well as feeding back into the grid.. On the other hand do we have mineral rights.. nope. So no profit.. but maybe a potential £100 compensation for any damage. So do we benefit from fracking profits.. no. The community might get the £100,000 incentive payout. Nice little earner so the football pitch to be built next to the well pad. BUT wait wait wait.. what if the EU says we have to export our own gas to Europe? Oh dear.. Erm.. sorry guys. Maybe next time. The 'jobs' everyone mentions for fracking would be skilled jobs.. I hardly think many of the workforce in the UK would be able to meet the unique skills required, and it could be imported labour. Poland's double downing of fracking hasn't yielded much so far. China might be up to it in a decade or so. (BBC article, not just 'theories') Even if we go all out, the technically & economically recoverable amount of gas could be a far cry from the '50 years' we've been promised. II your near to any proposed wells I'll pop round and agree that fracking pads were a much better view than those dirty wind turbines. Time will tell.

    • Renewable energy is just as capable of creating jobs and stimulating economic activity. It is also a good method for allowing the U.K to become a net exporter of Energy. There are plenty of jobs associated with renewable energy, but it's just not as profitable as fracking and thus the government aren't all over it.

    • Josh Leal Seriously, based on current technology what % of overall energy would Solar Power produce for the UK? And at what cost? It would be cheaper and cleaner to build a couple of the new modular designed nuke-power plants to reduce coal and oil based power production.

  • That was a very well produced video. Where do the Green Party get enough money from to make something as good as that, given how few members they have? I can't imagine. Should there be a shouting match about our membership of the EU? Well, it's not very nice but it's better than shooting each other. It's also a great deal better than allowing the EU to walk all over us. Doing things 'for the common good' generally means coming to a compromise that pleases nobody. Much of what it does certainly doesn't please the British people (as opposed to the British political elite both in the UK and in Brussels). Britain has no power in the EU. It has only 8% of the votes and can always be beaten in any vote. Those who pretend that we have 'clout', as Nick Clegg puts it, are lying. Even if the British MEPs did have clout, that doesn't mean that they would do what was best for Britain anyway. Most of them are completely committed to the European project and would vote against Britain's interests a lot of the time regardless. The Green Party is a completely useless organisation. I can't decide if they are simply extremely naive or if they are positively evil.

  • What we do not need though is actions for the sake of action there are changes that could be beneficial but many governments make changes for the sake of making changes witch can often be damaging when you get projects being cut near completion or poorly thought out desertions being made so governments and leaders can look like there doing something. governments lose my support when there unbeificale changes are made just as they gain it when they are and I know labor libdem and coservative talk a lot of shit to sound persuasive useing loots of describing words and taking twice as long to explain what they think the moves there after will do.

    • Edward Jones Facism seeks domination over private owners not state control. Libertarianism does not protect the most vulnerable in society, something most people with any sense would not vote for. As if neoliberalism wasn't bad enough...

      @Lommyism@Lommyism10 жыл бұрын
    • Who is to protect the vulnerable? Surely, allowing only voluntary organisations and individuals to do so will allow those who genuinely care to be in that position. People need protection FROM government, so I cannot believe you are suggesting that government is the one to protect the vulnerable.

      @5to22a@5to22a10 жыл бұрын
    • Edward Jones Facism isn't 'big' state, but powerful state. It is usually marked by a strong feeling of patriotism or nationalism, emotional appeals to a proud history or mythology (usually one that never was), and an emphasis on social hierarchies and putting people in their place. UKIP seems to manage at least two of those.

  • According to this video you shouldn't publicly debate the EU, putting the best argument forward? :s The Green party is NOT 'the happy middle', they were committed to the status quo as much as the Lib Dems, they just had no one strong enough to put the debate forward without getting absolutely destroyed by Nigel Farage (not a fan of Nick Clegg's policies but I have respect for him for challenging Nigel to a debate).
